  • "Superb holiday let."

Very comfortable. Mattresses, sofas etc which is very important when you're there for a week. Very warm n cosy. Had to turn the heating down. Kitchen extremely well equipped. Lovely big dining table. The best house we have ever stayed in. Garden great for dogs. Village location and walkable facilities, excellent. Most places dog friendly. We don't use beach as our dogs are too old and arthritic but beach literally end of the road. 2 min walk. Fabulous stay. Loved Marske. Thanks.

  • "The location was perfect, 100m to the beach, just perfect."

The house itself was very comfortable, with everything you need to hand. It was clean and tidy and the heating and hot water was very effective. There are a few bits in the house that needed some TLC, and it could do with a really deep clean, quite a few areas with build up of dust, but in general it was ok. The parking space made a big difference, as if we went out, it meant we didn't need to worry about parking on our return. Overall it was a lovely stay, we were blessed with the weather and would definitely return to the house again.

The garden is not suitable for anyone who has a disability or small children as it is very steep but there is room to sit out near the house. Marske is a pleasant village with a range of shops and eateries.

  • "This is our second time staying here and won’t be the last!"

The house has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. We had an issue with the bathroom door which was quickly sorted by John. The house is close to a range of shops which meant we didn’t have to travel far for things we needed and were able to enjoy being only 30 seconds from a dog friendly beach. We have an 18 month old springer spaniel who hates street walking but galloped for miles along the quiet beach with a smile on her face and her tail wagging. There is a lovely tiered garden which is also fully enclosed keeping her safe.

  • "First impressions were poor due to dead plants outside the front door and the garden had some weeds growing around the edges."

Inside there was very little detailed cleaning, dirty wine glasses in cupboard, microwave stained/dirty inside and outside, oven needs thorough cleaning between customers, kitchen door handles stained, mirrors and shower screen had not been cleaned properly. Noticed 3 drawers had small bits of rubbish and there was so much dust on all skirting boards and tops of wardrobes. The bathroom floor needs some repairs and there was lots of mould around the edge of the shower. Quite a few of the rooms have cracks that need painting over. Most of the local information left in the lounge was a few years old. The house has many good features, great location, good beds, towels, welcome tray, etc. but our overall impression was the owners just did not seem to care enough and rely on customers to do most their own cleaning. Certainly not value for money on this occasion and we will be looking at other companies for our next break in October.

Please note this house is 4 star rated and not five and is dog friendly. We have just been awarded a gold award for the months of April to June. On arrival we have wild flowers but they are certainly not weeds.I have past the comments on to the cleaner in reference to wine glasses, kitchen and shower screen. The three draws are not full of rubbish, draw one cutlery, draw two kitchen utensils and draw three has spare bulbs, batterys and manuals for house equipment. The bathroom floor vinyl is getting changed a week on friday, unfortunately i had to wait for a carpet fitter like everyone else. For those guests who have stayed at my property before and have been back since will know i take note of comments that are left and DO CARE about my customers. This house is nearly booked all year round because we try and make you stay a special one. Thank you John. Property Owner

Property itself is well presented with 2 double bedrooms on the 1st floor and a bedroom on the 2nd floor with 2 single beds. 1st floor bathroom is clean and sufficient whilst there is a 2nd closet toilet beyond the kitchen by the rear door. Large dining/ kitchen open plan with patio doors to the garden. Garden itself is large spanning 3 tiers with a Cosy garden room and great views towards the sea. Overall a fantastic holiday place.

In the visitors book I mentioned the following: The guide mentions no dogs upstairs therefore a stair gate would have been useful as dogs in unfamiliar environments wants to be with their owners. The only other minor was a manual whisk would be useful.

Everything we could have needed during our stay was there. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well. Wifi was strong allowing my son to work from ‘home’. We loved sitting by the sun hut having morning coffee and our springer puppy loved being outside. The only slight issue we had was that the cut holes in the fencing were a little large and she had to be pulled back before she performed her famous Houdini act. The house is literally only a minutes walk from the beach and we spent a lot of our time enjoying walks along it, seeing only a handful of people. There is a drive to park 1 car on but on a couple of occasions found it difficult to manoeuvre on and off it due to the number of cars parked on the road. Marske has lots of little shops within 5 minutes walk of the house. We hope to return soon and have already started looking at dates.

Be aware though - lots of maintenance needed. The toilet seat was cracked, which the landlord turned up to fix unexpectedly when teenage girls were at the house alone: he did apologise for this though and said it was a mix up. The bigger issue was the front door which broke and wouldn't open; he kept giving us 10 minutes notice for the guy to come and fix it, getting annoyed when we were out actually doing things on our holiday.

Saltburn 3 miles; Redcar 3 miles; Whitby 20 miles.

Marske-by-the-Sea is a small, bustling coastal village with long, wide, sandy beaches. Originally an old fishing village, today it has a selection of local shops and pubs, which cater for all the family, plus the safe, sandy beaches, sand dunes and fishing boats are an enticing attraction. Places of interest nearby include Captain Cook's birthplace, the mining museum, and the Zetland Lifeboat Museum. Within easy reach of this quaint village is a horse riding centre, the stunning scenery of the North York Moors, through which runs a steam railway line, and the numerous pretty inland villages and fishing villages including Staithes and Runswick Bay. The old Victorian spa town of Saltburn is just 3 miles away and it's an easy drive to other seaside resorts such as Whitby. A great base from which to tour the area.
