I was very lucky with the area of Pocklington in Yorkshire, as I didnt research it . I was very busy around the time I was due to go on the holiday and was unable to commit to the whole 7 days, only taking in Wednesday till Saturday. I had to contact Sykes twice before I went to check up on my details and explain the fact that I would not be able to go on the specified date, and therefore asked them to notify the key holder, which they did. They also supplied me with their telephone number which was invaluable on the date I arrived as although I had a sat nav. and the post code, it just took me to near the property. There were other adjoining properties in the area - so as it was dark when I got there around 8pm it was difficult to locate the property straight away. However, after contacting the owner - she kindly came down to meet me. My suggestion would be a small sign near the entrance to the telephone box, directing to the barn - which would be helpful. The property was lovely and spotlessly clean. The owner had the heating on the temperature 24/7, which we really appreciated as it was kept warm with it being February. My friend visited me and I picked her up in York - we had a lovely day there. Then as she stayed a couple of days we went to Bridlington a fishing port near by. That was good too. I did take out insurance, but it would have been nice if I could have had a refund of the days not used - due to circumstances. But, that was difficult to plan for - and it all worked out in the end. Overall, my experience and that of my friend was that we were not disappointed.. and we would definately return. Glad I tried Sykes, Thank you.

There are several world famous attractions nearby - majestic Castle Howard, beautiful Sledmere House, and of course the historic city of York. The town boasts a leisure centre offering a wide range of sports, including swimming, a Civic Centre and the Pocklington Arts Centre, which shows various films and stages live shows throughout the year. Pocklington is also home to Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, known worldwide for its meditation courses and retreats, plus the KP Golf Club is situated approx. 1 mile away and offers wedding and other event facilities, a stylish bar and a restaurant, as well as an 18 hole championship golf course. Just a few miles away is the village of Warter, which is where David Hockney produced his 'Bigger Trees Near Warter' painting. Nearby are various cycle ways including the North Sea Cycle Route and walkers will love either the long distance walks along the Wolds Way or one of the many more circular walks in the area for all abilities. For those who enjoy touring by car, Pocklington forms part of the Pocklington Round, a lovely scenic drive which takes in some of the area’s prettiest villages.
