  • "This being the first time we have booked a Skyes Cottage, we found the property well equipped unfortunately we found that the cleaners had left dirty cups on side, there were dirty dishes put back in cupboard."

We had to ring the contact numbers which were in property as (1) We had to use our computer to watch tv as their was a problem with cable. (2) Bi-folding doors did’nt work properly a maintenance man came he repaired them but then went wrong again could-nt lock properly. He also had to stand on table to turn fan in lounge on.

Arriving on a chilly February afternoon, we were greeted with a lovely warm property. The property was immaculate. Two en-suite bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable and furnished with high quality bed linen and quilts. Kitchen had all the appliances you could ask for. Washer / drier was especially handy. Comfortable sofas that appeared new and a wonderful log burner. We just couldn't fault this lodge. So impressed we have booked to stay again! Thank you!

Everything we needed was provided, a real home from home (loved the coffee machine, on returning home I’ve ordered one.)The wood burner was fab, used it a lot (no starter pack was left for us but local Tesco had plenty) Just a some thing, new light bulbs in both bathrooms need replacing, only a couple work. I think someone previously had tampered with the hive settings and the automatic bathroom light in the master room worked randomly, mostly turning off when you walked in but dur to amount of windows this was not a huge issue. Having been a few times to the bay staying at different properties anyone planning on visiting would do well to visit the aria resort page to book swimming and activities in advance as they were all fully booked the first day we arrived.

I suppose we may have been spoilled by previous holidays with sykes and the welcome packs received, but if it says a welcome pack contains milk ,biscuits and other items and nothing is there well it is annoying and no shop on site if we had not brought supplys of our own after a long drive in dreadful weather it would have been worse. The standard of cleaning left a lot to be desired cobwebs and dust everywhere and to open a cupboard to get plates out and the first one you see has a massive chip out of it says a great deal. The door handle in master bedroom not properly attached, and first bed in the other room very rickety.

We rand the caretaker as our patio door was broken, nobody turned up to fix it over the 6 days we were there. The facilities in general were good. The beach was fantastic, the pool was good, although splash time was cut short by 20 minutes despite being an additional cost. Great location on the site and perfectly clean. My only minor niggles, and they were minor, was that there was no bread knife and the mattress didn't match our tastes. But these minor issues aside, the place was perfect and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

It was set in a new holiday village which were all new build houses or beach houses. There was a great pub which did lovely food ( bar meals ) There was a swimming pool on site which was warm and staffed. I was aware of children's activities e.g. archery but we did not take part in this . The beach was a short but steep walk . It was a very easy tarmac path from the house estate to the beach. There were lots of dog owners and people walking around the estate. It was very safe for children. I would definitely return . The house itself was fantastic and decorated in a beach style . The furniture was good and you had a good fitted kitchen with washing machine and dish washer. The showers in the two bathrooms were of good power and quality and the heating within the house was excellent.

The problems we found was the house is surrounded by houses and is on the main route to the beach so sitting out on the decking isn't very pleasant or private. The house would be super for 2 adults & 2 children as a bit too compact for 4 adults. The beach is within walking distance but down a very steep hill. My sister uses a wheelchair and we struggled to get down and back up with 3 adults helping! The pub is very handy and does lovely meals. The shop is actually a chemists and didn't stock any of the stuff we wanted so we had to travel further afield for any shopping needed. When we booked we thought it was in a traditional village not a holiday village!

  • "Initial reaction upon arrival was one of surprise as we did not expect to find this beach style lodge on a road with brick built houses no more than 20 feet away on the opposite side."

We felt that the listing picture was deceiving as the lodge was basically on an estate type holiday park and not facing onto an open area or beach. The above said once we were over our initial shock we found our weekend break to be extremely enjoyable. The quality of this lodge was second to none. It was well stocked and equipped with high quality fittings. Everything worked perfectly and we could not find fault with anything except perhaps the shower in the main bedroom ensuite which was walk in but the water flowed into the area outside and this needs addressing otherwise it floods over into the rest of the floor. The lodge was positioned well for the beach which was a ten minute walk away.it was also close to the public house which seemed well used and also an Italian restaurant. The place is dog friendly and well used by dog lovers. Overall an extremely good weekend which we booked at short notice. Would not hesitate to recommend Sykes or go back to this nice lodge and locality.

He said he would be there in 10 minutes and true to his word he was. He fixed the problem within a couple of minutes and I asked him about the fan light. This was just a ceiling fan with no light. I commented that my daughter and I like to do craft and my husband liked to read so a good light was essential. The walk to the beach is pushchair friendly and worth taking if you've a toddler as the walk back is challenging as it's uphill and after they got tired playing on the beach I was wishing I'd taken it. The beach is a beautiful, clean and sandy beach. Beach walk has everything you could want, the weather was a little poor this February as expected so we spent some afternoons taking advantage of some playing cards, board games and DVDs that we found there. The decor, features and fitting and quality furniture really made the place feel classy, I loved the bathroom furniture and the thick warm bedroom carpets. The twin locking beds are firm and stayed together very well. It was nice the house was detached as it made it feel private. The heating could be controlled manually which we were very grateful for. About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.5 miles; Bridlington 11 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
