  • "The property was beautiful, well maintained and bedding towels etc all excellent quality."

It was sparkling clean. The extras were well received. The staircase was my only concern. I feel it should have been better described. It was very steep and twisting. It's not really suitable for older or infirm people. I realise that it is what it is being a period property but infirm people could be caught out. Lovely property in a beautiful place.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I note your concerns about the staircase and as you say is quite typical of this type of property. But this is clearly described on our property summary page on the Sykes website to ensure no one is caught out when booking. We have also ensured the handrail extends from top to bottom and there is extra lighting at the top of the stairs as well. Property Owner

You can easily go along the little lanes to the beach. If you have a dog it is easy to pop out with the dog whenever needed. The cottage is well-equipped, with everything you need to cook lovely meals and a comfy bed. Thanks so much for a lovely stay.

The property is finished to a very high standard, there are wireless charging stations in the bedroom, towels and bedding are provided. The stairs are not for the faint hearted they are steep but easily assessable. The property is close to the centre of Robin hoods bay and the local amenities. We had a fabulous stay and would recommend this property to any couple liking for a quiet get away in a seaside village. Parking is at the top of the hill and a weekly permit gets you free parking in all local long stay car parks so well worth the cost. The chip shop in the centre of the village is great and I recommend Elle Estelles cafe, and the Cove for other food.

  • "Oakridge cottage is a charming little place and is a perfect retreat for relaxing, unwinding and simply just to get away from the world, makes you feel your in another time and place."

The cottage is full of charm and is simply just idyllic, the owners have refurbished the cottage to a lovely standard and thought of everything the space would allow them to. The only issue with the cottage was the banisters weren't very secure and when the stairs are as steep and winding as they were you do kind of need to use them, there wasnt any wood left for us to use on the log burner which states on the website and in the welcome book that there should of been so we had to purchase some from the local shop, i would just add that if possible the check in time could do with being made a little earlier than 4pm so that if the weather is terrible like it was for us you can get in and make yourself a little more comfortable as we feel we had lost the first day entirely by having to sit in the car all day until we could check in at 4pm, apart from those little issues the setting and the cottage was perfect and we will definitely be returning in the very near future

“Thank you very much for your feedback. We have been to the property and secured the bannister where it was loose. We have also spoken to the cleaners as you should have been left a starter pack of fuel for the woodburner. For this we can only apologise” Property Owner

The property

Mentioned in The Times 'Best Secluded beach cottages in the UK' 2023 is this quaint dwelling, Oakridge Cottage.

Oakridge Cottage is a romantic, stone-fronted fisherman’s cottage, hidden within the cobbled streets of the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay.

As you step inside the property you are greeted by the charm of the open living / dining / kitchen area, the property has recently undergone renovation and extensive modernisation whilst still retaining original features such as sash windows, beamed ceilings and wooden floors.

Enjoy quality time as you work together in the country-style kitchen to create a mouth-watering meal, as you enjoy a glass of wine listening to your favourite music through the internet radio, then get the woodburning stove going and spend the evening snuggled up with one another (perhaps with your furry friend) as you catch up on your box sets or stream a movie from the Smart TV.

Climb the traditional winding staircase up to the first floor and make yourself comfortable under the duvet, pick up your favourite book or pop on the other Smart TV and then drift away into a deep sleep.

As you wake the next morning, wander through into the shower room, place your towel on the heated rail and enjoy a rejuvenating shower.

Once refreshed and ready for the day make your way back down the staircase and enjoy a Nespresso or speciality tea.

Then pull on your boots and head out into the bustling streets of Robin Hood’s Bay where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast at the Cove Cafe before a walk to the Old Coastguard Station, a historic National Trust owned building.

Stroll along the breath-taking, all year-round dog friendly beach and stop off for a pint or two at the Smugglers Bar before heading back to the cottage for a relaxing night in with some fish and chips.

A short drive, bus ride or walk along the coastal path will take you to the nearby seaside town of Whitby where you can visit the impressive Whitby Abbey, a Gothic ruin said to have been the inspiration behind Bram Stokers famous “Dracula”.

Whilst in the area, see sights such as Whitby Beach, Whitby Lighthouse and Whalebone Arch up close, or from afar with a walk up the 199 steps for amazing views of the town.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

About the location

Robin Hood's Bay

Robin Hood's Bay, with its narrow cobbled streets and quaint cottages, is one of the most picturesque villages on the English coastline. Situated between Scarborough and Whitby, this charming old fishing village is to be found nestling at the edge of a wide sweeping bay backed by spectacular cliffs and dramatic moorland scenery, and was once home to author Leo Walmsley. All holidaymakers will love the beach and its cliff-top walks, whilst more serious walkers will enjoy the many long distance trails that pass through the Cleveland Way, the Lyke Wake Walk and the Coast to Coast walks which all take in Robin Hood’s Bay. The village amenities are superb, with charming alleyways to explore and plenty of places to rest, relax and take refreshment. A perfect base for enjoying the Yorkshire Coast.
