We had a ride on the steam railway which was great and just over the road from the property. We visited Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay Scarborough and York. Pickering itself is a lovely place and very dog friendly. There is plenty of pubs and restaurants. There was something to do every day. We had this property last year and I'm sure we will be booking it again in the future.

Downstairs bathroom door needs shaving underneath, as it sticks when opening, also the same with the hall door. The microwave turns on, but doesn't heat up. One of the blinds in living room doesn't work. The bathroom twice when emptying was coming through kitchen light and down the wall in kitchen, it looks like it happens alot. But on the whole a perfect cottage with perfect location

Shame that some of the Picketing eateries have closed, but expect that in the climate, but enough to suffice. Great that parking permit was available for one car, we did get a second from North Yorkshire Council site for a small fee which took the hassle away from parking. Which we picked up from Malton office on way to the cottage. Great break

Very clean throughout and comfortable beds - the children loved the bath with feet! The garden is beautiful and lovely to sit out with our little dog. My son was pleased the wifi was good! Kitchen was well equipped we used the microwave and oven a couple of times and the decent sized freezer was very helpful. The open side on the stairs was a bit tricky for an elderly relative staying with us but she was fine with someone assisting for reassurance. Would absolutely recommend a stay here and we will be back - thank you.

My husband had issues with the main TV workings( may have been him or an issue). The inside could do with a little update especially with equipment in the kitchen , a bit of TLC , only from general wear & tear of holiday renting .The cottage was clean but room for improvement , the floors needed a good wash( black feet within minutes!) Excellent garden from a point of view of dogs and to relax in . A very friendly and helpful gardener . Over all good to great cottage and I do hope to visit again in the future .

  • "We booked this on a bit of a whim as noticed there was just four days available in aug."

After booking looked at the reviews which were very mixed so wasn't sure what to expect, but we had a great stay the cottage is in a fantastic location. We took 3 dogs with us so the secure garden was great they absolutely loved it, the humans enjoyed the garden also! Because it's quite a long garden its nice in the morning to eat breakfast on the patio close to the house but also in the evening to sit at the top end as it gets lovely late evening sun. It was quite hot during our stay so an umbrella would have been nice near the table as it is in full sun with no shade, and bbq would have been good because it is a nice garden to spend time in. The pictures have been updated after we booked and it does look more accurate now with regards furnishings, could do with a chair in the living room as it was a bit of a squeeze to get 5 adults on one sofa. But the beds were comfortable and the bedding fresh, clean and towels provided were nice and fluffy. Good kitchen more or less has everything you would need, just no proper grill tray in the oven? But I appreciate this won't bother some people if your not wanting to cook (lots of good places to eat very close by). Some reviews mention hamper/welcome items on arrival must say we only had a handfull of tea & coffee bags and a few biscuits so not sure if this is only done when its a special occasion but we didn't mind as we had taken a few bits with us and there is a co-op and lidl just a couple of minutes walk away. Overall would really recommend especially if your taking the family pet, above points are all very small and wouldn't be an issue for most the accommodation is comfortable and great base to explore we definitely want to return.

No nice crockery, no welcoming flowers or information on how appliances work. Dirty floors, unkempt appearance. The furniture has been changed to large ugly items. The kitchen looks the same as depicted, but does not bear close inspection. There is a TV on the wall above the fireplace with the cables coming down the wall. The garden was overgrown and full of weeds, with no comfortable garden furniture. There was no dishwasher as shown. We arrived at the property to milk, biscuits and wine which was a lovely touch. The property listing was accurate in terms of furnishings and was comfortable. The only real let down for the property was cleanliness but it was quite the let down. The downstairs shower had visible mould which resulted in a very strong damp smell in the bathroom and into the kitchen if you didn't leave the bathroom door closed. The kettle had not been cleaned in some time and was fully coated in limescale so we ended up not using it. The oven only had one shelf which fit which made cooking dinner rather difficult but there are an abundance of takeaways close by to help with this. The hard floors were dirty and we found dead bugs on several surfaces. The level of cleanliness was generally poor which was a real shame as it was a lovely property with a beautiful garden. The potential to be a great holiday stay is there, it just needs a deep clean and some minor maintenance. Overall, a nice property but needs a higher standard of cleanliness for an enjoyable stay.
