  • "The property is absolutely beautiful."

Simply everything you'd need for a break. Cleanliness is outstanding. It's the most cozy cottage in the most ideal location. We had a wedding at the Old Deanery, truly a 2 minutes walk around the corner. Sainsburys is a 2 minute walk straight ahead up the dirt track road. Parking was easy no issues. My labrador dog was very cozy and loved his adventure, plenty of beautiful walks locally. Also lots of dog friendly eateries. We were an adult family of four, and it was just perfect. Teresa & Ben are the most amazing hosts and truly made us all feel so very welcome, simply wonderful people with such kind souls. Thank you both, it was a magical weekend ✨️

Aww thank you so much Julie - that is such kind feedback! I am so glad that you had a lovely weekend and we do hope that we can welcome you back again in the near future. xx Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage right in the heart of Ripon close to the beautiful cathedral but not adversely affected by it."

Parking space outside. Lots of cafes nearby and close to the river and canals for walks. Would probably not go back in the summer because the small yard at the back is very scruffy and uninviting but this might well be because of the time of year and the recent weather. The owner probably smartens it up for the summer. I wrote in the book that overall the cottage was great & ideal for us this time but more up to date local information (not just take away outlets) and a map of the town would be nice because the tourist information is closed in the winter and Smiths didn't have a local map. Also we were surprised that there was only a small one cup caffetier (sp !) although the house sleeps 4 and is advertised for 2. We never drink instant coffee (and very few people we know do from choice) so that was a small problem. We managed to overcome it by buying a tea-strainer and using a jug but not ideal.

  • "Great directions, key collection and we had no problems parking outside the property."

Met the owners either side, very friendly. Cottage was compact and bijou. Well equipped and clean. Great location just off the market square, close to lots of pubs, cafe's and restaurants. Also a few minutes walk to Sainsbury's, butchers and bakers. Great for dog walking too. My only niggle would have been the larger double bed was too soft for my liking, but just a personal preference. Also summer quilts would have been nice. My daughters quilt was a 13.5 for August.

Thank you for your lovely comments about the cottage and for advice about the duvets :-) Property Owner

  • "What a perfect little cottage."

It was exceptional clean and comfortable. Our only problem was when we couldn’t park because another visitor (not Sykes) parked a huge transit van and took up one and a half car spaces. They were very unhelpful, even though I’m 80 and friend has heart condition. We had to pay to park in car park. Future visitors should be warned.

Thank you for your feedback and so pleased the cottage itself met your needs - sorry to hear you had an issue with a neighbouring guest though. Property Owner

  • "Location of property was great."

Very clean and comfortable bed. Stairs are steep and turn at the bottom with nothing to hold onto. This cottage is not for someone with mobility issues. Also advertised as having its own parking space and only when confirmation email is received you learn its a shared space on a first come basis. In reality its a free for all. No bread knife. Also, anyone staying and making their own meals should note there is no dishwasher. We ate out most of the time but this was a bit of a niggle

  • "We had such a lovely time, location couldn't be better, cottage was well equipped and spotlessly clean."

The owner was super quick to respond to the problem with the TV (local transmitter issue), fixed in no time! Having sat outside in the good weather it would've been nice to see the baskets planted and the solar lights didn't come on, but that's a minor detail as the cottage was just lovely. Ripon is such a pretty place, will definitely be back for another visit. Thank you!

So lovely to read your feedback, thank you :-) Property Owner

  • "Property very clean."

Owner extremely helpful when we had a problem with the bathroom fan. Only downside was a cockerel that had been abandoned in the garden opposite. Being woken at 03.00. every morning was very annoying. Once again the owner tried his best to resolve this issue but it was out of his hands. Overall property perfect for a break with everything close by.

Thanks for your feedback. Thankfully the cockerel has now been rehomed to a safe place! Property Owner

  • "Such a lovely cottage and had me wishing I owned it!"

In the heart of the city yet so quiet (except of course the cathedral bells), it’s tucked away off a quaint street with very very little pedestrian traffic, and you don’t even notice Sainsbury’s is a minute’s walk away! Exceptionally clean, feels as if you are the first person to stay there. I wasn’t expecting the outside area to be secure for the dog but strategically placed planters by the owner made it a stress free area. If you want to leave the car outside the door very regular buses to Harrogate and Leeds (even on Sunday’s). A nice, easy (longish) walk to Fountains Abbey and nearby garden centre/cafe. Highly recommended!

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay! The Fountains Abbey walk from the cottage is one of our favourites too - especially on a summer's day! Property Owner

The location as well as standard of accommodation were great. A couple of things it would be helpful to know what was provided eg hairdryer, shampoo etc and to confirm that the back yard isn't secure for dogs, not that this was a problem for us We really enjoyed ourselves, Ripon is a lovely town/city and there's plenty to do

Thank you for your helpful feedback and we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay! We have tried to make the back yard as secure as possible with strategically placed, large planters which can be seen in the later photos on the Sykes website. Property Owner

It was close to all amenities including a good array of restaurants. The cottage itself was extremely clean and comfortable. It might have been a bit of a squeeze for 2 couples but was great for 3 adults. Shower was great and bathroom really good. Stairs were a little hazardous near the bottom as they turned a corner so might have been a little difficult for anybody with mobility problems or very big. Would highly recommend and would return.

  • "Our only negative comments are that the stairs are steep and this should be pointed out as anyone with slight difficulties would find them challenging."

There is also no facility for recycling or any information on where we could put it so we had to take it all home with us.

Thank you for your feedback. The steep stairs are unfortunately a reflection of the age of the property however to make the stairs more accessible we have now installed a handrail. Unfortunately the local council do not collect recycling from the cottage, however the changeover company will collect recycling along with the refuse to take to the local waste and recycling centre.
