  • “The Sanctuary is a lovely cottage, a short walk from the sea in Marske.”

The owner obviously takes a pride in her property and it was very well equipped, clean and comfortable. The welcome pack was a really nice touch too. Marske itself is a small, quiet town, but has a couple of bars and restaurants - we had a good meal at the Vault & there's a lovely cafe/bar "In the Dog House" tucked away opposite the fish & chip shop (that is also very good). The biggest pub, The Ship Inn is closed throughout the week, only opening at weekends at the moment. ...

The biggest pub, The Ship Inn is closed throughout the week, only opening at weekends at the moment. All in all, we had a relaxing break plus a couple of days of really good weather when we did walks from Markse to Staithes (along the coastal path from Saltburn), plus the hike up to Roseberry Topping and along the ridge to the Cook Monument. Other than that, Runswick Bay & Saltburn are worth a visit, plus the beach was great! Thank you for a lovely stay!
