  • "Property was very clean and comfortable and well renovated."

Would have preferred to have the bedroom on the same floor as the bathroom. Really well situated for the town and the beach. Some suggestions: Better instructions on how to turn on the heating would be useful. The hoover is not the best. Would have been useful to have bedside tables with lights on rather than having to get out of bed to turn off the main light after reading and somewhere to put a cup of tea in the morning. We really enjoyed our stay and the weather was so much better than expected.

  • "We choose this property initially because we have a dog and staying in a b&b or hotel is just a pain."

So glad we did. This house a 1 minute walk to the main highstreet and 2 to 3 minutes down to the seafront. The house itself is lovely. It's clean and tidy, lovely bathroom on the top floor along with a second lounge. A double bedroom and a bedroom with two single beds on the second floor and a lounge a kitchen and downstairs loo on the ground floor with a decked area out the back. The hosts replied very quickly to a couple of texts I sent them before and during our stay and were very helpful. If we go back to scarborough this is the place we will stay again.

What a beautiful property. It was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities that we needed. The bathroom was amazing, very luxurious. Parking could be challenging at times but we always managed to find a spot. The owners were very helpful and left out a parking permit and disc for us to use. The welcome guide was very helpful and gave some great recommendations for days out and restaurants etc, and the welcome pack for our dog was a friendly touch. Thank you very much, we will definitely be back.

  • "Beautifully finished holiday home in a brilliant location for Scarborough beach, spotless clean throughout."

Board games were great fun and used by our family. TV room upstairs kids loved. Parking was not to bad, typical of places like this with on street parking but many spaces around within 100 metres. Stairs are steep and layout is not ideal but it maximises the space which is the compromise (loo on ground floor and family bathroom on 2'nd floor). Welcome pack a great addition. Negatives are minor but quite annoying: need to heed advise on other reviews already, like nowhere in bathroom at all to put anything apart from on the floor! No bedside tables or even a bedside lamps in the master bedroom, vacuum cleaner was not working. A nest of tables in living room is needed and somewhere to hang coats. Minor things so i still rated highly but could achieve a 10 with a some minor adjustments. It has no dishwasher which i have not marked it down for but it is surprising in such a well specced house as many people staying will be used to having one; i would have not booked it if the kids had not liked the TV room as much.

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry you missed the toilet brush,it is kept in the downstairs toilet. The mop can also be found in the cupboard under the stairs. We do not have any additional stair rail but banisters are in place. Property Owner

  • "The place was lovely and clean and the closeness to the seafront was brilliant."

The only downside was the bathroom, my wife has a disability and she found the climb up the stairs to the bathroom a bit awkward for her as there was no handrail. But this did not deter us enjoying the premises. We would thoroughly recommend it.

  • "We had a lovely stay at The Old Town Retreat."

Location was great. There is off street parking which is on a first come first served basis so that could be an issue but there is public paid parking nearby. The accommodation was lovely, clean and well equipped. It may not suit anyone with mobility issues as there are a lot of stairs across the 3 levels which are quite steep. Could benefit from a nest of small tables in the lounge to put drinks etc on but it’s certainly not a deal breaker. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday; thank you.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Old Town Retreat."

Spend more time in the snug in the evenings than in the lounge area as it was as the name suggests. Only tiny issues we had were a lack of somewhere to hang our coats when we came in, and no instructions as to where the bins were. Otherwise ace!

It's very tastefully furnished and obviously recently refurbished to a very high standard. On street parking can be a bit hit and miss but the owners provide parking tickets so it is free to park and there is a car park very close by too (payable). We would definitely visit again if in the area.

Beds very hard, nowhere to hang outdoor coats. No where in lounge to put cups or plates when watching TV etc. Damp patches on walls on lounge and kitchen walls. Next door owners carrying out improvements for 4 days at all times. Same owner putting out their own traffic cones, to save spaces outside their property !.

Arrived to a welcome pack not just for ourselves but for Max our dog as well. The house is very well equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Even left car parking vouchers, everything well thought out. Good communication with the owner. We would not hesitate booking Old Town Retreat in the future. Much needed and welcome break. Lots to do in Scarborough and surrounding area. Our trip was made special by seeing the dolphins at Scarborough beach whilst walking the dog.

  • "Loved our stay at the Old Town Retreat, a lovely property in the centre of Scarborough."

The property had everything we needed and was very comfortable, and in a quiet side street just a few minutes walk from the shops, bars and seafront. Sykes' didnt mention the parking arrangements in the booking confirmation but when I contacted the owner upon arrival they advised they had provided parking permits for the whole week in the information pack. It would be worth knowing this in advance as all the roads in the vicinity are restricted. Would definitely recommend this property and will very likely book this next time in Scarborough.

Within striking distance are a number of attractions and activities that all ages will enjoy, making Old Town Retreat an excellent find for groups of families, friends, beachcombers and avid ramblers to call home a while.

Soak up the coastal town soundtrack and ambiance before pushing open the front door to reveal the sitting room, where the sofa and accompanying armchair invite you to relax and unwind at the end of a bracing day, with a TV providing the evening’s entertainment.

Take the far door to discover the kitchen, a bespoke suite with several modern touches and all the appliances one would need to cater family-favourite recipes and prepare picnics for the beach days ahead.

Whilst the entire group can enjoy each other’s company at the dining table with a tipple or two, the second-floor snug room makes a perfect hideaway for sneaking in a moment’s peace to delve into a good book or for the younger guests of the group to watch the latest box set on the TV.

The first floor landing grants access to the two bedrooms, the master suite notable for its elegant décor with quality linens draping across the double bed and the second bedroom features a twin layout with good storage space, perfect for children or a set of friends.

Continuing to impress is the family bathroom, placed on the second floor, where the Velux windows overs views across the seaside town and a roll-top bath allows you to savour a moment of relaxation at the end of a fun-filled day.

From the doorstep of the cottage, a plethora of places to eat and drink await you, ranging from classic Yorkshire roasts, to fine restaurants serving up the freshest supply of local seafood and cool cafés, where you can refuel after a day by the seaside.

Meander the winding streets lined with local shops so that you can pick up any essentials as well as any gifts to take back home, before venturing to one of the two beaches, which are overlooked by the towering Scarborough Castle, a former medieval royal fortress.

Within the town are an array of activities to suit all ages, including Alpamare Water Park with its indoor pools, an outdoor infinity pool and a gigantic wave pool and the famous Peasholm Park, with its stunning oriental gardens is also well-worth exploring.

Be sure to catch a show at the Open Air Theatre or if you are visiting with children, be sure to catch a glimpse of exotic fish at SEA LIFE Scarborough or relish in a day out to Luna Park.

Further afield, you could venture to the beautiful town of Whitby, home to the famous 199 steps up the ruins of Whitby Abbey, said to be the inspiration behind Bram Stoker's Dracula or avid ramblers can hike along the Flamborough Headline Heritage Coast or discover the North York Moors National Park for more outdoor adventure.

If you are looking for an action-packed break, look no further than Old Town Retreat.
