"My husband and I stayed at the Hayshed cottage over Christmas and really enjoyed our stay."
On arrival the owners had left us some Christmas gifts in the way of Christmas cake and chocolate as well as the cottage being lightly decorated with Christmas trimmings and Christmas lights. On entry into the cottage we were met with a nice, warm atmosphere. The stairs are a little steep but at 63 and 67 years young, we still managed them very well and there is a banaster to hold on anyway. The cottage was very comfortable both upstairs and down and the outside of the cottage was very pleasant and dog friendly for us to take him for a walk (although there is a road nearby, but not busy, but we kept his lead on just in case, as he is still only a puppy and still learning not to go near any roads. Would definitely recommend a stay here. We will be returning again in the summer.

"The property was in perfect location for Robin hoods bay, Whitby."
Ideal for a quiet relaxing break. The host was knowledgeable with advice of the local amenities.
-
"A small, but very pretty holiday cottage in a beautiful location."
We found everything we needed for a comfortable stay and our dog was at home straight away. There was a little traffic noise at night, but we still slept well in the comfortable bed. A great location for visiting North Yorkshire and I would recommend both the Hare and Hounds and the Windmill for delicious food.
-
"The accommodation was first class and provided everything we needed during our stay, peace and quiet with Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay a short drive away."
A 20 mile circular walk can be created if you know how to read a map! The Hay shed was prepared to feel homely for us on arrival and nothing seemed too much trouble! We will return most definitely.

"The Hayshed is a delightful, comfortable bijou property with many lovely features."
A comfortable bed and powerful hot shower. There are some downsides, traffic noise, which we knew about. The stairs are very narrow and steep, for somebody on the larger side with mobility issues, like us, they proved a little difficult. The small cooker takes ages to warm up, though an air fryer and microwave are provided too. We therefore had to resort to eating out all week ;-) . On the plus side the location and views are wonderful. It is minutes away from Whitby and close to many other locations like Scarbough. The garden and small patio are a great addition and well maintained. We loved the field and paddock, as did our dogs, where we could sit at the table relaxing and enjoying the view. When the hot water failed, Carrie was there in minutes to sort it. She is a brilliant host, very friendly and helpful. In fact, we loved Manor farm so much we have booked for next year and thought we would try the Cowshed.
-
"We had a wonderful stay at the Hay shed."
Carrie was chatty and helpful and so apologetic about the cracked patio door. The hay shed has everything you need and is comfortable. The location has lovely views of Whitby abbey but is on a busy main road which can be noisy. There are lots of places to visit in the area so it makes a good base for seeing the various castles, abbeys and houses. We enjoyed our holiday here and would recommend it to other people.

"Warm reception from Carrie on arrival."
Excellent accommodation and very well equipped. Bed comfortable . Enclosed paddock to let your dog run free. Thank you Carrie for making our stay enjoyable
-
"Carrie made us extremely welcome , and nothing was too much trouble."
The accommodation was very conveniently placed for Whitby, Robin Hood"s Bay, and Scarborough. The enclosed paddocks were a bonus for our dog, who also had a great time. The cottage itself was very comfortable and very well equipped. Highly recommended.

