“Flamingo Cottage is in a superb location.”
We loved Runswick Bay, a hidden gem on the Yorkshire coast. Fabulous beach, just minutes away and the views from the cottage were amazing.
It was lovely to sit out at the front of the cottage for breakfast and for drinks later! Nice little garden to the back of the cottage.
The village has a lovely friendly pub, with good food, just minutes away. Delicious ice cream, at the beach cafe.
We enjoyed walks from the cottage, on the coastal path to Staithes and Whitby. We were blessed with very sunny September weather.
The cottage was very clean for our arrival. Beds were comfortable, with lovely Egyptian cotton bedlinen. Dishwasher, woodburning stove and the Nespresso machine were an added bonus.
However, we did have a couple of problems. Key safe on arrival, was very tricky to open and we were unable to get a response for help from Sykes, or the owner.
The second bedroom is just a corridor with a bunk bed, has no space or privacy and the ladder up from this room to 3rd bedroom was very tricky and difficult to negotiate (even for agile twenty somethings!)
Despite booking what we thought was a two bathroom, two shower property. The only working shower is in the master bedroom en suite. Great shower for the first 2 people! but then the hot water runs out. No clue as to how to reheat the water for persons 3 and 4, they had to suffer a cold shower, or wash later!
The parking situation is a pain, someone has to feed the meter with coins (£6 per day) every morning, because there is no phone signal in the village the text or phone options on the parking machine, do not work. On speaking to other holiday makers, most owners give a resident parking permit with the rental.
Apart from this, we had a most wonderful time in Runswick Bay and will definitely return.
