We really enjoyed the super spacious kitchen/dining room, which was fitted with an amazing Aga. Using this our food was cooked to perfection (Courtesy of our amazing daughter in law) The cottage was clean and smelt gorgeous! If we could have one thing to make it perfect, it would be a larger screen tv. Our hosts were great, would definitely love to return.

We were met with a very warm welcome including a beautiful homemeade cake which we had with tea out in the patio courtyard watching the swallows swoop around - a lovely way to relax after a long drive from North of Scotland. The house had everything we needed and is decorated and furnished to a high standard including fully functional AGA cooker. Our dog was made very welcome too. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in nearby Sedgefield so no danger of running out of food or supplies. The access off the main road is a little tricky but we got the hang of it eventually. Many thanks to William and Nikki for their welcome and hospitality.

The only thing is the aga in the kitchen makes the kitchen area very hot but leaving the back door open helped. Also using the aga was a novelty to us as we have never cooked on one before but easy to use after William showed us how when we arrived. We liked how the bedrooms were spread out giving everyone their own space, the beds could be a bit bigger but understand that there wouldn't be so much room around the bedrooms if bigger beds were put in. That was just our preference. I think possibly a curtain across the front door and windows might be nice as the first bathroom opens directly facing them - so coming out the bathroom after a shower in the morning was always a quick dash across. Nicky and William, we're always around to ask anything and were very friendly hosts. We had a cake on arrival which was a really nice touch, also the cottage smelled lovely. We will definitely be back to stay. Thanks for having us.

Nikki and William were very welcoming. The accommodation is spotless, comfortable, and excellently appointed. We had six people staying, and many other family members visiting. The Byre fitted us all with ease. We self-catered - the kitchen was more than up to the task of our food preparation. The new giant Fridge/Freezer could have held enough for a week if we had been there that long. Outside there is a large area where we played games (including an Easter egg hunt with the children) and basked in the sun (yes, in April!) The Byre is highly recommended. Even though we were only 15 mins away from home it felt like we were miles away on holiday the Brye was surrounded by fields with a lovely walk right on the doorstep perfect for walking the dog we didn't meet a soul, but close enough for local amenities. Owners are next door and what lovely people they are milk bread and butter stocked ready for our last minute booking and there if we needed them, cant fault this place. The Byre is situated in a nice rural setting, but very accessible by car. We liked being able to enjoy walks directly from the property and within a short drive. The huge kitchen with its lovely warm aga was our favourite spot for family time. My daughter was in her element cooking for the first time on an aga. The kitchen is a joy…so much space!…and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The Aga was a real treat to cook on. The owners provided a very warm welcome with basics like milk/bread etc already in the property and a fresh home baked cake that was absolutely delicious. There are large supermarkets about 5 minutes away in both directions and it’s an easy drive to the coast or up into the Dales. There are walks out from the property too but I would suggest an OS Map is useful to pin down a circular route. All in all it is the perfect oasis, full of the comforts of home but surrounded by beautiful countryside.

  • "The Byre was a lovely cottage, as in the countryside and next to a farm you will expect flies, daddy long legs, if harvesting dust also ( farm land, no issues there for us) Kitchen was great no issue with the Aga being on as kept it warm, kitchen door maybe better as stable door as can half open it then ( lounge door closed with windows open so nice and cool when in there ) We had great weather so we were out everyday as 4 of us and 2 dogs, plenty of places to go and visit."

Only downside was Hoover was rubbish and didn’t pick up so a better one really is needed, big fridge/ freezer in the kitchen would be benefit ( a wall unit is there but not being used so that could be a fridge/freezer in there as make things more easier for people staying and can keep it stocked up. Our shower over bath wasn’t brilliant and glass shower screen could do with sorting, just a few places of wear and tear in the property, but it’s to be expected. The drive way is a nightmare and not great for the cars coming up to the cottage, that could be sorted to make better to be honest as not good for your car, also a better parking instead of the field ( tarmac area) Nice to be left a cake which was lovely, flowers too, which is a nice touch too

  • "This property has an Aga which being constantly hot made the property unbearably hot (29degrees in the kitchen)."

Also,on arrival, the owner told us that one bedroom door was closed to prevent 'the flies' getting in and renters complaining about the fly dirt. He didn't mention that opening the windows to try and dissipate sone of the heat would end in us being beseiged by daddy-long-legs (12 in the hall alone on our first morning) so we couldn't open the windows for the rest of our stay. The owner was also intrusive, walking past our floor to ceiling windows 4/5 times daily when he could get everywhere on his property without doing so. I felt we had no expectation of privacy. I was also really unhappy that his Border Terrier, running loose, bit my dog who was on her lead. And as for the driveway - parlous condition. I am conscious that some renters might not be offended by the issues which upset me but I offer my experience in case they do.
