“A beautiful, clean, well equipped little cottage and a warm, friendly Yorkshire welcome; we arrived to a tea tray set with delicious home baking.”

The village, like the cottage, is immaculate and the pub serves great food and a range of beers and wines in a traditional, homely environment. There are numerous walks around the area, for every ability and it’s not far to the coast to visit Whitby. Heather, the owner, is cheerful and friendly and we felt that nothing would have been too much trouble if we’d asked, but we didn’t have to because it was already perfect! We highly recommend this cottage; a home from home and a haven of calm ...

The property

A very pretty stone and pantiled semi-detached cottage, created from the conversion of a former granary building on the owner's family-run livestock and arable farm, set in the heart of the picturesque village of Levisham.

Converted to a high standard and with a cosy and welcoming feel, this lovely, well laid out cottage offers superb open-plan accommodation, and is tastefully decorated and furnished, with shared use of a lovely large walled garden.

This is an ideal base for exploring the coast and North York Moors, as well as the maze of footpaths in the surrounding hills and valleys.

About the location

LEVISHAM

Pickering 6 miles; Whitby 17 miles; York 32 miles.

The tiny, picturesque village of Levisham sits high on the Yorkshire Moors, to the north of Pickering. The village is made up of a cluster of farms, attractive neat stone cottages with pretty gardens, and a village green. There is a pub and church in the village, with further amenities in Pickering. Levisham Beck, which rises in the nearby Hole of Horcum (where the devil is said to have fallen to earth) flows along a steep wooded valley near the village, and at its foot there is a water mill and small waterfall. The area is a maze of tracks and footpaths with some stunning scenery. The nearby Levisham station (in Newtondale) is a stopping point on the North York Moors Steam Railway, beyond which lies Cropton Forest. The area is conveniently located for visiting castles, and historic houses, touring moorland villages and exploring the many fishing communities along the coast, including popular Whitby.
