  • "So I wish I could include photos here as you would never stay in this cottage and unlikely to stay in a Sykes accommodation again."

You needed a 4x4 to travel up the drive my car bottomed out several times with the potholes. Outside lights not working couldn’t see a thing, slippery decking slope couldn’t see key safe ridiculous. First initial impressions when entering were very positive, nice space and well laid out.and a welcome food pack Then… handle on the kitchen cupboard fell off, I noticed the floor kick board was kicked in. So the en-suite bathroom, the toilet was dirty,, I mean black stains and residue on the toilet seat, there was mould all over shower tray, water would not drain and after inspection found full of hair, shower glass filthy, shower extractor fan seemed poor under inspection clogged with dust. Main bathroom, the bath panel was kicked in, skirting rotted with damp, chrome filthy. Bedroom 3 with two singles, we used a cot, but both beds had broken slats so fell through when sat on them to dress the baby. I have phots of all this. Asked owner for assistance with outside lighting as it was dangerous his comment still on my phone was, “we had the opposite our lights on all night”,not what I wanted to hear. He came round and asked if all good with the property, it was New Year’s Eve and rather than cause a scene as I was so angry and upset and not in the best of moods and my partner didn’t want me to have a confrontation with him so I said all Ok, I wish I had shown him round I’m sure he would not have believed his eyes. Contacted Sykes sent them the photos, thought there might be compensation, a written apology. What a joke……… i

  • "Sheriff Hutton is lovely and easy walk from the lodge."

The lodge itself is in a lovely quiet spot and open plan living is perfect for a group on 6, the only criticism I have is that it's only 2 years old and some of the facilities are already showing signs of over use, for example the sofa and the shower in the main bedroom. Hope that helps

  • "This holiday cabin was absolutely beautiful."

The location was great and was simple to get to. The owner made the whole process as hassle-free as could be. The little hamper that you get upon arrival was greatly appreciated. My friends and I are sad that it's now fully booked up until September. Will definitely be back again soon.

  • "Lovely clean lodge, with good quality funiture and equipment."

Great welcome pack including a bottle of wine which was much appreciated, as were some wonderful fresh raspberries delivered on arrival. The two bathrooms were ideal for us as a family of adults, lashings of lovely hot water, so all could shower and bath as required. Lots of magazines and games for use if the weather wasn't good. Very well eqipped with washing mashine, dishwasher, microwave, smart TV and Wi Fi, although it would have been useful to have some instructions on how to use the equipment, the cooker took me some time to work out how to use it as I have never used an electric cooker. We had a very comfortable stay, which was excellent value for the facilities on offer. The beds were a little too soft for us as we like a firm mattress, but that is a personal preference. We would happily book a stay here again.

  • "Fabulous holiday had by all."

Close to many attractions, we all had a great family holiday. Oak Lodge is a modern lodge catering for all our family needs. Kids loved playing with the swing ball outside. Only criticism would be the need to have bigger recycling bins.

  • "The owners had obviously thought of everything and more."

The welcome pack was really appreciated. Plenty of towels and dish towels. Only thing we can suggest going forward would be a larger outside recycling point and thats just a suggestion. Thanks again. Wardrop family.

  • "Whilst the lodge site is in an early stage of development, the area is quiet and peaceful being on the fringe of the small village of Sheriff Hutton."

The lodge itself is extremely spacious with a high level of specification and modern, stylish furnishings. The owners live nearby and are friendly and helpful plus a very generous welcome pack of provisions was provided.

Oak Lodge is a bespoke, timber-clad lodge close to the vibrant city of York and sweeping grassland of the North York Moors.

This beautiful accommodation has been finished to a high standard throughout and benefits from modern comforts such as full underfloor heating.

It is ideal for groups of friends or a family seeking a quiet escape to explore all the area has to offer.

Entering the lodge, you will find a superb open-plan living room with a fitted kitchen and sociable dining area, a delightful space to enjoy with your loved ones, whilst taking in the views of open countryside.

Create a delicious meal with the generous supply of utensils and modern kitchenware and gather around the table to chat about events from the day.

Three bedrooms await after a tiresome afternoon of walking through secluded dales and across magnificent coastline.

You have a master bedroom benefitting from an en-suite shower room, while the other double and twin share a family bathroom.

The quiet village of Sheriff Hutton is mentioned twice in the Doomsday Book.

In 1140, during the reign of King Stephen, a motte-and-bailey castle was built, the remains of which can be seen from Oak Lodge.

It is rather popular with walkers and cyclists who come to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside.
