  • "What a lovely property to stay in over Christmas with our children and grandchildren."

We were contacted the day before our arrival saying the house would be ready a couple of hours early and we really appreciated the tasty welcome pack. There was plenty of room for everyone and the kitchen was great for cooking our Christmas dinner. Sleights is a lovely little village and Whitby is always a great place to visit. We enjoyed walking from the house and another time will take the train into Whitby.

  • "What a beautiful house."

Had everything we needed. Lots of space for everyone and 2 dogs. Furnishings and decor beautiful. Beds really comfy. Perfectly placed we could leave the car, train just across the road and bus just up the road. Was lovely watching the steam train go by. The best welcome pack ever :) Will certainly be back xx

  • "We had a lovely stay at Hazeldene."

The property was spacious, more than enough for 5 adults, a 2.5 year old, a baby and a chocolate Labrador. The property was we equipped overall, including an excellent set of sharp knives which my husband usually gripes about the lack of in many properties. The beds were lovely and comfortable. However we were a little taken aback by one tea towel and no oven gloves. This seemed totally out of character with everything else to do with the house. Maybe an oversight during the cleaning and preparation. My husband also likes to read and found the lighting a little dim for his liking - maybe a reading lamp would be a welcome addition. Minor issues overall that didn’t detract from our stay. The location was good for both the coast and North York Moors. We would have no hesitation in staying in the property again or recommending it to anyone. Many thanks to Sharon and Aladstair for allowing us to stay in their lovely home.

Great house for 4 couples. Fantastic kitchen although a pair of oven gloves would be useful ! Great situation for visiting Whitby and costal walks ! Our second time visiting this house.

Nice walks from the front door, excellent butcher and bakers in the village as well as a Spar supermarket. Well located for day trips to the moors, various beaches, Whitby Abbey and nice walks or cycle rides, including coastal path walks and Cinder track cycling (Whitby to Scarborough).

  • "Superb house finished to a very high standard."

Facilities excellent with plenty of space for our group of six. The proximity to the railway did not cause any issues as the trains are not very frequent. Ideal position for our week away.

  • "We had an enjoyable few days."

The house is delightfully set near to the station with steam trains passing regularly. Nice river walks, near the garden centre and playpark. There is a good selection of nearby shops, but they are at the top of a fairly steep hill. The accommodation was good - the addition of a second shower unit would be welcome.

  • "Hazeldene is a really beautiful property, the pictures probably don't do it justice to be honest!"

The kitchen is fabulously spacious for 8 people, I would suggest another or a much larger fridge though; we were a party of 6 and struggled to get all our food and drink into it. The decor is tasteful throughout, maybe a couple of occasional tables in the lounge with some lamps to give a slightly cosier atmosphere, and definitely a lamp in the dining room, it could be a little gloomy in that room. The beds and bed linen an extremely high standard, however if I were the owners I'd consider changing the double bed to a king or even super king size one. I would suggest the cleaners do some deep cleaning in the shower room ... the hand basin seemed to be blocked to be honest, and the shower drained very slowly, but these are all very tiny observations that didn't spoil our week's holiday in the slightest and I hope will be taken positively by the owner and not seen as complaints .... it was our first visit to North Yorkshire, an absolutely beautiful county, lovely people and Hazeldene is a very lovely property that I'd be more than happy to re-book.

The house is in a great location and had everything we needed and more. Each room is spacious and clean, the garden is a good sun trap and parking was always available on the roadside. The passing steam trains at the end of the road were an added bonus too. The location is ideal, with easy access to surrounding areas. The local pub is lovely too and walkable if you don't mind hills!

We felt very lucky to have found Hazeldene as, very quickly, we felt very much at home there. Hazeldene was wonderfully comfortable, well appointed and made an unexpectedly difficult situation a lot less stressful for us.
