  • "Great clean & tidy little cottage in a good location with easy access to the beach and other areas to visit."

The local bar / restaurant which I believe is all under the same umbrella as the cottages offered a very reasonably priced selection of good homecooked food & drinks with a lovely welcoming team. Nice welcome to the cottage with milk & chocolates thanks

The cottage was spacious with everything that you need. Even milk and chocolates in the fridge....a lovely touch It's in a lovely little village, very close to a very reasonably priced restaurant. A few minutes walk brings you to a lovely beach which is fantastic for the dogs. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

Very clean and comfy. Nice welcome with chocolates and milk. Ideal place to be able to go for walks and even drive to nearby places. Will definitely be booking again in the near future.

  • "A comfortable and very clean cottage."

We had everything we needed for our stay. Helped along by the milk and chocs (Thankyou). The heating comes on with no problems when you turn up the thermostat and the cottage warms up immediately. A pub/restaurant is within walking distance. Tasty food at a reasonable price. It would be helpful to have details of local walks but I suppose there's always walking apps for that. I would definitely recommend Drummer Cottage.

  • "A clean and comfortable stay."

Had to plan meals at home carefully as there are no oven trays or microwave bowls and the extractor fan was not working, but plenty of local pubs to eat, just had to drive out. Would recommend "Fox and Hounds" at Dalehouse and "Badger Hounds" at Hinderwell. We did not use the local "Kaskane" cafe/pub as on the Sunday they had a private function and as we passed we were told to F-Off we're closed - So gave that a miss.

  • "Very spacious for a cottage."

Clean comfortable and warm. Very quiet with a little front garden. The Kaskane bar restaurant on the end of the block did really nice meals. Best to book a table as it's popular. From the cottage we visited North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Saltburn and Guisborough. We would stay again in this dog friendly cottage

However the bunk bed mattress seemed very soft The kitchen was well provisioned but my partner who has arthritic hands could not turn off the taps We also had trouble with the front door lock but this was sorted promptly though we used the back door for the rest of our stay The television had lots of channels though the dvd player kept loosing sound. Perhaps it needs a cleaning disk Overall we had a good time and the cottage is well placed for visiting all the attractions in the area

  • "When we arrived to us first impressions are very important."

We were greeted with the sight of a well overgrown garden and a tree that was overhanging the walkway in to the property. When we entered the property the main living area was dark and cluttered and nothing like the photos we had seen on the website which we went off when we chose the property. The beds were very hard and lumpy and very uncomfortable to sleep on. Out of the living room window we had a great view of next doors washing which was overhanging our garden. Needless to say we will not be booking this property again. On return from our holiday we informed Sykes of our findings and they did not seem at all interested. This is the second time that we have used Sykes and the descriptions and photos of both the properties that we have used have been inaccurate.

  • "We enjoyed our stay, the cottage was nice and clean, warm and cosy, but the double bed was too firm for us, a new mattress or mattress topper is needed."

It is in an excellent position for visiting nearby Saltburn, Redcar, Guisborough and Whitby which are all within a reasonable drive. It is a short walk to the harbour with a surprisingly large sandy beach great for an evening stroll to sit and watch the sea. It is within a row of five other cottages with an attached restaurant/bar, which served good honest "pub grub" large portions at good prices. Very handy as there is no pub in the village. All in all a good stay.

Only drawback is the top bunk bed in the second bedroom is only suitable for a smaller child rather than a taller young adult. Great location for walkers and the property is well fenced so your dogs cannot escape unless they like jumping fences. Very friendly people and can be on site in 5mins if needed. There is an affordable restaurant within 100m who will deliver to the cottage at no extra cost and food arrives hot foil wrapped on plates. Opens 10am and Closes 8.30pm so no unwanted noise. Access from the car pea gravelled at the front and also tarmac parking at the rear. We would definitely come again.

It was dog friendly with an enclosed front garden and garden furniture. The Cottage was very quiet at night . Behind the cottage is a closed mining museum with steep steps bringing you up onto the hill behind. From the front door a walk through a park and along the beck takes you down to a beach, the beach to the left is one of the most beautiful empty beaches i have come across. Kaskane bar and cafe on the complex sells good food. Local folk are lovely and be prepared to chat when walking your dog in the morning. The Cottage is a great base for touring the North East with Staithes and Whitby close by .

All equipment is up to date, functional and clean, and if anything does go wrong the owner lives on site so able rectify issues immediately. The area is also great for seeing everything that this part of the country offers. We dined at the KASKANE restaurant every evening where you can expect great food and the very best of service all at very reasonable prices, also they are very dog friendly. A piece of advice here is book in as it is very busy sometimes. We will definitely return to any of these cottages as we know their high standards and hospitality.
