  • "We stayed at Wren`s Nest in March 2024."

Myself, wife(both pensioners) and disabled son.It was very nice of Helen to leave us a welcome pack on our arrival. (Lovely jam and free range eggs!)Parking is not a problem, either directly outside the cottage or on the road outside. The cottage is quaint and all the features, and quirkiness, you would expect from a 500 year old building. Some care is needed as a result. The cottage is well equipped with all the present day mod cons available. The location is superb with all amenities close by as well as being a great base to explore further afield. The pub is a few doors away and it`s a 15min. walk to Thirsk centre. Helen is a friendly and kind host without being over intrusive All round a lovely cottage and location and we have already recommended it to our family and friends. We would love to return someday. Thank you,Helen!

Thank you John, what a lovely review. Thanks for appreciating the quirkiness of an old cottage with its steep stairs etc. We enjoyed having you to stay and we would welcome you back any day. I hope your wife’s health continues to improve. With kindregards, Helen Property Owner

The beds were so comfortable. A basket of goodies was a nice surprise also the Christmas decorations were a lovely touch. Beautiful quiet village near to Thirsk town and supermarkets. Fish and chips around the corner was not bad either. Would recommend but not for those who can't manage steep stairs.

Thanks for your lovely feedback. So happy that you had a lovely Christmas at Wrens Nest. We’d welcome you back anytime. Happy new year Property Owner

Beautiful cottage. We aLeo loved our welcome hamper. The only thing that needs improvement would be the baby facilities as the high chair didn’t have a table connection for my son to eat off and the travel cot didn’t have a mattress so we had to use blankets for him to lay on.

  • "Great location, the village is peaceful but you are minutes away from thirsk centre, aldi tesco and lidl a 5 min drive."

20 mins from the moors and 30 mins from york and several other brilliant things to do. i will say that the cottage itself though lovely needed a couple of things replacing or fixing such as the dining table which had a very dodgy leg and some plastering in the second bedroom due to a spot of damp maybe? totally understandable consdering the age of the property but needs to be rectified as my son slept next to it and it did concern me a little. lovely touch of flapjacks, eggs and jam left for us to eat and tea/coffee facilities. beds were super comfy! very clean and tidy. all in all great base to explore north yorkshire.

Thanks for your feedback & glad you lived our cottage. The table by leg has been fixed now once you alerted me to it and we have a builder booked to repair the wall. Property Owner

  • "Lovely small cosy old cottage set back from tree lined road with wide grass verges."

Ideal for walking the dogs straight out of front door in either direction and easy attractive walk into Thirsk town centre. Historic towns, properties, and rural walks a short drive away so we had a very enjoyable holiday out and about each day. Also thanks we were allowed to extend our holiday for one day just before the holiday started.

  • "An excellent cottage."

Really comfortable, warm and clean. Exceptionally comfortable beds, including the single, with quality bed linen. Kitchen appliances easy to use, with plenty of pots, pans, basins, cutlery and crockery. Parking outside the front door was a bonus and not a problem leaving our car on the road. We were very impressed with Sowerby. It was quiet, very good pub on the doorstep, easy to travel out from and a most interesting walk into Thirsk. Thirsk was also a revelation with its range of pubs, local shops and friendly atmosphere. We shall definitely be returning.

Thanks Gaynor. So pleased you had a lovely holiday and we would welcome you back Property Owner

windows had been left open in lounge and bedroom. Had to close once in for traffic noise. Damp on twin bedroom wall believe mentioned in other reviews now seen, covered by a sheet - friends chose not to stay. Kettle is in dire need of a de-scaling. Had to pop to tesco and buy new one!

  • "This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful part of Yorkshire."

However, I would not recommend it for families with young children as the bathroom is downstairs and the stairs are very steep and uneven due to the age of the cottage and there is no stair gate. The kitchen is very small but well-equipped. Unfortunately, there was a lot of noise from 2 large barking dogs in the attached cottage. Also the twin bedroom was having work done to remedy dampness in the wall right next to the bed. However The beds are very comfortable and the cottage is full of character. We had a great holiday here.

The cottage is small but cosy. It’s got everything you need. It’s 50m from the lively local pub and a short walk into the beautiful market town. The welcome basket and flowers were a lovely touch. The owners kept in contact and made sure we had everything we needed. I recommend this as a wonderful little cottage for your break, right in the heart of North Yorkshire. Thank you Helen for your wonderful cottage. I didn’t want to leave.

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at Wren’s Nest."

Everything was lovely, and as we were told it would be. We are a family of 4 from inner city London. Our two small children loved the cottage and Thirsk & Sowerby so much, they never wanted to leave it even for day’s out! The location is superb, the cottage is clean, warm & cosy, and the owners were so lovely to check in on us to see how we were getting on. They also welcomed us with a basket of local goodies, which was the sweetest of gestures. There is parking for a small family car directly outside the cottage and the pretty market town of Thirsk is just a 10 minute walk away. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the kitchen is perfectly equipped, the bathroom has everything you need (primarily hot water!) & the sweet garden out the back is a lovely spot for morning tea. The only reason we wouldn’t recommend Wren’s Nest is because we want to keep it a secret! Thank you for such a nice stay. And thank you to Yorkshire for just being so beautiful and full of lovely people.

  • "The property was advertised as a two bedroom house."

However one room was not usable due to a significant damp problem and the presence of a dehumidifier which had to be emptied regularly. The furniture was all out of place so drawers etc .again not usable. The shower in the bath was cold to very like warm. Neither the shower nor the stairs were suitable for anyone with any physical difficulties and this should be highlighted.

I am sorry that you feel so disappointed with your stay. I made the mistake of assuming the 2 of you would be in the king bedroom. Thanks for highlighting the cottage may be unsuitable for people with mobility issues. I shall change the listing. I have privately responded and made amends. Property Owner
