  • "Lovely little cottage, clean, and fab location."

The hot tub was a nice touch although didn’t appreciate the telling off message, we got from Sykes whilst we were there because the water level was too low after we used it. If there had been a hosepipe there we would topped the water up. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was lovely too. We also think the cottage could be a bit more homely as when we have stayed at other places they felt homely but this felt like it lacked that abit. Overall we enjoyed the visit and would recommend it.

Thank you for your feedback back, we try and keep the cottage welcoming and always very clean,we like to keep a neutral theme throughout the cottage so that it will appeal to all tastes. Unfortunately when the hot tub is used it can dispel some water, and there are clear rules and regulations for guests to adhere to when using the hot tub, we are not allowed to leave a hose pipe to fill up as this would alter the chemicals and make it unsuitable for use, so because the fountain feature had been left on the hot tub had drained, so a polite call to let us pop up and fill if this happened again was all that was required, so the hot tub is not damaged and overheating, We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Cottage is ideally situated for local shops and public transport. Once we parked the car it wasn’t used again until we left. Cottage it self is well maintained and welcoming. Loved the hot tub. If I had to be picky, lap trays would have been useful and the stairs were quite steep. But all in all we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely book again.

A lovely cottage perfect for two. Great hot tub. Malton has a lovely Italian 2 minutes away and plenty of bars. The train station is 10 minutes away with trains to York and Scarborough only 24 minutes in each direction. Car parking information needs updating but once parked no problem. The owners were very friendly and helpful and were on hand if needed. We will definitely return. Thanks.

  • "Lovely clean cottage and the hot tub a real bonus."

We took our own fold up table to use in the living room after reading previous reviews and it was extremely handy for putting drinks and snacks on when watching TV. Could I suggest that another large plate is provided to use in the microwave for cooking on, plus a splatter guard for the microwave to cut down on mess. We had a lovely relaxing week. Can Sykes amend their description of how to get to the car park as the Indian restaurant they mention is no longer there. Would be better to say turn left onto the car park just before the Talbot Hotel as this is easily visible.

Directions to car park need updating as India restaurant no longer open and in the dark we struggled to find it! Constructive feedback: we couldn’t find iron, board or hairdryer on listing so brought our own. Would have been good to know before hand they were available. A full length mirror and socket near a mirror would also be useful for getting ready. All in all brilliant cottage and location and we would use again.

Thankyou, for your feedback, We are glad you enjoyed your stay, please accept our apologies for the directions to the park, all the information was correct at the time of publishing, we will certainly look into updating this asap, we take on board all suggestions to make your stay more comfortable and full length mirror, etc, will be also something that we will consider fitting, looking forward, thankyou again. Location was good.Bonus was the Food Festival was on.Took a couple of trips to the seaside. Was lovely to come back to the hot tub. No problem finding the nearby car park and unloading cases outside the property. Only thing I would say is like the other comments it would be beneficial to have a small coffee table to put drinks etc on in the lounge. Also maybe brighter bulbs in the lights as it was quite dark.Would definitely stay again.

Thankyou, We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, We will take on board your comments about the coffee table, as we sometimes need the sofa bed it can be very difficult to be able to put in extra tables due to fire regulations and exits, but it will be something to consider. Property Owner

My wife didn't care for the stairs but you do get steep stairs in older type buildings. Would have liked a little shelf in the shower. Bed was abit uncomfortable for us but we all have our own preferences. Same with the sofa. Just splitting hairs. Shame that there's no car parking a bit nearer. John Bennett.

Thankyou for your feedback, we are sorry you felt that the bed and sofa where not as comfortable as you would have liked, no shelf in the shower etc, but unfortunately we do our upmost to make our guests have a comfortable stay but cannot always be the best for everyone, as for the car parking it would be near impossible to park outside the property due to the location of the cottage, car parking is provided from us only two minutes away for this reason,I hope everything else was to your liking ,the house is immaculate ,clean and tidy, I hope you enjoyed your stay with us, Property Owner

  • "Major problem with parking being so far from property."

Quite dangerous to load and unload car at property as narrow pavement on one way street used as shortcut between major roads. Obviously little the owner can do about this problem, but not highlighted on your website at booking stage.

