  • "In my opinion the cottage had not been cleaned properly."

Certain electrical items didn't work as the should of ie, toaster not working on all sides and the dryer part of the washer/dryer not working. The wall paper in places was coming away and one of the single beds was broken. A bit more attention could be spent in the kitchen/bathroom things like cleaning products and a tea towel could have been provided. Other than this we enjoyed our stay. .

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay bar the parking ticket!! We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Fantastic cottage, location ideal, we have walked our socks off."

The parking permit was essential and managed to get a space no problem. On the leaving day we managed to get a spot right outside. The base is ideal as you can walk everywhere. We also visited Bridlington, Filey and on the way home Robinhoods Bay. We have loved the couple of nights away. The only negative is the bed is not the comfiest. But hopefully will visit again.

Thank you so much for your feedback - it's very much appreciated. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return visit! Property Owner

  • "The house is lovely with plenty of room but it does need a little bit of tlc, I completely understand it’s an old house on the coast so will suffer with damp but there are places where wallpaper is peeling etc."

didn’t bother us but might others. We called it the hobbit house as the doors and staircase to the 3rd floor are very low, if you’re tall be careful, I’m the smallest at 5ft 8 in our family and hit my head a few times. It’s in an ideal location for the seafront, town etc and has everything you would need. Parking can be an issue, especially at school run times. I would recommend but don’t be expecting a modern pristine place, it’s terrace house so comes with the issues of an old house.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed the location of Captain's Cottage and benefited from being so close to the sea and all the wonderful entertainment in Scarborough. The property was renovated with a full damp course, so thank you for letting me know about the wallpaper - I will let the maintenance team know to help rectify it. Wishing you all the best. • "The photos give the impression of a lovely cosy clean cottage."

Reality is the wallpaper is peeling, damp in the top bedroom ceiling and heavily stained carpets. There is no mention the property is next to a school and if you arrive @ 16:00 you won’t get parked outside.

Thank you for your comments. As per the details on booking a permit is provided for the parking and parking is available along the road or around the corner. The property is located in the very popular old town area of Scarborough and is five minutes walk from the beach. It is located in a residential area as this is usual for this location with all the benefits of being close to the town, the beach and the restaurants. The cottage has recently been redecorated following its annual maintenance. I will follow up with my cleaning team with regards to the carpet, paint and wallpaper. Thank you for highlighting this to me. Hope you enjoyed your stay and wish you the very best. Property Owner

Its ideally situated being close to the market, the beach and all central amenities. A lovely decked area for a garden was perfect for the doggies. The kitchen/diner was so well equipped and the lounge was cozy coupled with a lovely 1st floor bathroom. We felt really comfortable and at home. Can't wait to go back.

  • "This property is in a great location but was greatly let down by the decor, odour and cleanliness."

Wallpaper falling off, paint falling off the ceiling onto my son's bed, doorstep held on by plasters. I had to wash all the cutlery, plates, bowls and glasses before we could use them as they were dirty. Very strange odour in the main bedroom. I have let the owner know and they have had a change in cleaners so some of this may improve. Also walls are extremely thin and neighbours are very noisy, shouting and swearing until early hours most nights (I realise the owners cannot change this). It's a shame as the property is in a great location, close to the beach, lots of shops and restaurants nearby and is very spacious for a family of four.

Thank you for your feedback Rebecca. I am obviously disappointed to read about the issues you had. I am glad you found the cottage to be in a great location and happy we were able to resolve the issues for the next guests. As you have mentioned we have had a new cleaning team in and your feedback has been passed on to them. Wishing you all the best Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely holiday in Scarborough."

The position of the cottage is good for the nearby market etc but as many seaside resorts the area in general is quite run down. The cottage itself was very nice, clean and comfortable and lovely and quiet considering the location which is near a school. There is a good selection of take away food outlets so we didnt do much cooking at all in the cottage but the modern cooker was easy enough to use.The beds were very comfortable even though the double bed is quite creaky because of the wooden base. The bathroom is lovely, clean and modern ,the overbath electric shower isnt very powerful but we managed to use it without problems. All in all we would give the cottage a great rating and maybe we will return again nxt year.

From opening the door the cottage has been beautifully decorated and really felt like a home from home. The kitchen has everything you would have at home and the washing machine is an added bonus. The bedrooms again were beautifully decorated and very comfy. The outdoor space is fantastic and perfect for relaxing. Only a short walk from the beach and less than 5 min drive from the supermarkets. We never struggled to park near to the cottage which was also good. Would highly recommend and would love to return one day.

The next door was extremely noisy young child running and shouting up and down every night parents shouting at her every night we went to bed then on last night we were in bed heard the other side of house come in started playing guitar and then singing, we thought that house was empty as looked run down but someone was living in it We didn't feel safe living there there was young lads walking up and down in the middle of night we were woken up a couple of times The property itself had everything you would need for your stay but sorry unable to recomend this property as area was not good

Dear Mrs Giubilaro, thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that Captains cottage had everything you needed for your stay but obviously disappointed to read your comments about Scarborough. We specifically chose to purchase this cottage due to its excellent location and the old town community in which it is based. As a mum myself, I appreciate that the local area is a key consideration and as other guests have stated, the great location of the cottage is hard to find, which makes it ideal for families wanting to be near the local amenities. Unfortunately I am unsure of any locations in Scarborough or nearby that do not have a mix of both privately rented and council housing. The majority of houses on longwestgate are however privately owned as you can see from an internet search of properties in that area. Unfortunately I do not have control over people walking down the road, I will obviously pass your feedback on to the private holiday cottage owner next door. The noises seemed to be from another holiday maker, therefore I am confident that this is a very rare occurrence. Thank you once again for your feedback it's very helpful and we hope that you will come back to Captain's Cottage, Scarborough another time to experience the Yorkshire heritage, views of the castle and proximity to the sea Property Owner

  • "It was very clean and comfortable with lots of little extra touches We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return any time."

There were just a couple very minor things which did not really detract from the stay. You might want to thinl about a black-out curtain on the bedroom window - the street light is right outside When we arrived, the back door was unlocke Also, there were 5 bin bags of rubbish and a dustbin full of rubbish on the decking. This wasn't much of an issue as it's February and we did not go out there till our last day. Sadly, when we went to put our rubbish out there on our last day, it looked like the high winds had blown the dustbin lid off and the seagulls had done their job. We decided to leave our rubbish inside.

Dear Mr Lively, thank you for your feedback. I am pleased to hear that you found your stay at Captains cottage to be clean, comfortable with lots of extras and that you would happily return anytime. I have passed your feedback with regards to the bags, door and seagulls to our cleaner who has assured me that this will be addressed. We do pass on details with regards to bagging up rubbish to our guests and which bags to use upon booking however it seems that unfortunately on this one occasion the rubbish day was missed. Our cleaner is very good and eager to listen to feedback, as you have mentioned re the cleanliness of the property on your visit. We will continue to advise our guests of the process. We are glad this did not detract from your stay and we look forward to welcoming you again soon! Property Owner

Been decorated recently so some doors are difficult to close. As it is now dog friendly a hoover would be handy. Had a small issue with rubbish on arrival, seagulls had got to the bags on the decking and made a mess. Also not clear on procedure for which colour bags go out on which Friday.

The south beach is a 10 minute walk and ideal for town. Had a great time over the new year with our dog, who loved the walks on the beach. The new years fireworks where fabulous.
