  • "The property was amazing, the position was amazing, we booked for a week as my Big Bro and family were over from Australia for our wedding and unfortunately due to work commitments we could only join them Saturday to Tuesday which would normally be long enough to explore and enjoy the area and surrounding beautiful places together but on our first morning we had an issue and the water from our bathroom ran through the ceiling lights downstairs."

Immediately I called the Sykes helpline number to be told someone would call us back, which they did immediately to say that a plumber was on his way. we moved furniture out of the way to limit the damage etc and told our family to go out as they'd come all the way from Australia and we would meet them late. The plumber finally came out the following afternoon after another phone call, with the promise of a call back, that did not happen and several chats, again saying someone would call us and no one did. So we had from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon to enjoy exploring the area with our family but had to wait in Sunday & Monday for the plumber, the issue was fixed which was great for the homeowner but no apology from yourselves for our inconvenience on such a short break and minimoon that we were all looking forward to. The house was amazing with all the comforts of home and we would definitely go back but the disappointment was caused by lack of communication from Sykes, the ceiling is in a mess and we were worried about the electrics due to the water pouring through the lights and ceiling so am now on the cautious side to book through Sykes again ? Always used you for UK breaks and this was our first issue whilst away but we aren't convinced by the service we received to use you again ???

  • "Lovely cottage, well equipped with everything you need, we didn't have any children but if we had there was a lot of glass around which isn't child friendly but the cottage was really lovely."

    Enjoyed our stay very much

  • "A lovely cottage in a great location!"

We immediately felt at home in this lovely cottage! We enjoyed how close it was to the sea and the great beach. There is so much to discover in the area on foot, by bus (bus stop very close to the house) or by car. It was nice to hear and see the sea from the upper floor and garden. There are three bedrooms with comfortable (with 1.40m for two people maybe a bit small, depending on what you are used to and how tall you are) beds and two bathrooms. One thing that needs to be improved is the cleanliness, especially in the kitchen ( the cabinets were very dirty and unhygienic inside). But otherwise the house is really recommended!

  • "We had a great stay in a perfect setting."

A very well equipped house with great outside space. A bit awkward at times as I’m currently walking with a stick but it didn’t spoil our break.

  • "Thanks to the lovely house we had a fantastic holiday in Sandsend!"

! We would def5stay there again. It was a nice size house and big enough rooms and space that we didn't feel on top of one another. The bed photos were not clear in the advert, I think there were 2 photos of the same bed. It was advertised as 3 double beds but we found and used the folding bed for our 3 Yr old which we were really really happy about! That was a worry for us. It's a shame this wasn't advertised as it would have really helped us. There were toys and other things for children, so children were clearly welcome. It's also a pity a sheet wasn't able to be provided for the folding bed. Again if we had known we could have easily brought one with us. The house was great. The only thing wrong was the dishwasher - it didn't fit things very well and the dinner plates and wine glasses were too big for the dishwasher. So we washed by hand. Thank you for the lovely stay

  • "The property is situated in a perfect location 2 minutes from Sandsend sea front."

You do need to climb a few steps to get there though the quaint cottages in the location. On entering the property you enter the kitchen and living room area which are spacious and very well equipped with everything you would need on holiday, including a washing machine, dish washer, slow cooker and coffee pod machine. There are three bedrooms on the next two levels and one bathroom on level two and an en suite on level three. You can see the sea from level three. The beds were very comfy! The garden is levelled and a lovely space with a sea view from the top of the garden. We watched the sun rise from here on one of the days. The property is in a perfect location and you can see Whitby Abbey in the distance. There is a lovely Wits End Cafe 2 minutes one way and The Hart Inn pub 2 minutes the other way. There is on road parking but this is limited, although we were lucky every day that we stayed and managed to get a space. There is a public car park only a minute away though. Unsure of charges. In all I would recommend this property but do think it would benefit from a deep Clean to freshen it up. No complaints from us and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Whitby.

  • "The property is well furnished and spacious."

We had everything we needed (apart from a place to dry washing) The beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the sea from the top of the garden, great to sit outside with our teenage kids. Lovely beach just a few minutes walk away with a nice vibe around Sandsend too, we had a really enjoyable holiday. The highlight was mackerel fishing from a boat that we signed on to from Whitby harbour. The directions to the property weren't great if you arrive in the dark. As you look at the hotel with the sea at your back, take the right-hand set, of 3 sets of steps. Keep going right to the top, turn left and Apple cottage is the house on the left of the two.

  • "Lovely clean cottage everything you could need at hand ."

Great location just across from the beach. On the down side unloading the car is a nightmare as it’s first come first served parking on the road there are steep steps up to the property too . If you don’t get street parking the public car park is £6.50 for 24 hours ! And the garden is a lovely sun trap with aged furniture but again not for little ones or anyone with mobility issues as again very steep steps up to the different levels . That is the only downside to the cottage would I go again ? Definitely

  • "Hi - I have been booking cottages with York’s coastal Cottages for years."

For the first time, I found cottage slightly lacking. I was surprised at the lack of anti bac spray and hand soap. I don’t recall ever having to bring these items from home before and given the times we are now living in, would have expected these to be provided.

  • "The cottage was clean, cosy & well appointed to a very high standard."

The beds were comfortable & the facilities were more than adequate for our party. It’s location is perfect, five minutes from the beach. The split level patio area is good but children will need supervision. Our only problem was that on arrival both wheelie bins, recycling & household waste were full. This should have been sorted by the pre- rental cleaning team. That being the only fault we would happily return to Appletree Cottage.

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