"Love it, second time we have stayed here booked again for next year."
-
"Unique little place to stay in."
Very rustic! Everything provided for a pleasant stay. Plenty of heating and hot water. Plenty of space for a dog to run around although not so much at the front as there's no gate at the entrance. Very pleasant owner of the property. Lovely sea views. Quite a distance to any shops.
-
"I wanted to give 10 out if 10 but felt not quite able to do so."
The stairs are very steep and the toilet is up there! The bed was amazing and sleep was sound. The shower was corner and catered for the slim but the shower head provided a pulsating shower. The main road was noisy and found ourselves unable to use the balcony. However other outstanding outside space was available for use. Views were outstanding. Owner helpful and pleasant but a couple of small jobs had not been done. Good base and information on bus service excellent as found this best way to get around. £2 a ride or £19 for 3 day on/of ticket.
-
"The place was very nice, road noise was abit of an issue but we new that when we booked, the field for our dog was very good but she could get under the gate if she wanted and then no main gate to stop from running into the road could be a problem for some owners."
Quite a lot of cobwebs that have obviously been there awhile but apart from that the place was adequately equipped
-
"Carrie, the property owner, was very welcoming and we had an absolutely great time at the property that we have booked to go back in May 2024."
The property is compact with everything you need. The bed is so comfortable we are going to buy the same mattress for our own home. Loved the location and l would give it a 10/10
-
"Quirky little place, loved the rustic feel."
Lovely comfy bed and sofa. All the kitchen equipment we needed. Loved the summer house across the driveway, we used it a lot and the paddock area which our dog loved a run in. Scenery was lovely and we could see the sea from our balcony. A bit windy at times but we were high up and that's the British weather for you. Felt really settled here.
-
"We particularly liked the dog exercise area and garden but was smaller than expected."
We had an enjoyable stay and the cottage was comfortable and clean. The cooker was a bit of a challenge and we would have preferred a proper basin in the bathroom. The cottage is ideally placed to explore the Cleveland coast although the footpath that we had intended to use to walk to Robin Hood's Bay was overgrown. The cottage is on a busy road but it did not bother us unduly and didn't disturb our sleep, however, personally I would have preferred a gate between the parking area in the yard and the road.

"Just great we had two weeks there this year and will be back next year thank you."

"Lovely cottage small but perfect for our stay, was lovely to relax at the end of a busy day out site seeing."
-
"Lovely coompact cottage but unfortunately the volume and noise of passing traffic meant we were unable to sit directly outside."
Of the Hayshed. I appreciate that when booking it mentioned the cottage was on the road but if we had realised just how busy it is I wouldn't have booked. There is seating further away from the cottage but feel the photos showing the patio area is slightly misleading as unable to use due to noise and traffic fumes. On plus side lovely dog friendly paddock with amazing views of Whitby.
-
"I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here."
There was everything I needed for a comfortable stay and having use of a paddock for the dog was a welcome bonus. Carrie couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful, which really made it feel like a home away from home. The bed was very comfortable and the blinds kept out a good amount of light. I didn't really use the cooking facilities as I got meals while out and about, there was however more than adequate facilities for what you need. This is a great location for exploring different towns and villages up and down the coast and further inland. Shops are a short car ride away to pick up groceries etc. Lots of lovely pubs and restaurants and cafes also not too far away. It was the peaceful getaway I had been hoping for and I am already looking at when I can return.
-
"Property position very good lovely views from paddock ."
Property was clean , but was disappointing to us. It was described as quirky but I would describe it as rustic . Small lounge diner kitchen was dominated by too large a sofa which had an attached footrest limiting seating . The double socket in the kitchen had heating boiler permanently connected which left one socket for kettle and toaster ,which left youwaiting if you forgot to change plugs . despite these annoying problems we had a lovely holiday .
-
"A lovely little cottage for two people and dog in a superb location."
We really enjoyed our stay and were able to visit all of our favourite places (Whitby, Robin hoods Bay, Runswick Bay, Boggle hole and Saltwick Bay), all with a short drive from the door. Owners very friendly and the additional outdoor space (garden and two enclosed paddocks) made it ideal for a relaxing break with the dog.
-
"Lovely place to stay, the views are outstanding!"
Enjoyed it so much that we've booked the Cow Shed for a week later in the year!!
-
"Perfect location, well maintained loved the decor."
The owner was extremely pleasant and helpful. The paddock facility for our special member of the family (the dog) was an excellent added bonus. We would be more than happy to stay again, it made our holiday even more special.
-
"What a beautiful property."
The thought & attention to detail is outstanding. The owner has covered everything including a lovely paddock for dogs to have a run safely, and with a dog bin provided. We’ll definitely return here and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it. Thanks for a lovely stay.

