  • "We had a lovely peaceful stay with our dog at Stone Cross cottage."

The location was perfect for exploring the area -- by foot or by road. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and very well equipped. There was a lovely vase of roses and bottle of wine on the table when we arrived. The washing machine made it easy to pack relatively light and stay for seven nights. The garden in front of the cottage was enclosed and ideal for us and our dog to sit out in. We hope to return next year. Thank you Judi, Lynda, Bill and Bridget

The cottage was spotlessly clean, well equipped and homely, with amazing views over the country side. I was a little hesitant about the spiral staircase when we booked, but it was fine. It's carpeted, the steps are wide enough & not steep. There are some lovely villages round & about. We would definitely visit again. People visiting with four legged friends need to remember food/water bowl's as there weren't any.

Only draw back was lack of bin facitlities. I stayed alone and made little waste but bins were overflowing with beer bottles and waste that was left by other users. A chair in the bedroom would have been good. Everything else was fine. Anyone disabled or unused to stairs would struggle on the staircase to the TV /sitting area.

The cottage stunning, is the best that we have stayed in so far. I would say the photo of cottage doesn't truly portray how lovely it is. • "Fantastic! The cottage had absolutely everything that we needed for our stay."

It was actually larger than we thought it would be and offered us peace, quiet and comfort coupled with being a great base to both cycle and walk. We loved the layout and enjoyed the mezzanine style lounge. Our hosts were great and they didn't interfere with our stay but made it clear that they were on hand should we need to speak to them. There are no shops in the village so forward planning was essential. Regarding properties of this size, this is by far the best we have stayed at. It was clean, well appointed, and we even arrived to find a bottle of wine and some milk - very welcome after a long journey! We were never cold as the underfloor heating was brilliant. Situated in a very private part of the farm we also had somewhere safe to park our car. We were very, very pleased with this accommodation and would visit again. The location was superb for us though possibly too remote for some. Our thanks to the owners for providing such an excellent service. Can't wait to return!

The decor, equipment and cleanliness was up to the high standard we expect from Sykes. Location is wonderful with great walks from right outside the door and moor and coast nearby. Judi the owner was very helpful in making the small enclosed garden area fully dog proof, and had provided a bottle of wine, milk and ingredients for the bread maker on arrival. Be aware that the spiral stairs are open steps which our dog wouldn’t climb, so needed lifting up to the lounge area.

About the location

HUTTON-LE-HOLE

Kirkbymoorside 3.5 miles; Pickering 8 miles.

Situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and handily placed for touring both Moors and Coast, the idyllic little village of Hutton-le-Hole is widely accepted as the prettiest in the area. Charming stone built cottages cluster around undulating village greens, with a stream (Hutton Beck) passing through. It's the perfect spot to sit and watch the world go by - but don't be surprised to find sheep grazing next to you! The village is home to the Ryedale Folk Museum, a 'hands on' museum of local life and tradition, which includes a reconstructed Elizabethan Manor House, farm buildings and craft shops. The village also has a complex of craft shops, workshops, tea rooms and gift shops. Nearby the attractive old market town of Kirkbymoorside lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in between the towns of Helmsley and Pickering. It's a charming place with a slightly 'old fashioned feel' and visitors will find plenty to keep them occupied in the many shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. There is even an 18 hole course for golf enthusiasts and Pickering is the base of the North York Moors Steam Railway - a 'must do' day out for all visitors to the area. Both the City of York and the Yorkshire Coast are within easy driving distance.
