The nearby market towns of Northallerton, Stokesley, Helmsley, Thirsk and Ripon, with its famous racecourse, have cobbled market squares, quaint alleyways and cosy tearooms.
The historic cathedral cities of York, Ripon, Durham and Newcastle are all within an hour's drive, as is the spa town of Harrogate.