Thankyou for your feedback,I am sorry you felt that the car park was so far from the property, when it is only a 4 to 5 minute walk away, so not so far really, ( check with google maps) . As you thought it was dangerous to unload the car I can only presume that there was an influx of traffic whilst you were unloading obviously we cannot be held responsible for this but I must reiterate that the property is in a town centre and traffic is inevitable at peak times. So Thankyou for your feedback, apart from these issues I hope you enjoyed your stay with us. Property Owner

The Cottage: Compact, comfortable and very very clean. The hot tub in the yard outside is perfect. The bed is huge. The shower is great. Noticed the owners have now provided an hair dryer so no need to pack your own. Parking wasn’t an issue once you got your bearings, very short walk away from the cottage. There is a church bang outside the cottage and the bells do start chiming at 7am - they did wake us up but it is what it is. Location Wise: Perfect location for exploring North Yorkshire. Dalby forest worth a visit which is 30 mins drive away. Malton train station 5 minutes walk away with a train to York and Scarborough every hour. We went to Scarborough for just over £12 return per person, it takes approx 25 mins. We didn’t really do much exploring around a Malton but it’s a stones throw away from all the takeaways/shops etc. Overall we would 100% come back here as it was lovely and clean and a good central location to a lot of tourist hotspots.

The provided car park place was fine, a 3 minute walk if you go the back way. The hot tub is amazing and well maintained. We found the bed comfy but we don’t mind a firm mattress. The only reason we didn’t give it 5 stars, we wish we could have given it 4.5, was that I would have liked a hair dryer. A stool would have been helpful at the dressing table. We found the TV position fine and didn’t have any problems watching it. The two things we missed downstairs were some coat hooks and an extra chair in the living room. The sofa was plenty big enough for two but meant I had to sit next to my husband haha. All in all great property, In good location. Would definitely recommend.

The location is perfect for Malton and the talbot food court, the butchers and coffee shop roost was a particular highlight. Try pizza on the square, great food and ales! A short walk in Old malton’s direction gets you to a great field for off lead dog walking with access to walks along the river (bring boots/wellies if venturing from the field). Also being close to old Malton a 20 minute walk gets you to the Royal Oak which does great food and drinks (book ahead). The instructions on finding the car parking spot are great and easy enough to park outside the property and unload the car sand move to the car park and not having to worry about car parking costs. The place was very clean on arrival. Would’ve have been nice to have a dishwasher but that’s our laziness rather than anything else. The hot tub was the best one we’ve used as kept temperature really well and perfect for two people. Can’t really fault it and would definitely use the place again if we go back to Malton.

  • "It’s a nice small place, the layout does not suit any more than a couple with one child."

The booking allows for two adults, two kids and an infant but the don’t have the space. The place is really small but I will say it’s very clean. There’s a small breakfast table but only enough space for two people. The same goes for the hot tub, it’s very nicely closed in and perfect for a couple only, even though the place is advertised to accommodate four people you can only be two at a time in the hot tub. The other downside was the parking which was about a 10min walk away. The lady was very helpful and made an effort to stay on top of the hot tub, the place was really clean so can’t fault that.

Thank you for your response, Upon the time of booking we advertised that the house accommodated up to four guests, it did not accommodate two adults and three children, so granted a house of this size would not have been comfortable for your family, I can only assume it was a booking error. Due to the location of the property, we kindly arranged for the parking so that all guests that stay with us have a secured park, which is only five minutes from the property. So sorry that you found a few issues with the property due to size etc , but I must reiterate at the time of booking the property was based on four sharing , it has now been altered so this issue will not happen again in the future, Thankyou. Probably okay for a few nights but longer starts to become uncomfortable. The TV and sofa are at an angle that makes for uncomfortable viewing- again probably okay if you are only there for a few days and unlikely to watch more than 30mins. Positives- Everything else!

This is sad for us to see a negative feedback I am afraid we did have to use a new bed as we thought customers wouldn't be happy with an old one. We can not do much about the quirky shape to the property resulting in the TV having to go into the corner a bit we did fit a new smart TV with internet access You please some people, some you don't I guess. This cottage was impeccable. The standard of cleanliness was better than expected. The cottage itself was a great base for discovering the surrounding areas of Scarborough and York. There was a dolce coffee maker which was a surprise for us. Alongside the hot tub this is a lovely hidden gem. The hosts came to check the chemical content of the hot tub daily but we didn't even notice that they were there. I would definitely recommend this cottage for a couple's break and will be telling my friends. Would be more than happy to visit again.

  • "I would firstly like to say that the property was immaculate."

