  • "Never stayed at a cottage before but after staying at Fran’s Cottage."

  • "Fran’s cottage was clean, pleasantly furnished, with a comfortable bed and ample hot water and heating."

Millington is a pretty little village, with many walks from the door to suit all abilities and loads more beautiful walks within 10 mins driving distance. We particularly enjoyed Millington Woods (beautiful flora) parts of the Wolds Way, Thixendale and Wharram Percy. We visited Burnby Hall gardens where the tulips were stunning. We didn’t use the pub but the tea room opposite soon became a favourite! The Mile farm shop a few mins away was useful for bread, milk etc. everything there being sourced and produced in Yorkshire. As we self catered for the whole week, we could have made use of an extra saucepan and a Pyrex dish or two but we had a lovely holiday and would love to return. We did find out a little about Fran but we’re curious to know more. Next time, we’ll go to the village coffee morning to see if we can satisfy our curiosity! Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "A very pleasant, well appointed but compact cottage ideally suited to solo travellers or couples with one child."

For larger groups, the sister cottage next door (Springview Cottage) under the same ownership, and bookable through Sykes, would be ideal. Great to have a good, traditional village pub with outside seating quite literally next door! The beauty of the location is to have the close proximity to York with all its attractions and the convenience of the small town of Pocklington, just two miles away - and yet to also enjoy the feel of being in remote, hilly countryside. While the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors are very well known, the Wolds are something of an undiscovered, hidden gem. The immediate vicinity of Millington Pastures and Millington Woods is stunningly beautiful in its own right. I was well impressed and would certainly book again.

  • "Frans Cottage is set in the heart of the quiet village of Millington, a great place to explore the Yorkshire Wolds from."

Millington has a pub, The Gait Inn and also a tea room, The Ramblers Rest. both well worth a visit. The views from the front windows of the cottage are lovely and I was lucky to see some beautiful moon rises over the hills during my stay. The cottage is furnished to a very high standard and is cosy and comfortable, a lovely place to return to after a day out. The furnishings are lovely and the king size bed is extremely comfortable, the best I have experienced in a rental property. The walking in the area is excellent, the Yorkshire Wolds Way being easily accessed from the property. A visit to the Robert E Fuller art gallery at Thixendale is really worth a visit as is a walk from Goodmanham along the Hudson Way (a dissused railway) to the site of Kiplingcotes station and return perhaps via a circular route along the Yorkshire Wolds Way. The owners of the cottage are friendly and welcoming but not intrusive leaving you to enjoy your holiday. I would recommend this property to my family and friends and hope to return there at some point in the future.

We were visiting friends and family in the area so ideally situated. Great country pub, with welcoming hosts, a short walk away with excellent food. Really comfy king size bed so a good night's sleep was assured !! Would definitely recommend and will return in the future.

Cottage was clean and well equipped and wonderfully quiet. Pub two doors away run by the hosts which provided excellent food. I can recommend both the steak and gammon!

  • "Fran's Cottage is a cosy and comfortable place to stay and a good base for exploring the surrounding area, we just had a couple of minor gripes - we had booked this cottage partly because of the proximity of the village pub and had planned to eat there on the first night after a long drive but unfortunately it was closed (and didn't seem to be open until the following Tuesday), it would've been nice to have been made aware of this, even a notice on the pub door would have sufficed!"

Fortunately Pocklington, 3 miles away, is a very nice little town and had several good places to eat. Also, other reviewers had mentioned a 'welcome pack' so we assumed we'd find milk, tea, etc. waiting for us but this was not the case, and we didn't have a 'starter pack' for the log burner left for us either, as stated in the cottage details.

They left us with a tasty welcome pack. They also provided us with drinks at the neighbouring pub. The location was ideal for us with some great local walks and an ideal base to venture out visiting York and the coastal resorts. Friendly neighbours were always on hand offering advice to enhance our adventure.

  • "Lovely cottage in wonderful location."

Recent stylish renovation but still with a good 'cottage feel', well equipped and comfortable, with good quality bedding, towels etc. Easy parking either outside the cottage or in the pub car park. Good wifi. Owners are very friendly and helpful, and run the Gait Inn next door which is a great traditional country pub, excellent pub food, and good selection of local beers. There's also a splendid cafe in the village, The Ramblers Rest, which despite the name is very popular with cyclists ! Ideal location for exploring the Wolds with walks from the door and the views from the top of the ridge opposite are fantastic. Pocklington only 3 miles away for supplies ( Aldi, Sainsbury's, plus local shops ) and good selection of eating places. Great week - would love to return. Only addition to the details on the Sykes website would be that the shower room is downstairs - not an issue for us but might be for others.

  • "Fran's cottage is a delightful cottage in Millington village away from the hustle of a big town."

The cottage is comfortable and well equipped with cutlery, crockery and cookware. However, if you don't feel like cooking the Gait Inn, 2 doors away, has delicious food. The proprietors are friendly and very welcoming and they also own the cottage. This is an excellent place to stay as there is a lot to see and do in the surrounding area. I would certainly recommend Fran's cottage to other travellers.
