  • "The House is in a wonderful location if you want peace and tranquility."

We had some young children with us who were mesmerised with the abundance of wildlife, that the location afforded them to watch. There were some absolutely priceless moments watching barn owls and birds of prey hunting, magpies chasing them away, many song birds a woodpeckers this made the holiday very special for the children.

Dryer didn't seem to dry. Toilet on first loor a bit grubby and didn't use top shower as water kept going hot and cold. Generally comfy house. Clean bedding . Amazing views and a good Base for coast and country. Lots of wildlife. Garden great for the grandchildren.

  • "The location is fantastic, and the views are spectacular."

The house is large and easily accommodates 8 adults. The two twin rooms in the attic are a bit small for tall adults. The two bedrooms on the first floor are amazing, with the double bedroom having superb views across the valley. We spent the majority of the time we were in the house in the conservatory as it was large and bright and airy with wonderful views. I had asked about items in the kitchen and was informed there were condiments such as salt and pepper. We found this was not the case and hadn't taken our own. The large knives were not very sharp and cutting food was a bit difficult. The kitchen scissors also did not cut properly. A hand towel would have been very useful in the kitchen, as we had to use tea towels everytime we washed anything in the sink to dry our hands. We ate all meals in the house, so noticed these minor issues in the kitchen. If you eat out you probably wouldn't notice. I would advise anyone else booking here to assume nothing is provided and treat it as fully self catering, then you will have everything you need. The kitchen issues were a minor blip over the weekend and it would definitely not put us off booking this house again. We also had a medical issue and found it impossible to contact the NHS 111 service from the pay phone in the house and we had no mobile signal. Fortunately the neighbours next door were brilliant and helped us out. We did have to use the services of an ambulance and they had to reverse all the way back down the track as they couldn't turn around in the road! The track to the house is bumpy but as long as you go slowly it isn't a problem. Overall would definitely recommend this house for a rental stay.

  • "A clean and comfortable cottage with spectacular views from every window."

The cottage is in a beautiful spot, which feels very private and secluded but is just a short walk to the pub at the end of the track ( which we would highly recommend visiting) and very close to the village of Rosedale Abbey too. The cottage is great for a large group. There was enough seating in the living room and dining room for our group of 7 and enough hot water for everyone in the morning! We would definitely stay again!

  • "The house was spacious, attractive and generally very comfortable and extremely good value."

The view from the house was stunning and the area beautiful and outstandingly attractive. Parking was limited ( we managed 4 vehicles) and turning awkward but not a problem. Some instruction on heating control would have helped but we mastered it in the end. Supply of fuel for an open fire was very generous. WiFi was excellent. We were 6 adults and all were very complimentary about my choice of accommodation for our visit to the area. Two recommended pubs for good food. The Blacksmithe Arms at Lastingham and the Fox and Hounds at Sinnington

About the location

ROSEDALE ABBEY

Kirkbymoorside 8 miles; Pickering 10 miles; Whitby 16 miles.

Situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and handily placed for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is set within Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breathtaking views. Rosedale is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside with footpaths and bridleways radiating out in every direction. Today, a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that is left of the 12th century Cistercian Priory that gave the village its unusual name. Charming stone built cottages cluster around the village green alongside the village shops, tea rooms, glass studio and three old country pubs/restaurants. For entertainment visit Rosedale Abbey's very own pitch-and-putt golf course and riding stables. Follow this with a visit to Ryedale Folk Museum in the pretty village of Hutton-le-Hole. Alternatively, embrace the outdoors and "Go Ape" in Dalby forest for a truly memorable and adventurous family fun day out. Visit Rievaulx and Byland Abbeys and take a trip on the North York Moors Steam Railway at nearby Pickering. Golfers will enjoy a round on the picturesque course at Kirkbymoorside and anglers can try their luck trout fishing at Pickering. Enjoy a trip to Helmsley Castle and Gardens and take a dip in the open air swimming pool. The coastal towns and fishing villages of the Yorkshire Coast are within easy driving distance. Special events occur annually throughout the year and include Rosedale Annual Show, Pickering War weekend, Whitby Folk and Whitby Goth weekends.
