The flat on 2 floors was delightful. The kitchen was well appointed with a lovely sofa at the bay window where one could sit and gaze up and down the road to the castle or towards a lovely old church. The double bed was comfortable with a bedside light to read by. Upstairs, there was a nice big sitting room with TV and DVD player and another bedroom with 2 single beds. The real charm of the flat was its position - a minute walk from the promenade overlooking the north bay on one side, a 5 minute walk down to the south bay and harbour on the the other side or a 5 minute walk up to the castle to the east or down to the town centre to the west. Scarborough is a lovely seaside resort with a wealth of little paths and steps, coffee shop and lovely buildings. There are lovely walks along the coast - we did the walk to Whitby Bay and returned by bus. The Grand Hotel should not be missed just for its Victorian splendour though it is looking very down at heel. The beach is flat and sandy so good for paddling but the sea is absolutely freezing to swim in - perhaps better for surfing in a wet suit. Potential downsides to be aware of - if you have a car, there is no free parking anywhere nearby, so you either have to get up and out before 9 am and back after 6 pm, pay in the car park, or find the nearest free parking spot (We used Scalby Mills Road some 20 minutes pleasant walk from the flat). The flat is on the 2nd and 3rd floor up a quite narrow and steep staircase. You have to be able to sleep through the sound of sea gulls squawking and shrieking much of the night - surprisingly we both did. Opening the front door with 2 keys is a bit fiddly. And my only small complaint was that whereas the flat as a whole was clean, the cleaners had missed cleaning under the bed.
