  • "A fabulous property."

Spotlessly clean. Lovely large thick towels. Very well equipped including a washing machine and drier which were much appreciated when we came in muddy after walking legs of the Cleveland way. The cottage was lovely and warm so we did not use the wood burner but it was all set up ready. The little touches, fresh flowers, eggs, chilled prosecco were wonderful, I would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

  • "This is a lovely holiday cottage."

The downstairs is large and the layout of the dining room, kitchen and living room are great for family/friend get togethers. The bedrooms are cosy and the beds are comfortable. The cottages are in a lovely quiet place and close to nice walks. Woodside Barn is next door to Gormire cottage and shares outdoor space with this cottage. Which might be an issue in the summer if you want complete privacy. Larger groups can book both cottages together.

  • "So pleased we chose Woodside Cottage."

The cottage is absolutely beautiful; clean and cosy, with everything one could ever need. The place was immaculately clean when we arrived, with lovely fresh linens and towels. The property is spacious and so beautifully decorated - I will certainly be recommending it to friends wanting a cosy countryside escape! The fire is particularly lovely, as is the beautiful kitchen in which we cooked many a delicious meal with lovely local produce (a special thank you for the exceptional eggs left on arrival!). The location is totally perfect - right between the Moors and the Dales. We also enjoyed a great Sunday lunch at the Carpenter’s Arms. Thank you for a truly unforgettable holiday!

  • "Had a wonderful time in this lovely cottage which is perfectly situated in the North Yorkshire Moors, close to places like York, Helmsley, Ripon, etc."

It was very spacious and so quiet, just what we needed for a relaxing holiday. The water pressure isn't great for the shower but there's not much the owners can do about that so it's just an FYI! Overall, the 4 of us had a great time and would definitely stay again.

  • "Great place!"

Beautiful, comfortable, great location, very clean, comfy beds, etc. Walking from the door up Sutton Bank was particularly good. 2 suggestions: have a blind in the small bedroom, as otherwise it's an early start in the summer (we improvised with a blanket), and check that the TV connects to the internet (despite the kind help from the owners when we were there, it could not be made to work).

  • "Woodside Barn is a fabulous property for a relaxed stay in the Dales."

It has everything you need and more. The owner had put spring flowers, Easter eggs and fresh farm eggs for our arrival which was much appreciated. If anyone has mobility issues, the ground floor has steps between each room which can be difficult to see or negotiate if not vigilant. Otherwise no problems at all. The barn is appointed to a high standard and very clean.

  • "Woodside Barn is a delightful holiday base - or a relaxing hideaway, if that is what you are looking for (but you aren't in total isolation, there are adjacent properties)."

The location is very rural being in the midst of a farm estate. However, you are only 30 minutes drive from tourist hot spots - lots of heritage sites and good walking routes. The converted barn is quite modern but you need to be aware that there are quite a lot of steps within the building - so the partially sighted or just those who don't concentrate while wandering round the building need to be aware! Perhaps a few step edge colour changes would help. A lack of information regarding the heating system would have been helpful on very cold days (the heating is very good but it was set to operate at night). There were quite a lot of spiders webs too e.g. in window recesses and similar corners -- these didn't cause any problem for us but some users may well be concerned.

Woodside barn was perfect as a base for us, providing a cosy, homely welcome. Natasha was on hand in case we had any questions. The barn was very comfortably furnished with good quality bed linen and towels commensurate with those you find in better hotels. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and we enjoyed walking down the drive and across the fields to meet the animals with our grandson. I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

  • "Location good for touring North Yorkshire."

Limited views from the property due to large modern barn. Property was a high standard overall and well equipped however both bathrooms disappointing, upstairs shower only a trickle, downstairs was functioning but limited flow, (plumber arranged for the day we left) both bathrooms had water marks around the walls and downstairs had a strong smell of wet plaster. Curtains/blinds at the main door would be beneficial to prevent neighbours looking in.

Mrs Widdows, I am aware that the bathrooms are in need of some TLC, we intend on replacing both bathrooms and were booked to get replaced this autumn, but due to the inflation of bathroom suits at the moment we have put them on hold for the time being. The water flow has been restored after a leak at one of the sheep drinkers. My sincere apologise. A curtain in front of the glass door is a fab idea! I will get that sorted. Property Owner

  • "This is a really lovely property in a gorgeous setting."

The property is very well equipped (apart from perhaps a shortage of cups/mugs to allow for dishwashing). It was scrupulously clean with face masks and sanitiser provided. The beds and furniture are very comfortable and the log burner an added bonus. We have a small dog and the enclosed garden was great. However, the property now doesn’t accept pets as the garden is to be shared with the neighbouring property, which limits its attraction somewhat. If you don’t mind this, the property is very desirable.

  • "A really tastefully furnished cottage with all amenities you could wish for."

There were candles throughout should you wish to create an even more cosy atmosphere. Situated within easy reach of Thirsk, Sutton Bank and beautiful walks. We drove to the coast (1hr) and to the Dales (also 1hr) on a few days so it really allows the best of both worlds. A little disappointed that after booking we were told that the garden would become shared as we wouldn't have booked this cottage had we known, but thankfully we only had neighbours for half our stay so had it to ourselves for some of the time. The second bathroom was really a cloakroom with a shower in so a little misleading, and the balcony from the bedroom was more of an external stairway down to the ground level outside. Slightly better signposting from the main road or written instructions may be of benefit but we only went wrong once! Overall one of the best kept cottages we have stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone.

Plenty of room for four adults and two dogs. Owner was very helpful with a minor problem we had during the stay, rectified within a couple of hours. This cottage is ideally situated for all local attraction with walks from the cottage. We would use the cottage again however it is no longer dog friendly and we travel with two small dogs.

  • "The 'neighbour' in the adjoining cottage was friendly and quite helpful, but, she did not adhere to social distancing and told us we were 'fine' as she already had Corona virus, so she thought that was acceptable to come and stand a very close distance to us when speaking!"

She also had a dog which was constantly around our space, but as we have a dog this wasn't really an issue, yet it could of been if the dogs didn't get along, or we did not have a dog. The shared garden area was constantly filled with the other dogs excrement which was very off putting as the weather was very warm and flies were everywhere! We felt we could not allow our dog to use the shared grass area because of this reason. This is not a good place to stay if you want peace and quiet and a relaxing time in privacy. A very disappointing stay in all honesty.

Half mile from house to empty bins - grease on wall behind cooker - no blinds in kitchen looking straight into next door - boot room was a utility room with no boot storage or heater to dry wet gear - wet room was a loo with a shower and a hole in the plastic cladding in the shower partly used loo roll - up stairs loo again partly used, no extra loo rolls provided, no loo roll holder bath looked as though it was not cleaned and mould around bath - walls up the stairs grubby from hand marks - no hoover just a hand brush and a wet mop and bucket - no instructions for TV remote and the TV pixelling on most channels Thirsk and the area to visit is excellent, will be going back to this area, will we use Sykes!

Many really good walks to be had (if that's your thing - I certainly enjoyed them!) right on the doorstep. Superb cottage, would highly recommend.
