  • "Lovely peaceful plot."

The caravan is of a high standard.

  • "We arrived to find that the lodge we had booked had not been cleaned since the previous occupants had left."

We had to wait in the car for Sykes to return my call to offer us another lodge. The new lodge had been cleaned but the two settee's had a strong smell of dog to them. Finally, it took around three days to get hot water to both tap and shower in the en suite.

We are sorry your stay didn’t live up to expectations. You made a booking late notice and unfortunately the cleaning team we’re not able to prepare it in time. We swiftly offered you an identical alternative, again sorry for the inconvenience and we thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The lodge is well designed."

The beds are very comfortable with lovely bedding. Unfortunately the weather was awful during our stay only one afternoon when my husband and granddaughter managed to get to the beach. As for me, with limited mobility, I would find getting to the beach almost impossible. We visited Renwick Bay hotel a few times for dinner and were not disappointed.

Many thanks for your positive feedback. Property Owner

  • "Outside area not very clean"

We can only apologise that you were not happy with the outside area. We do endeavour to make sure everything is cleaned ready for arrival, however the lodges are in a enclosed wooded area with lots of wildlife. We hope you can visit us again in the future. Many thanks. Property Owner

  • "The accommodation was very good and reasonably well equipped."

We did notice that the electric fire did not work (ongoing issue according to previous reviews) but we did not need to use it due to the warm weather and the central heating works well. Our only real complaint if you can call it that, is that the price when we stayed for the same week in 2020 was £509, this year it was £839 - some might suggest profiteering from the effect of Covid on domestic holidays! My concern would be for the future tranquility of the site due to what looks like the setting up of a camp site for about 30-40 pitches in the field in front of the lodges. The campers would have to walk close by to access the toilet and shower block which could be an issue.

  • "Absolutely beautiful lodge and extremely comfortable for a family of 4."

Having the en-suite bathroom was such a bonus. Great location with only a short walk to the beach and really peaceful setting. Lovely pub to eat next to it as well. Cannot recommend this lodge enough.

    Thank you.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

Lodges was great. Couple of things - the shower in en suite didn’t work properly and it would be really helpful to gave a gate on the side of the decking to stop the dog from escaping!

  • "Spent a lovely week in Holly Lodge."

It was clean and well presented, even had a litre of milk in the fridge (long life) though did not use as brought out own but was a nice touch along with coffee/tea and crisps. A vacuum cleaner would have been useful as we have a dog, found instructions for one and an attachment but no vacuum! The extractor in the en-suite bathroom was not working, not a problem to us as left window open a little but might be a problem long term. As in previous reviews the electric fire was not working. Flame comes on but no fan heater. Central heating worked perfectly though once I found the thermostat behind the door. Only needed it one evening. The Runswick Bay Hotel at entrance to park site, does lovely food though be prepared for a wait for food coming!

  • "We had a lovely time at the Holly Lodge in Runswick Bay."

Comfortable accommodation with a lot of space and storage. The walk-in wardrobe in the master suite is huge! There is plenty of outdoor space and the view is lovely. Runswick Bay is a lovely place to visit, but the hill to the beach is very steep. If you have mobility issues you will struggle. That said there is a car park half way down, but get there early. The area is also missing a play area for children, however, we travelled to Whitby etc. and used the parks there.

  • "Lodge was in the perfect spot, very peaceful and very handy but there were a couple of issues."

The fire in the lounge did not work and the en-suite toilet had a leak. Other than that would recommend the site and the area and would definitely go back.

  • "Overall we had a good time and it's worth mentioning that the owner, James, responded very promptly and in a very friendly way when we contacted him directly on the Saturday morning regarding some issues."

Based on Sykes recommendations, we took several items from home - pans, sharp knives, rubber gloves. If Sykes knew about these minor shortcomings why weren't the issues rectified. A particular example of a bigger issue is the flame effect electric fire, which was mentioned as not functioning in a review from a Mrs Tetley in April 2021.This had not been rectified and the owner claimed to have no knowledge of the issue. Facilities were between satisfactory and good but there is not a grading option for this. We found the general information and instructions eg. WiFi TV and heating unsatisfactory. The WiFi had had a change of password but the old password was still on display. We were unable to watch TV on the Friday evening because the remote control wasn't working. James was able to solve this issue on the Saturday morning by verbally instructing us on how to bypass the problem. Unfortunately he had to pay another visit on the Monday morning to sort the TV out again. At the same time he delivered a vacuum cleaner as there wasn't one and we were expected to leave the place as we found it. Again he wasn't aware of this absence. Finally, James helped us to operate the heating and hot water systems. Again this is another example of lack of instructions. We hope our comments will prove helpful

  • "We enjoyed our holiday and the lodge was lovely and nice quiet setting."

There were just a couple of points to mention, the en suite toilet had a leak, the fire didn't work and the tables and chairs outside could have done with a better clean but overall it was very enjoyable.
