  • "This cottage was perfect in every way."

The owner Sue had thought of everything and more. A bottle of bubbly amongst other goodies on arrival, spotlessly clean, cosy we could live here! Just brililant, probably the best - of may good ones - that we have enjoyed with Sykes.

  • "We were very pleased with the cottage in all areas, inside and out and in particular with the small gifts left by the owner."

Wonderful. We would have no hesitation in returning.

  • "Beautiful cosy cottage which is well located in a quiet village."

York, Whitby and Scarborough are all an easy drive away. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. We will happily go back there!

  • "We have stayed at this property twice in the past with absolutely no problems."

This time on arrival, we thought the cleaners were still in as the vacuum cleaner was on it's side at the foot of the stairs with the lead trailing around the room and rubbish left on the downstairs windowsill. However they weren't and it had just been left. There were cobwebs in the downstairs toilet and the toilet brushes were filthy. Several of the cups were dirty. There was no TV reception as the local mast was down. There was an extremely unpleasant smell from the drains when any water was put down the kitchen sink. I spoke to the owner about this and on the Thursday a plumber came out and unblocked the drains. Regarding the lack of TV reception, the owner was aware of this and advised us to buy some DVDs from a charity shop. I replied that if we had been informed of this in advance we could have made alternative arrangements e.g brought a laptop. Not very satisfactory.

A couple of small things: (1) No instructions on how to use the thermostat (2) Instructions about when to put out bins were not clear - we put out the recycling and garden waste bins on the stated days but they were not collected (possibly because it was a fortnightly collection)

  • "It was the most amazing cottage we had ever stayed at."

Everything was perfect apart from not recognising the actual cottage compared to the photo. This was due to the fact that the photo was a picture of the front and the one we actually saw was the garden side from the back. After riding up and down the street 4 times we found it, but no complaints. I will certainly be looking for another holiday with Sykes.

  • "Property listing states washer/dryer on the itinerary but property only has washing machine, no tumble dryer, otherwise a very clean well presented property with a lovely patio and garden."

Very good value for money and we will definitely stay again at Howe Green Cottage as it is a great base for touring the North Yorkshire Moors, the East Coast and York.

Warm and inviting, this delightful, period property is ideal for a couple and has been lovingly decorated and furnished to retain many original features, including exposed, beamed ceilings and a beautiful Victorian fireplace in the sitting room.

The property also offers a large, well-established garden, ideal for relaxing and dining alfresco.

The town itself boasts excellent pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and craft shops, and the weekly market is well worth a visit.

With National Parkland, the Heritage Coast and historic York all within easy driving distance, this great property has plenty to offer.
