  • "The welcoming cake and eggs was a nice touch."

The only slight negative was when the weather warmed up towards the end of our stay there was no way to regulate the temperature of the central heating so it became a little stuffy in the cottage.

Thank you for your comments regarding your stay. I am sorry that you feel as though the property was 'stuffy' during your stay as it was the hottest week of the year so far. We did leave a manual in the welcome pack to advise on how to work the heating system and if you required any further assistance, to let us know. I'm so sorry you didn't raise during your stay so we could assist you. Property Owner

  • "We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was cosy and had everything we needed."

The owner made us very welcome with cake and eggs and we were reassured that she lives locally and would be on hand to sort out any problems. The cottage is around 10 mins walk from the centre of the village, we recommend the Golden Lion for great food and atmosphere - but book a table in advance - , also the local chip shop which is under new ownership. Being just 5 minutes off the A19 the cottage is really handy for Thirsk, Northallerton, Wensleydale, the Moors etc. But as it was getting dark by 4pm it was really good to have somewhere cosy to come back to. Our only disappointment (not the owner's responsibility!!) was that the weather was too mild for the log fire, which we never lit!! Would recommend this property and would love to go back in the summer to take advantage of the outside seating areas.

The cottage is charming, spacious and well equipped. Lovely garden with table and chairs overlooking the countryside. Great base if you like walking and a short walk to join the Cleveland Way. The centre of Osmotherley village and has three pubs. We ate at the Golden Lion which was excellent. Fiona left a cake and fresh eggs for us which was a lovely touch. Our only niggle was that the internet was a little unreliable whilst we were there and TV channels were limited though that may have been due to the hot weather.

The cottage is clean, comfortable & well equipped. The owner Fiona was very helpful & suggested a visit to Newby Hall which we all enjoyed, perfect for all ages. Thank you for your feedback. We take criticism seriously as we put our heart into the care for 1 Belle Vue. My number is provided to all guests and we ask them they let us know of any issues as we want you to have the best experience possible. We have never previously had any issues with heating highlighted by any guests. We wished you would have contacted us as we would have happily provided additional heaters for your use as well as confirmed any additional parking requirement as there is extra roadside parking to use as well as the garage. The cottage is over 120 years old so we are unable to convert the access as we wish to retain Belle Vue's original charm. Should you wish to visit again, please contact us with any concerns and we will be able to help. Kind regards Property Owner

Rose bush at front door needs cutting back. Parking on the road a bit of an issue. Did not realise there was that much woodchip wallpaper still around. Was it worth the money paid? Definitely not.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry our beds were not to your preference, we do not usually have this issue raised by our guests. The mattresses are new and specially designed for hotel use and should deliver a high comfort level. I note your comments on the ash left in the log burner, this is actually how we keep the log burner working efficiently as it is advised to leave some ash for continued use. Lastly, I'm sorry to hear you had trouble with the parking, this is advertised accurately on the listing page for our guests Property Owner

  • "I Belle Vue Osmotherley is a lovely quirky ( in a pleasant way) cottage situated just outside the village."

Its a fairly easy walk to the pubs, fish and chip shop, café and small shop of the village along a path, narrow at first but gets wider after a 100 yards or so. Pubs have decent food and lovely outside areas, there are walks you can take from straight outside the cottage door. The owners whom we spoke to and met are responsive and care about the cottage itself. Fiona's husband came round the next day with a replacement light bulb, Fiona left a cake and eggs for us ,most appreciated. Cottage was clean, tidy and as described. The upstairs lounge is a good size for 6 people, but would benefit from side/drinks tables for the chair and second sofa and the kitchen and dinning table is slightly bigger than the photographs imply. Kitchen is well equipped so cooking is a possibility . All bedrooms were lovely, beds, bedding and mattresses comfortable and despite being on a main road the double glazing works really well to keep external noise out. Our only issue, not a big one was ,that access to the side and rear garden is only through a bedroom upstairs, a bedroom shower room downstairs or the front door and up some outside stone steps. As I have said not a big issue but should be borne in mind during a period of summer rental when using the lovely private rabbit filled garden and drinking or eating al fresco. As others reviews have said the downstairs toilet is very small, its separate from but accessed through the large shower room from the downstairs bedroom and is quite tight ( it can also be accessed from outside). Parking is also tight and any large, long car requires opening of the garage to ensure the rear end does not overhang the pavement and onto the road. You can find other parking in the village and can park on the road outside the cottage however that road is busy . I expect parking in the village is difficult in summer. This is a quality cottage. Its owners care about it and have furnished it with items appropriate to its age and style. Its very clean and provides a comfortable stay. We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this is one of the nicest. If ever returning to this area Belle Vue would be our first choice. Thanks for a great stay. Fridlington family.

