  • "Booked "Esk View" for a Birthday treat, "Steampunk" Weekend and "Valentine's retreat."

Well equipped kitchen, bedrooms nicely laid out, all area's spotless and no problem with parking. The view at the back is stunning with the "River Esk" and the Railway Line which trains run regularly on a daily basis. Watch out for the cheeky ducks looking for their breakfast in the morning. Perfect for "Whitby" and surrounding areas, Would recommend to other and would return.

Cleanliness exceptional. Generously and tastefully equipped. The Yorkshire goodies in the tin were very much appreciated, they were delicious. Location perfect of course with the railway and the river, although we suffered from an unusual (English standards) number of insect bites / stings. Due to the standing water of the river when the tide is in? View of the changing water levels and the ducks very entertaining. Not to forget: Good parking facilities. Not quite so good: Fridge too small and uncomfortably low. Kitchen table too small, for the two of us just about manageable, but what if four persons were attending?

Positioned in an unloved looking close the only plus was a pleasant rear aspect overlooking the river, nice to see the ducks and trains although the ducks made a filthy mess due to the fencing being very poor. The accommodation was clean and adequate although the lounge area was very spartan with an old and very uncomfortable settee certainly not relaxing at all. This cottage is far from being an idyllic retreat and grossly overpriced at near £1000.

We enjoyed sitting on the deck in the evening. Good flat 1.5 mile walk into Whitby, we used the busses to go up and down the coast. During our stay the local pub wasn't serving food in the evening, this changed on our last night. The only down side was the creaking floorboards upstairs but this didn't affect our week away. We really enjoyed the area and will probably return.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Esk View."

Comfortable beds with good linen and a lovely hot shower over bath. The kitchen was well equipped but I would rather have had a dish washer than a washing machine which we didn't need. Unfortunately the previous occupier was not too thorough with the washing up, so I wasn't happy to have to clean things before using them. The only real disappointment was the extremely tiny fridge. It was too small which meant I had to shop more or less on a daily basis, not what I wanted to do on holiday. Other than that, a great location with a pleasant walk into Whitby via a cinder path next to the railway line at Ruswarp.

brilliant stay. Couple of points, It would benefit with a half Freezer to use ,instead of tiny fridge compartment, and also the Sofa seats were so worn flat, and low down they became uncomfortable after a bit and difficult to get up from . Bathroom door needs attention , as very noisy to close and try to lock , ok in the day , but a pain in the middle of the night if your trying not to disturb others.

Patio overlooking river, good for watching ducks. You can also see steam trains passing. Only downside of patio is a bit of road noise but this didn't spoil my enjoyment. Good off road parking for two cars. The only slight negative is the sitting room seating which is a massive corner couch which neither my partner or I found comfortable and there was no alternative. On the whole a very well set up holiday cottage for a couple or a small family.

The cottage was lovely and clean and comfortable with all the amenities that are needed. Great patio area with seating and lighting that overlooks the river and railway line. There is a café in the village overlooking the river, great place for a snack or light meal, also serves limited alcoholic drinks. Found a footpath into Whitby along the side of the railway line, its a flat walk that takes about 20 mins. Happy to recommend a stay at the property, added bonus of private parking, which is rare in Whitby.

  • "Very warm and comfortable cottage with good parking."

We loved the new kitchen and the new bedlinen. To make the kitchen even better, we suggest some cups and saucers, a sieve, and a good sized kitchen knife. Sadly the settee in the sitting room is very ugly and uncomfortable especially if you have a bad back. Why not replace it with smaller settees, put the dining table in the sitting room and that would leave room for a dish washer in the kitchen.

The daily passage of steam powered trains was very nostalgic especially as they passed within yards of the kitchen window. Having stayed in several cottages we found that a comment book for visitors was useful. Desirable information such as good places to eat, interesting places to visit and nice walks were passed on. However, this is the first time this was not available and although we found our way around such information would have been appreciated on first arriving. There is a lot of wildlife to watch as you relax with your glass of wine on the decking and stones to sit on to cool your feet in the river. Outside, an enclosed south facing decked patio has gated access to the river, a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the abundance of wildlife on the river - herons, kingfishers and cormorants are amongst the frequent visitors, along with seals that are regularly seen swimming upstream!

With the added benefit of a boat landing, guests are able to bring canoes and kayaks.

Just across the river lies the Esk Valley railway line, a superb vantage point to watch the steam trains that regularly pass by in the summer months.

Ruswarp village has excellent facilities, including a renowned butcher's, a local inn serving real ales and food and boating on the river.

Children will enjoy a ride on the miniature steam railway and Mini Monsterz soft play centre can while away a wet afternoon!

A nearby public footpath provides a pleasant twenty minute walk into Whitby, with its narrow cobbled streets, long sandy beaches and famous abbey.
