  • "I've already left feedback saying how dissatisfied I was with stay needs lots of attention to several areas"

Thank you for leaving feedback. I visited the house after you left to review the state of the mattress in question. Although we have never had a bad review about this before, we have now taken on board your feedback and added mattress toppers to avoid any further discomfort. We apologise for any lack of sleep that may have been caused as a result of this. Property Owner

Overall very disappointed had I been able to have a good night's sleep would have compensated for many faults the mattress in en-suite is in dire need of replacing the springs dig into body it was so uncomfortable my options were to return home go to Premier inn which neither were really viable given time of year so only option available was to purchase a mattress topper which helped a little but certainly did not cure the problem as could still feel springs

Please accept my apologies Mrs Clark. The mattress is only 18 months old and it is the first time that I have heard about the springs! I will check it myself in the next few days and once again - sorry about your experience. Stephen Property Owner

  • "The property was in a great location for visiting the city centre and a good size for two guests."

There is only one two seater settee so four guests would not be comfortable. The carpet is worn, the sink tap has a drip, and the toilet in the en suite has a wonky seat. None of this spoiled our two-night trip but does need fixing as I am sure it would be annoying on a longer stay. When we arrived it hadn’t been cleaned, but we contacted the owner who sorted this immediately and gave us a late check out by way of an apology. We were happy with this. Be aware that the location is very close to student apartments which makes for some noise from the street. Again, this didn’t spoil our stay but might stop some from getting a good nights sleep.

  • "Property is in a great location a short walk to the city center and very close to a great selection of restaurants."

As mentioned in other reviews the property would benefit from some minor maintenance, nethertheless we enjoyed our stay and would use again if we come to York again.

  • "While the location was ideal the accommodation lacked any sparkle."

There was no welcome pack so had to work out bin routines and stripped the beds on departure, carpets are worn out, laminate flooring worn, especially in the kitchen, mattress in the 2nd bedroom dirty, many taps dripping and pans are rusty and need changing, hurray for restaurants and the air fryer. Many of these comments have been mentioned previously and while there was evidence of new decorating and the new dishwasher arrived on our first day the property was simply tired. Again great location but we left a day early as a consequence of the property.

Hi Lisa, I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay, especially as I've had really positive feedback recently. I checked with the installers of the dishwasher and it turns out that you arrived early - they had finished by 2.30 pm. Plumbers checked the taps and told me they were fine but I'll recheck myself. I accept what you say about the carpets - they are next on the list ! Stephen Property Owner

  • "We stayed in this property in May 2023."

On a positive side the property is in an ideal position and is within easy walking distance from the centre of York, with the bonus of a garage to park your car, However contrary to the owners response to previous reviews there are still problems with the main door lock. On one occasion we were locked in as the key was just turning in the barrel without unlocking door which would be very dangerous in the event of a fire. The property has not been decorated and is still grubby in the hall and landing area. The carpets are thin and worn through in places and the dishwasher has still not been replaced. As another reviewer stated it would not take much to turn this apartment into a first class holiday let.

  • "Lovely stay walking distance to city centre."

Difficulty with the code on gate. Could do with 2 settees or L shapped settee to seat 4 people. Would definitely recommend people to stay there as we enjoyed it

Thank you for your comments. I appreciate it. I'll look again at the layout of the lounge and try and get another seat in ! Property Owner

Initially the gate remote wasn't fully functioning but he ensured asap all was well. The property is ideally located and we enjoyed our time there. Even after we left the owner called us to check we had a lovely time which we did. I will book again for summer 2023

  • "On the positive side the property is in a brilliant location and free parking is a huge plus in York."

However as previous guests have stated the apartment is quite run down. Carpets were worn and dirty, microwave and dishwasher didn't work, oven control markings are worn off. The saucepans were dirty and the frying pan unusable. We at out every night as a consequence which was enjoyable but a lot more expensive than anticipated. It's a shame because it wouldn't cost a lot to fix this place up and make it a premium property.

Sadly the house was seriously damaged by the previous holiday makers and although it was thoroughly cleaned, I was unable to arrange a decorator for several weeks. The house has been redecorated, the interior door handles replaced, and the front door lock changed. I have put in a new microwave and an air fryer and although the dishwasher works if you put the detergent in by hand, it will be replaced shortly. The pans should have been cleaned in any event and I can only apologise for this. Property Owner

  • "NOTE: None of our feedback is related to whoever does the cleaning."

They have clearly done their best with what was available. The property is very well placed for exploring York and the garage was a bonus. Initial entry to site was OK. however, the front door lock is very worn and needs very careful fiddling about to open it. Carpets to stairs and landing are stained and dirty - not through lack of hoovering. Bedroom carpets are paper-thin and dirty or stained around the skirtings. The "gleaming" bathroom has a non-working extractor fan and, though clean, is extremely tired. Could use a new toilet seat. Bath cold tap leaks at base and bath plug chain is broken. Toilet cistern leaks into bowl intermittently. A sad room. The living area has some pretty but impractical pieces, like the glass topped coffee table with a single, off-centre mounting to the base. Decent TV but broken blinds on the adjacent window. In the kitchen area, the oven control temperature markings have disappeared with time and the oven interior wasn't clean and neither was the cooker hood inside the hinged panel. Various items of crockery and cutlery had stains or bits of stuff still stuck in them; no doubt due to the malfunctioning of the dishwasher: the dishwasher tablet door does not open during the wash cycle, so all the contents get is a hot rinse. The microwave functioned for less than 3 minutes on full power, until the thermal cut-out actuated. Using a much lower power setting it could run for maybe 12 minutes, fit only for thawing frozen foods. The bedrooms were both very bare, no mirrors, no chairs, no mattress protectors. One of the two cheap portable hanging rails was broken. The ensuite shower-room was tired and well-used. The shower functioned well. The door handles on the lounge and main bedroom doors need replacing with ones that work - and why on earth are the lounge and 2nd bedroom doors fitted with hefty self-closing mechanisms? There are also several marks and/or holes in walls where previous damage has not been rectified. In short, far from being "presented to a wonderful standard", the whole place felt sad and unloved, and in need of a serious refurbishment. We were very disappointed, but we'll leave it to you as to whether you publish this feedback, or not, but please make sure the owner gets the message,

Sadly the house was seriously damaged by the previous holiday makers and although it was thoroughly cleaned, I was unable to arrange a decorator for several weeks. The house has been redecorated, the interior door handles replaced, and the front door lock changed. The extractor fan does work perfectly but here is an on/off over ride switch above the door which someone must have turned off. Whilst I agree with your comments about the self closing door they are a fire regulation requirement. I can only apologise for the house feeling sad and unloved - but it looks great now Property Owner

  • "Close to city wall with tight garage parking for small to moderate sized car."

Quite noisy with traffic from nearby road junction. Apartment is small with sofa seating for maximum 3 adults, dining chairs for 4. Good TV and shower but sparsely equipped kitchen. Oven temperature setting markings have been rubbed off through time making oven use a bit of a lottery. No provision of basic items such as teapot and hair dryer. Pedestrian entry to mews via keypad gate and vehicle entry using keyfob. On arrival keyfob did not work and had to be replaced; incorrect code for pedestrian gate on welcome email. Door entry to flat with key difficult ...something amiss with lock. Presentation of flat generally poor in places with broken door handles, dirty and marked paintwork. Bathroom shelves and WC seat well worn. Could do with redecoration.
