  • "The central heating was limited, in the beginning there was only heating from 7 - 9 am, from 4 - 6 pm and from 8 - 10 pm."

After complaining to the owner she changed the program more to our whishes, but is was still not warm enough, due to the fact that the house is rather damp.

Thank you for your feedback. Our “Welcome Pack,” provides guests with clear written instructions explaining how the boiler works and how to change the boiler settings. Guests can alter these controls at any time. We volunteered to adjust your boiler settings to meet your specific medical requirements as soon as we were made aware of your needs. We think the increase in the level of condensation you appear to have experienced was caused by the failure of the extractor fan. If we’d been told about it, it would have been mended. Our electrician has now repaired the fan and we do not foresee any more problems with this. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused you during your stay. • "A lovely cottage for a couple located in a gorgeous village on the doorstep of the moors."

We enjoyed our stay and the host was so friendly and helpful. Little touches such as leaving some tea, coffee, biscuits and milk really made a difference after a long drive. The local cafes and pubs are a two minute walk and are all great. This is a perfect place to stay if you enjoy walks as there are many good ones nearby. I think if there were one thing that we would’ve liked it would be for the mattress to be a little bit more comfy. Thank you for a relaxing break in such a pretty location.

It is the place for total relaxation and to get that feel good factor. The cottage is so well equipped, Extremely clean and comfortable. We spent hours sitting outside watching the huge variety of birds including spotted flycatchers, goldcrests, and bullfinch. On the last night the Tawny owl appeared. We will definitely return Next year. Margaret the owner is a lovely lady, On hand if needed, but I doubt you'll need anything. Margaret's place is great for a solo traveller or a couple. The front of the building is an open plan lounge, dining srea and kitchen and id light and airy with its huge window. Behind is a large bedroom with en suite shower room. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need for cooking meals and even has a dishwasher and washing machine. Parking is right outside the apartment and there is outside seating. The village has two small shops with cafes as well as a pub serving food and is right on the Moors. Last but not least, Margaret lives opposite and is both helpful and friendly. Highly reccommended. Thanks for a great week Margaret.

The cottage is in a courtyard setting with a dedicated parking space. The owner (Margaret) lives on site and is very friendly and welcoming, ensuring your stay is a good one. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped, presented very well and perfectly clean. The Sykes description is accurate and be prepared for no mobile signal as well as poor wifi signal but this did not detract from our holiday. Wonderful walks from the door as well as short drives to some excellent visitor attractions. Do you research in advance of the holiday as covid restrictions mean that tourist leaflets are not available in the cottage. • "The owner was pleasant, friendly and helpful."

The setting is beautiful. The wheels didn't turn on my car for the full 7 days. There are many beautiful walks straight from the cottage, which is just 2 minutes walk away from the pub and shops. The property consists of a kitchen / living room, and one bedroom with an en-suite. It is advertised as having a games room. Where that is supposed to be I have no idea. I agree with other feedback on several things. The bathroom is compromised, the basin tricky to use etc, but it is what it is. In the bedroom, there is only a child sized wardrobe but children are not allowed. It is just not big enough. We found it difficult to manage for 7 nights with just a small larder fridge. The pub was closed due to Covid restrictions so we took our own provisions with us, but there was nowhere to store things. It desperately needs a fridge freezer. There is no mobile signal in the property or indeed in the village so wifi is a must. It is advertised as having wifi but there is no actual router within the property. It links to the owners cottage across the courtyard and is very intermittent. It was non existent in the bedroom. All in all, a pleasant stay, but not the best value for money cottage we have stayed in.

We thank you for your helpful comments. The wardrobe has now been adapted to provide more hanging space and the larder fridge has been replaced by a fridge with a freezer compartment. The WiFi speed is the same in both cottages and is dependent on B. T. ( WiFi is slower than a cable connection ). We apologise for the incorrect information provided by Sykes Cottages in relation to the provision of a “games room.” The property has never had this facility and we have asked Sykes Cottages to correct their error. • "Fantastic location, with parking, always a plus."

Lovely cake left by owner, which was gorgeous. We only have a couple of suggestions to make, the wardrobe is a child's size, anything hung up dragged along the bottom, had to hang clothes on back of bedroom door, and the basin in bathroom is tricky to use due to the glass shelf, and the bathroom cabinet is ok if you're 6ft plus, wife could only see the top of her head.

We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at the Flour Pot, and want to thank you for your helpful suggestions. We agree that the wardrobe is a little on the small size and have provided alternative hanging space in the lounge. We are unable to alter the size of the bathroom basin as dimensions do not allow; but we have removed the glass shelf. The bathroom cabinet will be replaced, however we have provided additional mirrors to suit a variety of needs which can be used whilst either standing or sitting. Property Owner

About the location

ROSEDALE ABBEY

Kirkbymoorside 8 miles; Pickering 10 miles; Whitby 16 miles.

Situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park and handily placed for touring both the Moors and the Coast, the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey is set within Rosedale, a beautiful valley of sweeping hillsides and breath-taking views. Rosedale is surrounded by wonderful moorland countryside with footpaths and bridleways radiating out in every direction. Today, a stone pillar, staircase and sundial are all that is left of the 12th century Cistercian Priory that gave the village its unusual name. Charming stone-built cottages cluster around the village green alongside village shops, tearooms, two old coaching inns and a glass studio; which featured recently in an episode of the BBC’s “Countryfile” programme. Rosedale Abbey also has its own 9-hole golf course but for golf enthusiasts, there are a number of excellent courses in the vicinity. The bustling market towns of Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley offer a good selection of amenities, including restaurants, independent shops and markets, whilst the abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland are well worth a visit. An easy drive takes you to Castle Howard and the historic city of York whilst the coastal resorts of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough are all within reach. Guests can take a step back in time by booking a trip on the North York Moors Steam Railway at nearby Pickering, as well as learn of the area’s rich and exciting history at the Ryedale Folk Museum, which holds workshops throughout the year. Embrace the outdoors at Go Ape in Dalby forest for a truly memorable and adventurous family fun day out, or lose yourself in The Great Yorkshire Maze.