  • "A perfect stay!"

Located in the 'picture postcard' village of Osmotherly, the cottage was amazing and exceeded all our expectations. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and fully equipped, plus a pretty garden with tables and chairs to enjoy the sunshine and the views. The rabbits were an absolute delight as were the birds and squirrels. You can walk into the village, about 5 - 10 mins & there is a lovely village shop, a cafe & 3 pubs. We tried out all 3 (of course!) and can recommend them all, particularly the Golden Lion for evening meals (delish & not expensive). We visited Scarborough & Robin Hoods Bay (fab places) York, Northallerton, Saltburn, Helmsley, Byland Abbey (free entry), Mount Grace Priory & took the steam train from Pickering to Whitby. We'd recommend them all especially Scarborough and Saltburn. The moors are stunningly beautiful as are the walks around the area. We 100% recommend the area and the cottage. The hosts were fab, very helpful and totally lovely. To find a freshly baked cake (didnt last long!), fresh eggs and flowers were such a kind and thoughtful touch, thank you. Over the years, we've stayed in a lot of rental cottages & can honestly say this comes out on top. Add in such a lovely area with so much so close by to see and do, it WAS a perfect stay. Go, stay in Belle View too, you wont be disappointed. We'll be back!

We especially liked the lounge on the second floor which was light and cosy. Osmotherley is a lovely village with a handy shop selling basic provisions, a very nice coffee shop with fantastic cake and 3 pubs. We ate at the Golden Lion twice and would recommend. Only had a drink at the Three Tuns because, unusually for a pub it stopped serving food at 6pm - really only a lunch time pub. The village is in a great location to easily access the Moors, the Dales and the Coast and we explored all three. Also had a great day out in York which is only 40 minutes drive away (park at Rawcliffe Park and Ride). There is a lovely walk from the village to Mount Grace Priory and Cod Beck reservoir (approx. 6 mile circular). We visited Runswick bay and Whitby, Hutton Le Hole, Helmsley, Leyburn, Redmire and Castle Bolton (with a ride back on the Wensleydale steam train). Also recommend Sutton bank for cycling/walking with amazing views. The only word of warning about the cottage is that if you have a long car ( we have a Landrover Discovery), the driveway is very short and the back of the car hangs over the quite busy road so a bit precarious getting things in/out the boot. Also once parked you can't access the freezer and washing machine in the garage! This is just a small thing though - we had a great stay.

The property

1 Belle Vue is a delightful double-fronted period cottage.

Originally two cottages and a dovecote it is now an exceptionally pretty honeyed sandstone cottage with a pantile roof.

Within a short stroll of the quaint village of Osmotherley on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park this cottage is a perfect choice.

A quintessentially English cottage dating back some 200 years, this cottage is charming throughout and is decorated in a classic country style enhancing the character.

The master bedroom offers a super king size bed with an en-suite shower room to create a perfect base on the ground floor.

There are two further bedrooms on the first floor one of which has French doors leading onto the upper garden and the third bedroom has a king-size bed with a window seat taking in the lovely views of the Hambleton Hills.

The sitting room is such a cosy room with the woodburning stove at the very heart of the cottage.

Every comfort is catered for here from the two bathrooms, the woodburning stove, the secure bike store, to the lovely garden.

The garden has been cleverly planned to create various areas, all taking in the delightful views over the Hambleton Hills, the Vale of York and Arncliffe Woods.

You can while away the time sitting on one of the window seats watching the world go by, particularly walkers on one of the long distance walks which pass by here.

Osmotherley is a perfect choice for exploring this beautiful area whether your choice is walking, fishing, touring or just enjoying the beauty all around.

OSMOTHERLEY

Northallerton 7 miles; Thirsk 11 miles.

Osmotherley is a picturesque North Yorkshire conservation village, with grass and tree lined streets set on a small hillside on the western edge of the North York Moors National Park, nestling between the Cleveland Hills to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. Osmotherley is very popular with cyclists and walkers with the Cleveland Way and the Coast-to-Coast long distance footpaths passing close by and it’s also the start (or finish!) of the famous Lyke Wake Walk. Osmotherley has attractive stone-built houses centred around an old village cross with three pubs, a picturesque coffee shop, a well-stocked general store and a fish and chip shop. The nearby market towns of Northallerton, Stokesley, Helmsley, Thirsk and Ripon with its famous racecourse, have cobbled market squares, quaint little alleyways awash with cosy tearooms and lovely delicatessens, all offering excellent shopping and weekly markets.
