  • "Absolutely wonderful stay at Gormire Cottage."

The cottage is beautifully furnished and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. The setting of the cottage was fantastic and we enjoyed being surrounded by nature and lovely walks straight from the door. We would definitely come back again as this is the best cottage we have ever stayed in.

  • "We had a fabulous time at Gormire Cottage."

It was warm and welcoming and decorated beautifully for Christmas. The cottage is well equipped with everything we could have needed, we enjoyed cosy nights in with the log burner, the pool table was a bonus! York is magical at Christmas and super easy using the park and ride. Thank you for a wonderful holiday, we will definitely be back.

I could have quite easily stayed in the cottage for the duration of my break. It made for a perfect “home from home”. Can’t fault it!

  • "One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in."

The listing underplays how large it is, and doesn’t mention the washing machine. Very clean with well equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting room. We were slightly thrown by the bathroom sink plug lever which was hidden behind the tap, but figured it out. Personally we don’t like plug in air freshener but it was the work of moments to turn them off at the wall. As close to perfect as a holiday cottage can be, and we have stayed in many.

Great communal large sitting room and kitchen and comfy beds. Great location and a good garden and you can walk from the property straight into the country side and up to Sutton bank.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. I am so pleased you had a lovely week and I was sad not to have caught you as you were leaving. Natasha Property Owner

The only thing that is in need of consideration is getting to the property there was some confusion about exactly how to get there being the exact place for turning off the road to go to the cottage the problem being defining of what the private road consisted of we eventually needed to make contact with the owner to clarify the route

It's clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished. Although it sits amongst a number of other holiday lets on the owner's farm, it's very quiet and you are allowed to enjoy your holiday undisturbed. The owners are on hand to deal with any problems should they occur. We loved to hear the owl on moonlit nights! We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Gormire cottage.

  • "This was an ideal holiday cottage for us."

It is a wonderfully relaxing place to rest after a day out sightseeing, with pretty much every detail of what a holiday-maker might need having been considered. The quirky layout, with separate stairways to the two upstairs bedrooms, just added to the charm. It's set in lovely countryside, and although there are no views taking advantage of this from the cottage itself, lovely open fields are literally yards from your door. We also found lots of interesting places to go within easy driving distance. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property. It would be especially good if you had friends renting the adjacent cottage, as the garden is shared, but it was absolutely fine even without this.

Thank you very much for your lovely feedback! Gormire Cottage is indeed great for two couples sharing. I hope to see you again! Best wishes Natasha Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage and very comfortable indeed."

Enjoyed staying there. However, there are a few things which made us mark down the property unfortunately and they are as follows : 1. No milk provided on arrival - I know this is not a given, but it is always a very welcome gesture, especially when you have had a long journey (which we did) and a cup of tea is what you desire !! 2. Cutlery - a good proportion of the cutlery had to be hand washed before using due to being very unclean/dirty. Perhaps they had been placed in an over-full dishwasher the night before and put away without being checked. Not the best thing to find, especially after the pandemic ! 3. Fridge Door - We were disappointed to find that the fridge was rather small, but also it was lacking a shelf at the bottom of the door in order to stand milk in. We therefore had to buy lots of one pint cartons instead, which obviously took up a lot of room and is more expensive ! We did note in the Visitors Book that other people had commented on this also. 4. Bin - The bin supplied in the kitchen was lovely and big, however, the foot pedal was visibly broken and could not be used. Therefore each time you had to lift up the lid with your hand. Again, not ideal for hygiene and cleanliness. A replacement bin could have been easily sourced by the owners. Overall, a lovely cottage in a super location, however, the above points did spoil it somewhat, especially bearing in mind the cost of renting the cottage for the week !! Your comments in return would be welcomed. Many thanks Jeremy Wallis and Lindsay Barker

Hello Jeremy & Lindsay. I an very pleased you had a great stay overall. Your 1st point was the milk. So we used to provide milk, tea bags, sugar etc but we found that most people left it, and one lady got very upset as she was vegan. I find that a lot of people do their shop on the way up here. 2nd was the Cutlery. I am so sorry about that, it is on my check list as we usually drop all cutlery into a bot of boiling water. I will not forget again. The fridge. I am aware the fridge is inadequate. If you’d have looked in the large cudboard next it you’d have found a larger fridge! Yes the bin was broken last week, i have not had chance to go to Northallerton to replace it. I will go this week. Thank you for your feedback. Natasha Property Owner

Walks from the door, bluebells outside the window. Tiny issue with missing blind but it is in hand. Patio is crying out for a hot tub (never thought I’d hear myself say that!!( ) wish we could have stayed longer.

  • "Gormire cottage is delightful."

The location is perfect for exploring and walking. Its super quiet and restful with beautiful surroundings. The cottage has everything needed for a very comfortable stay, including a washing machine which isnt listed but is present. The garden /patio is south facing so we could enjoy the early summer sun. On clear nights we enjoyed star gazing. It is bigger than the photos make the cottage look which was a nice surprize Only one comment, the bathroom does need a lick of paint as its badly water marked, and whilst the cottage is immaculately clean, the bathroom looks a bit grubby. I would definitely stay again.

Thank you very much for that honest review. I have booked our decorator friend for this friday due to your feedback. I am so pleased you enjoyed the cottage and look forward to welcoming you back! Natasha Property Owner

  • "A fantastic holiday cottage- Beautifully decorated with all amenities and in an ideal location to explore the local North Yorkshire sights- beautiful walks on your doorstep, an hour drive from the Seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough and similar distance to York."

We also did a fantastic mountain bike ride at Sutton Bank (5 min drive), hiring bikes from Sutton Bank bike hire. Multiple Supermarkets in Thirsk are only a 10 min drive away made shopping for food very easy. The house itself offers very comfortable accommodation. A fully equipped kitchen (with 2 small fridges, a washer/dryer, microwave etc). The beds were very comfortable with TVs in each bedroom. The 2 bedrooms are in different sides of the house, accessed by different staircases, however, which may be more problematic for younger families. There is a small games room with pool table which was very exciting for the children. The garden is very well maintained and shared with Woodside Barn, which was absolutely ideal for our joint family holiday with my sister’s family. I would wholeheartedly recommend Gormire cottage to others and would love to return in the future.

Lots of lovely little touches, and Prosecco on arrival. The mini pool table in another space (not photographed) kept the kids entertained, and there are plenty of beautiful walks from the farm and trips out to gorgeous Saltburn beach, Fountains Abbey, York, Alpamare Water Park... • "The cottage was amazing!"

When we entered it was clean, comfy, smelled lovely and had all* the facilities you could want. The little touches of biscuits and prosecco helped make the difference, even though we didn't use them. The only let down to such a beautiful place is the *fridge and the storage space for your food. It's so small you cannot get in a shop to cover your stay. You have to go out everyday to get fresh food. There was no where to put your own food. We cleared a drawer to put some of it in. Other than that, a stay to remember. So happy and will go back again. Thank you.

This break is just what was needed on a wintery yorkshire getaway. Fire, cosy sofa, beautiful crisp walks and wine. Due to Covid restrictions, we weren't able to be greeted and shown around on arrival, however christmas songs on the radio, decorated beautifully and a cheeky wine freebie was much appreciated. Take a good book and whack a log in the fire. Job done. I really think you'll struggle to find somewhere better.
