  • "Thanks Louise for our lovely stay at Lobster."

It has the most comfortable bedding, the fluffiest towels and you make the best fresh fruit tart which was much appreciated and enjoyed. We will return - thanks again.

  • "We have just returned from a wonderful week at Lobster Lodge."

This was by far the cleanest and best maintained holiday rental we have stayed in (and we have stayed in a fair few across the country). There was a lovely hamper and card from Louise and Terry in the lodge when we arrived, and halfway through the week they dropped off a homemade fruit tart which was absolutely delicious! The lodge itself has everything you need for a really comfortable stay. We wouldn’t hesitate to book and stay here again, it was fantastic.

Thank you so much Helen for such a positive review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your holiday in Lobster Lodge and look forward to maybe welcoming you back in the future... Best wishes Louise & Terry Property Owner

  • "We holiday almost exclusively in the UK (mostly in South Pembrokeshire) with our aging Boxer dog Niah."

This is only the second time we have booked through Sykes Cottages and our first stay in a lodge. Our first experience of Sykes Cottages was less than positive but that was the fault of the properties owners / hosts. The rating for Sykes Cottages above is based on a combination that previous experience and our latest booking at Lobster Lodge. Our stay at Lobster Lodge could not have been more of a contrast to that first booking through Sykes. The lodge is a credit to the owners and worthy of the five star rating we have given. It sits in a small gated community with 12 similar properties. It is immaculately presented, spacious and comfortable with more than a hint of luxury about it. Our host was incredibly attentive to our needs and generous with her time. The welcome pack was thoughtfully put together and included treats for both us humans and our fury friend. Midweek, we were even gifted a truly delicious home made fruit flan and, she will even supply locally caught, dressed lobster at a very reasonable cost. As a couple we wanted for nothing in terms of accommodation and hospitality. However, there are a couple of aspects of the Lodge to be aware of if visiting with a dog. The raised deck around the property is a superb, well maintained, outside space for humans, with comfortable furniture. However, if the sun shines, the decking itself becomes very hot. This could be an issue for a dog. We have a raised travel bed which works well. Also the small amount of green space belonging to the lodge, is insecure, so if visiting with a fury companion their needs have to be more closely managed than perhaps would otherwise be the case. Other things worthy of mention. In terms of provisioning, consider having a delivery upon arrival. We chose Tesco but we also saw an Asda van on site. The nearest convenience store is a Co Op on the outskirts of Staithes, a 5 - 10 minute drive. Once in Staithes though a visit to the Whitby Crab Company at Unit 2, Whitegates Close, Staithes, TS13 5BB, is an added bonus. Fresh dressed crab, up with the best we have had. Beyond that the nearest supermarkets are on the outskirts of Skelton on the A174, a drive of around half an hour. Lastly, we are in our mid 60s and like to walk, but for various health related reasons are no longer able to hike / trek. The two routes from Runswick down to the Bay are short but very steep. Much steeper than we anticipated, we found them both prohibitive. One local told me the gradient was 1 in 3 and I believe it, Google Earth does not do them justice! Alternatively, the walk from the Lodge to the Cleveland way is a leisurely 10 minute stroll and if you turn NW towards Stathes it is reasonably gentle with stunning vistas until Port Mulgrave. At that point the less able might turn back as we did. For a beach walk, Sandsend to Whitby at half tide is well worth the effort, about 6 miles there and back. Overall, we highly recommend Lobster Lodge if you want a comfortable, relaxing, base to explore the North Yorks coast, whilst being looked after by a warm, friendly, host, who genuinely wants you to have the best experience. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Thank you so much for such a positive review ...it was lovely to meet you both & the beautiful Niah. We're so happy that you enjoyed your stay in Lobster Lodge and hopefully we can welcome you back in the future. Kind regards Louise & Terry Property Owner

A lovely quiet spot and beautiful views over the hills. Well placed for walks to Staithes and Sandsend, returning via excellent bus service ( which also took us to Whitby and Saltburn) Would recommend Whitby Museum, something for everyone; St Mary's Church; also fish and chips near Saltburn Pier. Not forgetting Fortune's kippers. Thank you Terry and Louise for being such great hosts.

  • "A great almost halfway house for both our families to meet."