"Just great"

"Good comfortable place too stay."
Great base for all touring. Host very nice and friendly. We had no complaints the posting given was spot on. Thank you nice break.
-
"Great little property in an amazing location Very quirky accomadation with lots of unusual old and retro artifacts which is unique compared to other accommodation we have stayed in."
Owners couldn't be more helpful and informative and was very impressed. Hopefully we will be back to stay again. Loved the area.
-
"The Hay shed cottage is a charming and quirky place to stay, it made us smile as soon as we walked in."
We were greeted by the owner, she was friendly and helpful, and made us welcome, nothing would have been too much trouble. The cottage is up on the hill, this gives the most fantastic views over the coast and Whitby itself complete with views of the Abbey. There are lots of places to visit from this ideal base, some new places we never knew about. We shall return again to this cottage, we shall also look at staying in the owners other property The Cowshed . Thank you for a great relaxing stay.
-
"The young owners made themselves known to us on arrival, and then stayed in the background until an emergency occurred at which time they stopped what they were doing and rushed back to assist us."
They were extremely helpful giving us advise and suggestions when asked and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. The property was quaint which we absolutely loved, perfect for the two of us and our 2 dogs. The building was extremely cosy and the views fantastic. A perfect base in which to plan your days out. Thank you

"Lovely cottage, everything we req'd and more, great facilities for the dog."
-
"Lovely little cottage."
Enough space for 2. Had a lovely day to Whitby and robin hoods bay. Cottage has everything you need. Lovely paddock and field for the dog. Would recommend.
-
"Some charming finishing touches to the cottage."
-
"The only problem we had was the busy main road noise."
As my husband is a light sleeper and the traffic noise disturbed his sleep!
-
"We had an enjoyable stay at the Hayshed - the property is very well located for visiting the surrounding areas."
The quirky property had everything you need for your stay and the owners were lovely. We took our dogs on holiday and the owners were so nice about them being there - clearly dog people themselves. This did put my mind at ease when they barked at the resident chickens! The only downside was the traffic noise (which we were aware of from the listing) - this was at times too loud to have the windows open and still hear the TV. Whilst the property does have a lovely little balcony area to sit out - we couldn’t do this safely as we have a small dog which could fit through the bars. There is also a little garden area, which is beautifully maintained with sun loungers and a summer house. This isn’t secure though, so accessing it with dogs next to a busy road meant you would need to have them on a lead. There is a field to walk your dogs - which is handy, however not being able to just let the dogs out for a quick toilet break directly from the property, did mean we had to walk them to the field every time.
-
"The owners were friendly and obliging."
The grounds were kept pristine and nothing was to much trouble for Carey and Jamie.
-
"The Hay Shed is a beautiful little cottage."
Wonderful location as so near to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough. The cottage is set in beautiful grounds with amazing views over Whitby. We had a wonderful stay.
-
"We had a lovely relaxing stay."
The cottage was beautifully clean and comfortable.

"Fabulous little bolthole for visiting a stunning region."
The accommodation is small but has everything you need and if you just want somewhere to lay your head, this is great. Dog-friendly and friendly home owner who gave us fresh eggs. Comfortable bed, lovely shower. If you like quirky rustic, you’ll love the decor. Very different from our style at home so we enjoyed having something a little bit different - and it’s so cleverly done. If you live somewhere very quiet normally, you might notice the traffic passing. Or the cocks growing. We noticed but they didn’t detract from our stay. Lovely to have an area for walking dogs and fields beyond that. We’d definitely like to come back as soon as we can.
-
"Hosts excellent and friendly."
Only fault was the road noise and the boiler noise throughout the cottage. Everything else was fine and we had a lovely holiday.
-
"Fab, quirky, cosy little place, few miles outside Whitby."
Everything you could need to cook. Lots of storage. Perfect for a weekend away, private veranda plus a pretty garden to sit in and secure field to walk fur babies. Cottage attaches to owners home but don’t hear anything and although they are friendly and around if needed they leave you to yourself. Will definitely return if/when there is any availability and would take last minute cancellation if I was available as is such a nice, peaceful place to retreat to. It is on a main road but not that much traffic and no passing footfall
-
"The property was as described, in a good location and mostly comfortable."
The sofa in the living area is in my opinion too small to relax on for 2 adults. All other facilities were good and the property was very clean. We only met the owner by default on the second day of our stay which was heavily disrupted by building work going on outside the main window of the cottage. This involved a mini digger and workmen excavating for several hours. It was noisy and inconvenient and we had to move our car twice to accommodate this. The owner ( who had not introduced herself to us) had made little effort to warn us of this and it was inconvenient for us. Sadly we cannot recommend the property for this reason.

