  • "Really enjoyed our weekend in the cottage."

Very clean and fresh-looking. Only myself and my daughter staying, so plenty of space with a room each. Nice view of Whitby from the living room. View from the kitchen and bedroom not so good, as cottage is only about 10m from the side of a garage repair shop, however this wasn't much of a problem for us. Only 5 minute drive to Whitby, or 30 minute walk on nearby cinder track.

Pleased you enjoyed your stay thank you for your feedback Property Owner

  • "This property should not be classed as dog friendly."

There was no secure garden . and you had to share what you had with the other property. Another problem was the parking, cars everywhere from the garage at the side of the property. The property it self was fine.

Thank you for your feedback we have spoken to garage and told them not to. Park and block people in the garden is shared as all one property we have put in new smart tv and new WiFi Property Owner

  • "The beds were so uncomfortable, none of were able to get a good nights sleep."

The description of the parking situation was quite inaccurate, particularly regarding how close to the main road and each time a truck went passed the house shook!! Landlord communications were poor, I telephoned before arrival with a query and am still awaiting a response. We are disappointed.

  • "Extremely clean and modem annex."

Lots of space and everything you need to hand. A 40 min walk to Whitby itself or 5 mins in a car. Also on a bus route. The cynder path runs at the back so you can use that too (an hours walk) it would benefit from WiFi but the 4g signal was good on O2.

  • "Cottage is excellent."

Great location, with a very pleasant walk to whitby along the cinder track. Our only complaint is that the bed is broken and clearly has been for some time. Horrendously uncomfortable and sadly the only negative of the entire holiday.

  • "Much smaller than the photos suggest, 4 adults would have been very cosy downstairs."

That said, location is excellent with good access to amenities. Shared garden to the front could do with making secure to allow dogs and children to roam free. Access from the extremely busy main road was made difficult due to the shared access with garage. It is worth mentioning Sarah, the housekeeper, who was extremely helpful when we reported an issue with the outside drains blocking, which stopped us being able to exit the property. Sarah gave assurances that the owners would sort this so it shouldn’t be an issue for others.

  • "The stairs are very steep for an 81 year old like myself."

The child gate at the bottom of the stairs is a serious trip hazard as it covers the bottom step. The property can only be accessed via the garage forecourt. This is made more difficult when the adjoining property 3 vehicles ,which they are perfectly entitled to have. We were only able to watch TV for 3 of the nights, the picture broke up constantly asking us to re-tune it. We rang the contact number that you provided but got no response. I have been happy with dealing with you in the past but I can't see a reason why I should book a property with you again.

  • "Really enjoyed the stay."

FYI The garden is a shared garden but it's not secure if you're bringing pets and young children.Would be nice to have seating outside. Its on a main rd but not noisey.Would be nice to have a little welcome pack. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a biscuit. Just to tie you over. Abit difficult I know due to covid. Would i stay there again.....yes.

  • "A fantastic place to stay."

We did book this on the last minute and Sykes were fantastic sorting everything out. If you want to stay somewhere a bit more quiet this is the place. Only 2 miles from whitby centre so we walked there. The annexe has everything you need and was spotless.

It would have been nice to have a welcome pack though with just a few essentials such as milk and bread. We were disappointed that the wi-fi had been taken out of the cottage for some reason but other than that we had a lovely week. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy.

  • "I found Sykes as a company good at communicating even a little over eager (too many pre trip emails)."

Its the description of the accommodation that let the experience down. WIFI is a big issue with us as i am sure other travelers but the WIFI is shared in this property and whilst day one was passable day two (when the other half of the house was occupied) you could pick up nothing, not even a weather app. I would say in that respect that the ad was misleading. The listing also gives the impression of a village location not on the main road with at times very busy traffic, this is a consideration for people like us with small children. next door too had young ones and i witnessed their toddler walking towards the road after the door was left open i was about to intervene when his father came running out. This property is yards from a main road and people need to know. I got a call a few days in from Sykes, evidently the other side hadn't been cleaned adequately but your representative called me rather than them, i said i had no complaints other than the wifi, he said he would look into it and yet we heard nothing. This rental was cheap by our normal standards, we wanted a short break with no frills and i wasn't expecting extravagance BUT i would expect to get what is advertised. Will i use Sykes again? maybe but i would do a lot more research myself rather than relying on your details.

  • "No WiFi. Tv had no reception."

Luckily my dad got it set up but those two things are an expectation. Dead flies everywhere

Thank you for your feedback. Sorry for the issue with the WiFi, this was a local error which was caused by BT carrying out work in the area, which we were not made aware of. The TV required re-tuning due to a channel update from the provider. As a precaution we have fumigated the loft area to prevent any more flies. These have now been rectified. Hope this did not impact on your stay. Many thanks. Property Owner
