  • "Lovely property in a fantastic location, it looks a little unloved and could do with a spring refresher."

  • "A lovely week staying here with our dog, the property looks small from outside but once in its a large home with more than enough space and very well looked after."

Parking not an issue even though its off sight, house close to all amenities and a steam train enthusiasts dream being directly opposite the station, would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

  • "Loved the location of the house, within walking distance of everything you needed and the train decorations were exactly right for the property."

We were very comfortable and warm. Suggestions for improvements:- the mattresses need replaced in the bedrooms also the pillows they gave no support whatsoever. The tv remote had the back missing so would not work the tv in the twin bedroom. The bathroom seal had a lot of mould so we cleaned it before we could use it. Supply two keys for a cottage that sleeps six, one key is not enough.

  • "Not the best cottage so far."

Clean enough although when I stripped the beds on leaving I noticed the mattress in the back of the house was badly black mold stained. There were no booklets for instruction on how to use the cooker? Had a lot of trouble lighting the oven with out one. The kitchen tap ran constantly. One of the draw fronts , second draw down, fell off in my hand, had to get a screwdriver to try and fix it. Sofa needs more cushions.

Absolutely loved Pickering too. Considering the cottage sleeps 6 we took 2 cars. Having a parking permit for 1 car is great but would have been great if we could have paid for a weekly pass for the other car. Cooker needs some attention as takes ages to cook anything, heat comes out the top. Overall though we loved platform 2 3/4 & would definitely recommend and stay again.

30pm and left message for property manager as no wifi password. She rang back saying try router. No information where that was or who provides was. Told us it was in one of the bedrooms and info on slate in dining room, it was but was incorrect. Reset 3 times, tried 8 times, different combinations. She offered, reluctantly, to come out at 7.30pm but we had plans so she came next day at 11am. She found the correct password at back of router and switched wifi on. Her attitude was very negative rather than helpful all through. Accurate password instructions should be visible in property, details of router should be displayed, rather than having to hunt for it. Waste bin outside full, not been emptied for a month. Stairs very steep. No warning for less mobile. I use a mobility scooter and had to put in hallway as nowhere to leave it, car park being too far for me to walk to but difficult to get it up front . steps. Front door latch needs attention as swings open if not careful. Double bed at back needs replacing. Would not stay here again. Thought poor value for money.

Thank you for your feedback and comments Janet, I value all feedback, I was more than happy to come out and resolve the issue with the wifi straight away, as the code was on the back of the router, guests are free to slide the code of the WIFI router for easier access. Although as you had guests over I did not want to intrude, as you said. We will review the welcome pack and instructions thank you for pointing this out. I have checked the door and the beds, and my cleaners have also checked, everything is absolutely fine and working correctly. Property Owner

The house was warm and clean. Beds comfortable, and bedding clean and fresh. The kitchen and equipment were fine for our needs, although I feel a larger frying pan or wok with lid would be a real help when catering for 6 people. The situation of the house is ideal for railway enthusiasts, literally a 2 minute walk over the road. Our grandson spent a good deal of time morning and evening watching the trains, and absolutely loved it. We would definitely book again.

Bed were comfy, house was warm and more spacious than I thought it would be. A bit of a fusty smell that really didn’t bother us as it’s an old property. A relaxing, old fashioned environment where we all just chilled out, staying in every night after a busy day out and about the local coastal towns. We all loved it and felt really sad to leave our idyllic home from home in perfectly placed Pickering. We would love to return (out of season) again sometime. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

..the only problem is parking...1 permit is not enough for a cottage sleeping 6. Cottage is quaint but i would suggest that the owners need to consider the following improvements:- 1) ideally replace the tired bathroom.. but in particular electric shower inadequate...hand shower sprays water everywhere and bath seals need replace as mouldy 2) a dishwasher for 6 people staying 3) an extra toilet as 1 is definitely not enough when cottage is full!! 4) an outside light would be useful for the winter months especially 5) double glazing needs to be looked at as the windows had condensation in the mornings indicating that there is an issue

We had requested travel cot and high chair but on arrival, nothing had been set up. Travel cot was quickly found but high chair wasn’t delivered until the following day which meant dinner and breakfast was not exactly relaxing with a fourteen month old. The lady who was trying to find the high chair though was really lovely and tried her best. We thought the cottage was quite unclean, found a jug clump of hair on the bedside table and generally it felt like it needed a deep clean, even towel rail had a layer of dust. For me, I felt like I couldn’t properly relax. I would use Sykes again, communication prior to visit was very good but sadly wouldn’t wish to stay in this cottage again.

The parking is further than the 200 yards but still not a long way away. The cottage was very, very cold when we got there and took quite a while to warm up. We couldn’t find any heating instructions so we had to use trial and error! The front bedroom radiator was turned completely off and we couldn’t make that work at all but the person in that room likes it cold so it was fine for us, but maybe not other guests and none of the beds were that comfortable, particularly the twin beds together. The facilities were very good and we had everything we needed although we didn’t cook at all. Situated very well in Pickering town this was a warm and cosy cottage. It was clean and had a lovely roomy kitchen with plenty of space and equipment provided. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfy. There is lots of talk about the parking in previous reviews, so this is our take on it. The owner arranges free parking for one car at a nearby long stay car park - this is a 5 min walk from the cottage and you can usually walk through the station, making it a pleasant walk too. There is free night time parking across the road (6pm - 8am) during the day this is restricted, but the owner gives top tips for other free parking and at the long stay car park you can get a half price deal if you chat to the nice lady there and let her know you are part of the cottage party. If you have dogs (or toddlers or both) then be reassured that there is plenty of space downstairs and all the flooring is laminate or tiled (phew!). We loved the little nods to trains - the hearth, the dining room display and the bathroom sign were our favourites. Of course we didn't make much use of the little garden, but in the summer I can imagine it will be great space to sit and enjoy the evenings. There are plenty of walk from the doorstep, as well as good pubs and restaurants. It's half an hour drive to Scarborough, Whitby and Filey and just 10 mins to Flamingoland. All in all a great family destination. Loved it!