"An excellent little cottage."
Well maintained and equipped. The owners live on site and couldn't be more friendly and helpful. They have lots of plans for the future and we would definitely like to visit again in the future to see how these have developed. An earlier guest considered the cooking facilities were inadequate for self catering. We are of a different opinion and consider a 2 ring hob, an oven and a microwave perfectly adequate for 2 people. There is a good sized fridge freezer and plenty of utensils. Additionally the bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent, combine that with two flat screen TV's and and a SMEG flame effect fire plus central heating and you have a comfortable yet quirky place to stay. Outside the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, with probably the best sea views in the area. Whitby Abbey can be seen on the horizon. The Hare and Hounds pub in Hawsker is excellent and the staff are very Covid aware. They do great meals and also takeaways and the service is first class. You need to phone them to book a table but it is well worth the effort. One thing to be aware of and that is there is no DVD player in the lounge. However if you want to watch DVDs in the lounge it is simple matter to plug in your own DVD player by the HDMI connection. The TV in the bedroom does have a DVD player incorporated. Many thanks to the owners Carrie and James for a comfortable, pleasant and relaxing stay. Liz and Rod.

The Hayshed was a very cosy getaway and Carrie James and Xavia very welcoming We enjoyed the peace within sight of the Abbey Our dog had a wonderful time too Must have given 11 out of 10 The Maycocks

"We did not feel The Hayshed was really adequate for a weeks' self catering holiday."
We had to wash and clean all the pots, pans and cutlery before we could use them as they were either dirty or dusty. The wooden main door straight into the living room was warped and didn't fit properly either so a force nine gale came through it the whole time we were there despite the floor length curtains covering it. The 2 ring cooker was quite efficient but if you had more than a couple of items to cook you were looking at over 2 hours to cook a meal. There was a convection microwave but there was no microwaveable dishes to put anything in as there was only two of everything. Luckily the bed was really comfy which was a saving grace. We discovered the owners had changed and the photographs on the website did differ from when we had booked it as there was only the 1 settee. It was quite claustrophobic after a time which was unfortunate rather than feeling comfy and cosy. The bonus for us as we went for a walking break was that it was close to The Cinder Track and the coastal path.

"Very friendly and helpful owner."

"Fantastic quirky cottage."
From the time we arrived we had a warm welcoming. Perfect location for walks. After a long day walking with the dog it was great knowing we was coming back to an amazing shower and comfy bed. Couldn't of asked for anything more. Thanks Sasha and Neil

"The Hayshed was very quirky."
The bed and pillows were so comfortable. The property was very central to places of interest. We ate every night in the Hare and Hounds which was 5 minutes drive away, very friendly place and the food was good. Carrie, James and Xavier were very nice people and we want to wish them all the best for the future.
-
"Great place to stay for our short break ideally placed for Whitby and Scarborough, the accommodation was spot on with good views to the sea, although on the main Whitby to Scarborough road traffic noise wasn’t an issue , plenty of footpaths to navigate and discover!"
Walked from our digs to Robin Hood bay well worth the effort and the dog loved it in the sea, it was just the walk back nearly all up hill! Weather was good so a relaxing , enjoyable break was had by both of us and the dog!
-
"We had a great time at the hayshed."
Our hosts James and Carrie we amazing so welcoming ,Very down to earth and nothing too much trouble . The hayshed had everything you could want and need. The views of the sea and the abbey were fantastic and the sunsets were to die for. We will definately go back for another week. A couple of minutes in the car and your in Whitby. 10 mins on your push bike. Great place to explore robin hoods bay, staithes, Runswick bay, boggle hole and all the North Yorkshire moors. Go to Pickering and get on the moors steam railway ! fantastic ! All in all a great week. Missing it already.

"The Hayshed is a lovely, cosy, quirky cottage, perfect for two people (plus our dog) great facilities with a fab shower, just perfect for when you get back from walking or cycling the breathtaking scenery the cottage also enjoys."
Special mention has to go to the recently new owners, Carrie and James, they couldn't have been more helpful and obliging, nothing was too much trouble and were always available if needed, we have done many similar holidays but found them the best. Lastly the Hare and Hounds in the village we highly recommend, the food is outstanding. Paul, Tina (and Lola the dog) ,Worksop July 2019.