The cottage was great base for exploring - North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Saltburn, Whitby, Scarborough, Hole of Horcum... The Ellerby Inn was brilliant, definitely worth a trip out. Lobster Lodge was brilliant for all of our family and because the weather was kind, we managed to use the decking for meals especially as it had sunshine all day long!!! A fantastic stay, thank you we loved it.

  • "Lobster Lodge is truly lovely."

It is well equipped, good quality furnishings, has more than enough storage and most importantly, comfy beds! The welcome basket, including treats for our dog, was a lovely touch and the mid-week fruit tart was delicious! This was our first visit to Runswick Bay and hopefully it won't be our last. Lobster Lodge at The Pines (which is an extremely quiet site) is the perfect base for exploring the East Coast between Saltburn and Robin Hoods Bay, each only being a short drive away. When we return, I would happily rebook to stay at Lobster Lodge; if I was to list any negatives, I would really be nit-picking! Thanks for providing such lovely accommodation.

  • "Beautiful lodge in a very lovely part of the world."

The lodge was incredibly well equipped, and maintained to a very high standard. The wrap around decking is fabulous, and on a sunny day there is ample space to relax with the family. The kitchen is well resourced, with plenty of good quality pots, pans and utensils. Lots of love for the fantastic American style fridge-freezer, and super fast toaster! :) Special mention has to go to the bunk bedroom - a massive hit with our 10 year old. Such a wonderful space :) The water pressure is superb so the showers are hot and powerful. Plenty of parking, with enough space to house two cars comfortably. The lodge is dog friendly, and our black lab loved it. And, unlike alot of dog friendly places, the standard of cleanliness and quality of the furnishings has not been compromised; it's very clean, and well maintained. Terry and Louise clearly look after their property and are close by if you need anything, including the delivery of a very delicious mid week treat! :) We had a lovely week at Lobster Lodge, even though it rained. Alot. We'll definately be back soon :)

  • "We had a fantastic week at Lobster Lodge over Easter."

We have stayed at The Pines before in a different lodge so we knew what to expect and Lobster Lodge was perfect for our needs. The children loved the bunk bedroom and I found the beds really comfy and the lodge was always lovely and warm despite the cold and rain outside! Huge sofa in the lounge so plenty of space and the kids loved the games and jigsaws that were in the lodge. It would have been nice to have things like tea, coffee, sugar, cling film and tin foil provided. We did get a lovely hamper when we arrived but this would have been a useful touch. The hoover in the property didn't work which isn't ideal when we had a dog with us and we also found a false nail in the bathroom and some dried contact lenses on the floor in the bedroom so I would have liked to run the hoover round myself! There were tupperware lids but no boxes which would have been useful for when we took a picnic out with us but again we made do. The kitchen units were a bit clunky to open but we got the hang of it. The door tread in the bathroom was loose and the shelf in the childrens room wasn't secure and fell off whilst we were there! Overall just a few minor touches which could easily be fixed and wouldn't put us off a return visit. We would love to come back to the lodge again!

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you had a lovely stay and Easter family break. Thank you for bringing the above points to our attention. As you know this is self catering accommodation, we did provide an Easter themed Hamper and we also have a coffee machine and coffee pods left for you. We will look into getting some more Tupperware’s for the lodge. The hoover was working however it just needed charging, but we apologise if the cleaner missed something. We have now fixed the shelf and door tread- thank you for bringing this to our attention- If you had contacted YCC during your stay they would have arranged for these to have been sorted at the time. Thank you for your feedback, we have taken it all on board and we hope to welcome you again soon. Property Owner

The historic fishing village of Runswick Bay is without doubt one of the true gems of the Yorkshire Coast, if not the whole of the UK. This picturesque SE-facing village situated 9 miles from Whitby sits in a beautiful sheltered sandy-beached bay backed by spectacular cliffs and moorland scenery. Relatively un-commercialised and with vehicular traffic restricted, the village provides the perfect setting in which to relax and unwind. Relish in taking long walks on either the sandy beach or along the Cleveland Way on the clifftop above. There is much to do in the local area, whether it's visiting Whitby with its famous Abbey, Staithes with its pretty shops, cafes and superb art gallery, or touring the dramatic North York Moors. The lower village houses a local inn serving food along with a spectacularly situated cafe, whilst nearby Hinderwell provides 2 inns, a fish and chip shop, a local butchers and a garage/petrol station. A Co-op is situated at Staithes 2 miles away.
