  • "I really liked the unspoilt feel of the building, sufficiently converted for comfort without losing its character."

The wooden bolt which closes the bottom half of the door is EXTREMELY stiff. I was never sure I'd be able to open / close it. I had to keep the bottom half bolted shut to prevent the neighbours' large dog bursting in. I kept the top half open to let in more light and to air the place whenever I was in. I had to buy an elastic cord to hold the top half open (I did look round for string) as it just swung shut each time. The hard floor and leather sofa/chair is a great option for keeping the place clean as dogs are allowed but the soft furnishings have absorbed the smell of dog, especially the cushions, which a person plumps up around their back and shoulders in use and so they are in close human contact - could these be changed weekly and laundered? All you would need is two sets. I found the bed and bed linen supremely comfortable! With the hair dryer plugged in there is no mirror within reach - upstairs or downstairs. Thank you for the wine, chocolates, milk, tea and coffee, they were very welcoming. I found the oven easy to use (I have gas at home) but having to use pan lids that were too large meant the condensation from boiling etc constantly spilled over onto the the stove top. The kitchen tap splashes/drips onto the painted shelf because it is too far back from the sink. When it rained a lot of water came in through the wall and puddled on the stone window ledge behind the sink (where all the soil is) - this then seeped away somewhere over the next couple of hours! I knew to expect dogs in the shared courtyard and I am not scared of dogs. I also know you ask people to use the shared spaces respectfully. However this message might need reinforcing. My thigh was hurt and bruised by the neighbours' large boisterous dog which constantly jumped up at me when I was going in and out and they were outside with the dogs. They tried holding it by its back legs but this was not effective. I really enjoyed my stay. I make these comments not as a criticism but as helpful feedback.

Whilst we were there, we reported a strong smell of sewerage in the kitchen area and Matt called over to remedy this for us. However, it persisted and whilst not present all the time, made for an unpleasant experience at times. The cottage is well proportioned and the kitchen is spacious with lots of surface space too. The flag stone floors are a lovely focal point and the cottage was warm enough for us not to light the fire in March. The cottage we found to be grubby and in need of a thorough clean - we had to wash the crockery before we could use it. • "Good communications with the property owner before and during our stay - indeed he texted after we arrived to see that all was OK."

The only downside was the snowie weather which limited our days out but the property is very close to an Indian restaurant , Chinese takeaway and several pubs - the latter allowed our dogs in as well - plus cafes so we still had plenty to do. Would recommend this property for a couple wanting a break away.
