  • "We didn't feel like it was pet friendly."

Property description says 'Two well-behaved dogs welcome' however the instructions on arrival stated that dogs could not go upstairs. Most dogs can not be left alone downstairs when all the living area and bedrooms are upstairs. The house was lovely, very smart, tidy and well equipped. Bedrooms and bathrooms superb. The only worrying element was the surrounding properties which seemed to be filled with some very dubious characters drinking through the night, banging and arguing. Police turned up in numbers twice whilst we were in the property! However they didn't bother us (other than the noise) they seemed to keep themselves to themselves. Overall though a really good place and well equipped, thanks to the owner. :-)

  • "We rented Castle View for a family holiday, adults and older teenagers."

We were very lucky with weather and had sunshine every day, truly Scarbados! Pros The house is very well maintained and decorated in a lively style, including Impressive kitchen disco lighting! There's a washing machine and dryer on the ground floor. The beds were comfortable and three toilets/bathrooms was good for our group size - nine people. The living room was large and comfortable. The owner came to fix a problem with the shower and he was helpful and easily reachable by phone. Parking was good, we had two tickets and always had a space pretty close to the house. Guests should be aware that they need to fill in a new parking scratchcard every day. Things to imrove The wifi signal was poor and not good enough to watch anything on TV streaming services. The owner reset the router, but it didn't improve matters. It would be helpful to have up-to-date info on rubbish collection times - the ones in the house folder were about 10 years old and the bins were already very full at the start of the week. It's a big property with plenty of space, but it is over four floors so lots of stairs. Bear this in mind if the group includes young children or people with mobility issues! The property has a small yard leading out to a back street, but the house lacks an outside area where you can sit in good weather. Neighbours/ local area The area is within easy walking distance of the town centre, seafront, and supermarkets. The train station with a good connection to York is very near and that's also where you'll find the bus stops for the service connecting Scarborough with other tourist attractions on the coast like Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby. Prospective clients should be aware that the area is not the best. Other properties in the crescent are not in good condition, and the police are regularly to be seen in the area. The neighbours on the right side (from the street) had regular arguments in the evening/night that kept some of our party awake at night. The house on the other side is being renovated and workmen were making a noise all through the Easter weekend, including from seven in the morning. Overall, we had a great time in Castle View. We wanted to be in the town centre and that's what Castle View offers. As said, It does have some disadvantages in terms of the neighbours and local area.

  • "Fantastic property, just as pictured and described."

We have meet ups a few times a year with all our uni friends, new spouses, dogs and the baby, and this property housed us all comfortably, without feeling like we were all on top of each other or there were random beds everywhere. This is just a large comfortable house, maintaining great common areas alongside the bedrooms. Wonderful dining and living room for a large group, helpful baby gates at the stairs to help contain both the dog and baby, and great facilities in general. Ample bathrooms and toilets, two large fridges, great oven, dishwasher etc. Also appreciated the salt, oils, sauces, milk etc which meant we didn't have to buy anything extra. Small but completely secured courtyard for the dog, and so close to the high street. We didn't realise how close we were but we were just round the corner. Struggled to sleep the first night as the neighbours were having a rave, but I suspect they were squatters or temporary tenants as they were never letting the door close etc. I informed the host the next day and he said he was going to inform the neighbouring property's owner. I can't see it being a problem going forward but just to be aware there are neighbours if you have a light sleeping party. Host was just great in general. Super helpful with information and helping out with parking permits. We're not from the area and mucked up a couple, but he was great with instructions and letting us have a couple free with the house. Really easy to speak to and never made us feel awkward messenging. Would recommend in a heart beat and if we're ever back in Scarbs, we'll be booking again. Really genuinely enjoyed the property and the whole experience. Thanks!

  • "The house is absolutely stunning, you couldn’t want for a better house."

The welcome package was really lovely, my little boy loved the cookies and it was such a lovely touch when we arrived. The mattresses are the best I’ve ever slept on whilst staying away from home. However, the area that the house is in isn’t ideal for a young family, whilst trying to put my little boy and girl down to sleep there was a party going on next door from 9 until about 6 the next morning, music playing and shouting all night long, it was so bad a member of our party actually had to leave as they didn’t get to sleep. Now this might be fine for a group that’s also partying but we have very young children snd were celebrating a 70th birthday so it just didn’t work for us. It’s such a shame as the house is so so lovely but I wanted to be honest as this really spoilt it for us.

The host was responsive when we messaged with queries. Parking was much easier than we thought it would be. The only negative is that the garden is a very small paved space but there is a gas BBQ. Also there are a lot of stairs if you have anyone with mobility issues. But these are just minor things and I would highly recommend for large family or friend gatherings.

It’s located less than a minute walk from the main shopping centre. the living room area was comfortable with big sofas and a good view of the crescent. the house is close to all the amenities that Scarborough has to offer without feeling that you are in the city centre, high quality double glazed units provide light and sound proofing but keep the style of a turn of the century property. The kitchen equipment is very comprehensive and all the mod cons are there, with a separate utility room completing the list of desirable white goods. The house is very well presented and has everything you could need. Loads of pots and glassware 2 large fridges and dishwasher. The bedrooms all good sizes and bathrooms and decor done to a very high standard, and it is just a short walk from the town centre. There were 8 adults and 6 children in our party and was plenty of room for everyone. I would definitely recommend this house and hopefully will return in the future. The only complaint would be as it was Christmas there was lots of mess from the children and we tried to hoover up but the Hoover was rubbish. I would recommend a cordless one that you can just give a quick whip round with when needed. Don’t get me wrong I don’t go on holiday to hoover up but did feel a bit guilty leaving the mess.

Plenty of room for the 12 of us - 7 adults and 5 children. W had an extended family holiday with children and grandchildren from different parts of the UK meeting up with two sets of grandparents for half term. Scarborough offered a great deal for families :- the castle, the sea and sand, boat trips - especially the pirate ship, the museum, vintage fair, walks, Peasholme park, and much more and all either free or for a small cost. We were also exceptionally lucky with the weather - no rain - plenty of sun - positively balmy! All in all excellent. Please convey our good wishes to the owner, Mr. Dickinson.
