  • “Amazing”

We visited in June 2018 for short break. Cannot praise it enough. The owner left us a welcome tray including wine, fresh coffee and biscuits. The lodge smelt new as was only 6 months old and it had every home convenience you ever wanted, and beautifully decorated. The master bedroom had a walk in wardrobe and an amazing en suite, and the twin room also had en suite. It was peaceful and near to places to visit including Staithes and Whitby. Fantastic break well done Christine xxx

Runswick Bay Lodges

Situated in the charming village of Runswick Bay, regarded as one of the Yorkshire Coast’s prettiest destinations, the Runswick Bay Lodges are ideally located for enjoying all the beauty of the coast and the North York Moors National Park. The lodges are both beautifully decorated and furnished to a high standard, featuring modern bathrooms and fully-equipped kitchens, as well as outdoor decking areas, perfect for alfresco entertaining, and two private parking spaces. Just a short walk away is the village centre of Runswick Bay, a collection of red-roofed cottages, tucked away behind the cliffs overlooking the golden beach below. A traditional and quiet fishing village, no cars are allowed within the centre, instead you will find a labyrinth of narrow lanes and a distinct lack of the usual tourist shops, in favour of pleasant pubs and tearooms. A mix of sand and stone, Runswick Bay Beach is a popular destination for families, sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts. Wander along the beach and take note of the Hob Holes, small caves in the cliffs where hobgoblins were supposed to live, explore the many rock pools, or search the beach rubble for fossils. If the kids still have the energy, there is a large paddock perfect for a kick around subject to the owner’s permission. The long distance walking path, Cleveland Way, passes through Runswick Bay offering plenty of walking opportunities and you will find two pubs within easy walking distance and a few local shops, including the all-important chip shop, all very close. With the spectacular North York Moors to explore and the bustling seaside town of Whitby within easy reach, these properties have something for everyone.

About the location

RUNSWICK BAY

Staithes 2 miles; Whitby 9 miles; Saltburn-by-the-Sea 10 miles.

Runswick Bay, with its narrow cobbled streets and quaint cottages, is one of the gems of the East Coast. This picturesque old fishing village, situated 9 miles from Whitby, nestles in a small bay, backed by spectacular cliffs and moorland scenery. The village is unspoilt and uncommercialised, with cars restricted from the village, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. Holidaymakers will enjoy exploring the cobbled, twisting alleyways, the lovely sandy beach - well known for fossil hunting - and the cliff-top walks, including the Cleveland Way. The village houses three local inns, all serving food, and one tea room, whilst nearby Hinderwell provides a village shop, fish and chip shop and a butchers. There is much to do in the local area, whether it's visiting seaside towns such as Whitby, with its famous Abbey, or touring the dramatic North York Moors.