It was neutrality decorative and functional. It was close by to all facilities and just a short walk down the hill to pubs restaurants takeaways Etc The paid parking was a bonus however it wasn't outside your door but a walk away but only about 7 minutes. The bed was really comfortable. Secondly there is CCTV footage on the back patio the front door and the side gate!? Sure the owners are just being over protective of their property. However it does seem quite intrusive. (perhaps they have had problems in the past). We were a middle aged couple and we didn't use the hot tub because I thought we were were overlooked by neighbours (several) and CCTV when getting out. Also! If the water temperature in the hot tub was the same as the Luke warm shower in the house which we couldn't turn up then it wouldn't have been not been pleasant I had goose bumps when coming out of shower.in the house It was purely functional for getting washed. In the summer may be ok but in december.then you expect some steam!!/ However due to the advance heating button it was always quite warm. Would highly recommend but hopefully owners will take on board comments No hair dryer!! Which I presume is a staple in all accomodation however if you want to do your washing and it is then no probs. Although I have no desire to do this on hols. There is a washing line outside

Thankyou Victoria, For your honest review, we will take on board all of your comments, ie hair dryer, it will perhaps be something we will consider, I am sorry you found that the water in the shower was Luke warm, if you would have let us know whilst staying in our property it would have been addressed within the hour , I have since resolved this issue and once again I am sorry. The cctv is fitted to ensure your safety and our security, We fitted a solid surround on the hot tub , so as to ensure clients privacy, and the only part visible is the step leading into the tub as we have highlighted in the manual on the table in the property, Thankyou again for your comments. Thanks for your feedback All we want is our guests to enjoy there stay with us. We have had a few requests for a small table and a lamp in the living room so will be getting one sorted ASAP Sykes marketed our property and manage all feedback and bookings so if they feel the need to mention the quirky staircase to the old house I’m sure they will As regards to a freezer we decided more fridge space was better for people rather than taking 1/3 of fridge space with a tiny freezer that arnt much use Thanks again Chris and Melanie Property Owner

We quite enjoyed hearing the church bells. We think that another chair, lamp and coffee table would enhance the comfort rather than a sofa bed in the living room particularly for the autumn/winter months. Being in close proximity to shops, pubs etc was good and when we stayed, there was a food festival which we loved. As the cottage was so close to the bus and train station, we made good use of public transport for days out.

  • "Very clean, well organised cottage in the middle of Malton."

Walking distance to the station and the market place and the feature shops and cafes. The cottage itself is very well situated. The church bells didn't bother us. The road noise was quite noticeable and cars using the lane as a short cut but the roadworks are to blame and they aren't scheduled to go on much longer. The cottage is clean and neat. The stairs are a bit scary for people with big feet :) but its a small cottage so it's to be expected. Everything in the cottage looks new and is modern. The patio is lovely and a good place to read (or snooze). Didn't really use the hot tub much but it looked great in its little gazebo. The only thing we would have liked added to the cottage would be a little coffee table in the living room but I appreciate its a small space and the sofa is a pull out bed so it might not be practical. In Malton we visited the monthly market and bought lots of lovely food. We had an ice cream at the Groovy Moo and a Gin at the Rare Bird Distillery. We had Sunday lunch at the Talbot Malton which was excellent. The Yorkshire pudding dessert was very special. We had a couple of good breakfasts in Malton at cute cafes. The people of Malton are lovely Yorkshire folk and are very friendly. Morrisons is very close to the cottage although I wouldn't recommend their car charger as its very busy. There is a better charger in the car park opposite Yates and Sons which was never busy. The parking situation seemed odd at first but its actually very close by when you get your bearings and it was good to know the car was safely parked especially because we didn't use it every day. We got the train to York twice and went to the Races which was amazing! We also did the bus tour of York. Who knew that Dick Turpin is buried there! Also went to the designer outlet which was comparable to the ones we'd been to in Florida and is a good place to browse and have a coffee. Overall this cottage is clean, well appointed and a great base for exploring and we will recommend it to friends and family.

It was a lovely stay, very clean and had everything we needed, hot tub was a definite bonus. Bed was firm but comfortable for us. The back yard was lovely with the flowers. Morrisons and Lidl is in walking distance. Only thing I would suggest is a lamp in living room for evening instead of having to have the big light on, not essential though. As per a previous review it was busy cars but there were temporary lights up which probably enhanced this however this didn't bother us as we were out most of the time. The church bells are lovely to hear so if you are expecting a lie in then don't stay here as they start at 7am every 15mins till 10pm, however you do get used to them so didn't notice too much towards end of week. Malton is a lovely town, highly recommend India restaurant, Royal Oak (old Malton) 1mile from church Hill for food. Its definitely recommended to book a table for all places in Malton as one evening we couldn't get in anywhere. We also used tangs Chinese. Maybe some info on local doctors, nearest hospital and vets etc in the folder, as our dog was either stung or bitten and had a reaction (his face swelled) and needed to find a vet so can recommend battle flats vets, Norton which is a 10min walk. They saw him ASAP. Wouldn't have thought of this usually but would have been quicker if there had been number to hand. Thank you for a lovely stay x would definitely stay again x
