  • "Lovely lodge enjoyed our stay."

Only criticism is the shower in the main bathroom had no control for the temperature it was either freezing or scolding hot

Many thanks for your positive review, The issue has been dealt with and we hope to welcome you again soon. Property Owner

It’s position is tranquil and perfectly placed to explore the East coast. We would definitely return.

  • "Comfortable, clean lodge in a superb position close to the cliff top footpath and walking distance to the wonderful beach at picturesque Runswick Bay."

Beware, the walk back up the bank from the beach is a test of your fitness! The lodge was well equipped with everything we needed. Good oven and large fridge freezer. Excellent beds and efficient shower. The outside photographs on the site description need updating. There is no longer a wooden seat near the lodge and a large wooden fence has been erected a few yards from the decking. The fence is shielding a footpath that has been created to the toilet facility from the camping area which is in the process of being created, I presume for the coming season. This may be a drawback for anyone looking for total peace and quiet. Peace and quiet is certainly was certainly our experience during a week of wonderful weather, excellent for the time of year. Would definitely stay there again.

Many thanks for your positive review. The footpath has been put in place for access to next door, Paddock lodges are owned by the same company as the adjacent holiday park. It’s roughly half a mile entrance to entrance the path has been installed for quicker access to our linen and cleaning storage facilities. There was a pop up campsite for last season in the field across the way but this was only allowed through covid. Many thanks and we hope to see you again Property Owner

  • "We found the electric fire didn’t work, or at least we couldn’t find how to work it."

This isn’t a criticism more a note to the owner. We were fine as we used the heating instead.

  • "This was our third visit to Maple Lodge in the last 3 years."

The first two visits were when Christine was the owner when the lodge was in spotless condition and beautifully presented. We were concerned that this standard would not be matched by the new owners. However, we need not have worried. Again Maple Lodge was in spotless condition and beautifully presented. The new owners clearly look at feedback from users and we can report that there were new glasses, crockery and cutlery. Highly recommended. We shall certainly return in 2022.

  • "Maple Lodge was excellent and had everything you could want and good location."

Easy to get to visit other places, Whitby, Scarborough, Saltburn, Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes and more. Food at The Runswick Bay Hotel was first class. We had a brilliant week.

  • "We were very happy with accommodation BUT what was provided for the kitchen was poor."

There were no casserole bowls for the oven so we had to get one. There was ONE champagne glass and only 4 wine glasses. There were 5 bowls one with a chip and 5 plates .One of the saucepans was rusty so we couldn't use it so that made us short of saucepans. We had to clean black dog hair off the carpet too.

  • "The lodge is in an amazing position right on the Cleveland Way Coastal walk and just minutes walk from the beach at Runswick Bay."

It is fully equipped and way exceeded our expectations. Lots of storage/wardrobe space to accommodate the ridiculous amount of things we had taken, and a full size Fridge/freezer which I hadn’t expected either. I had to contact Sykes cottages with a query beforehand and the call was answered quickly and dealt with which was great. Would definitely recommend this lodge and using Sykes to book your trip.

About the location

Staithes 2 miles; Whitby 9 miles; Saltburn-by-the-Sea 10 miles.

The historic fishing village of Runswick Bay is without doubt one of the true gems of the Yorkshire Coast, if not the whole of the UK. This picturesque SE-facing village situated 9 miles from Whitby sits in a beautiful sheltered sandy-beached bay backed by spectacular cliffs and moorland scenery. Relatively un-commercialised and with vehicular traffic restricted, the village provides the perfect setting in which to relax and unwind. Relish in taking long walks on either the sandy beach or along the Cleveland Way on the clifftop above. There is much to do in the local area, whether it's visiting Whitby with its famous Abbey, Staithes with its pretty shops, cafes and superb art gallery, or touring the dramatic North York Moors. The lower village houses a local inn serving food along with a spectacularly situated cafe, whilst nearby Hinderwell provides 2 inns, a fish and chip shop, a local butchers and a garage/petrol station. A Co-op is situated at Staithes 2 miles away.
