"We liked the house but there were a few issues."
Dog muck right outside the house didn’t help as it’s on the road (not owners fault) but glad we didn’t tread it in. Furnishings r lovely and it’s well equipped but the front door sticks, door to kitchen doesn’t shut, (luckily it’s heavy or would have been a nightmare as wanted dogs to sleep in the kitchen) bathroom door out of line so lock can be fiddly. Mattress in bedroom hard. Garden light doesn’t work and there r steps so it’s a hazard as u could fall. Also flow pipe in next doors bathroom is not connected but on their property!!!! Telescope in loft room doesn’t work and husband went to look at the blood red moon and the leg fell off so really needs removing. With everything fixed this would be a lovely house. Permit is a great addition as parking in Scarborough is a night mare. Unfortunately with the issues we would not go back to this property and it was not cheap for the 3 nights. The owner is very helpful though.
Thank you for the feedback, which we will take on board. However, we feel it is important to give some perspective. We are new owners, having purchased the property in early June. Along with the purchase, we inherited a lot of bookings throughout the remainder of this year. June, July, August and Sept are, not surprisingly for a seaside resort, very busy. We therefore haven't had a lot of opportunity to undertake minor maintenance between guests due to the high occupancy. To respond directly to your points though:- 1. There's not a lot we can do about dog muck and irresponsible dog owners. 2. Doors sticking/out of line. The cottage is 170 years old and building standards were not as exact as modern day standards, although we do feel as though that is part of the charm of the property. The doors are all fire doors to suit the fire regulations so yes, they are quite heavy. 3. The mattress is hard. This is subjective - some guests have commented directly that they found the beds very comfortable. 4. The garden light doesn't work, that is correct. We will be fitting a new light at the first available opportunity. 5. The flow pipe from next door. As you rightly point out, this is redundant and isn't connected so we're not sure why you have flagged this up as an issue. 6. As part of the purchase, all fixtures and fittings were included in the sale. Whilst we have provided new sofa's, coffee table, curtains etc etc the telescope was left by the previous owner. We weren't aware that it didn't work, but this will now be removed from the property. We're obviously sorry that these few issues would prevent you from staying with us again as, notwithstanding the above, you appear to have enjoyed your stay and thank you for acknowledging that we are helpful owners.
