  • "Advice to first time visitors."

Park at the top of the hill and walk down into the village apon arriving, before unloading, to get your bearings and find the property and choose where you might unload. As the single village access street bears right , you'll see a gallery in front of. Look left, that snicket leads to the footbridge. The property is the second set of stone steps to your left before reaching the bridge. Slide the large screen door to reveal the access doors to the property.

The hill to the car park is very steep and the steps to the property are quite steep. When you are not so good on your legs this is totally unsuitable. Plus it cost £42 pounds to park for the week. All this should be made clear when looking to book.

I visited on my own and this was perfect for me as a base for exploring the village and surrounding coast and countryside. Staithes is a beautiful village with stunning views; however visitors should bear in mind that there is limited parking in the village and the available car parks are accessed via a short steep climb out of Staithes. The Old Joiners Shop has been beautifully renovated to a high standard with all requirements catered for. I would highly recommend this accommodation.

It was smaller than we expected. though the use of space was very clever, we still had to pile up some things on the floor. The kitchen is well set out with plenty of utensils. Knives need sharpening and the cooker hood is noisy. Little space for food storage. There's a fold out dining table but we didn't use it since it would leave little space to move around. Taps in the kitchen and bathroom need tightening up. Bathroom is well set out, a good shower with plenty of hot water. The poorly fitting bathroom doors and open top means toilet privacy is limited. Anti-slip mat in shower has some black mould. The bed, a standard double, is comfortable. The outside space is great, though there's no morning or evening sun.

So well done Gary and Julie and your team on creating such a gem of a place, WITHIN such a small, or 'bijoux' as i describe it to my friends and family! I paericukarly luced tge lighting in the place - again, PURE GEINIUS, and the sliding internal door separating the living fr sleeping room, and the ickle door that swings either way for the bathroom! Loved the large sliding door outside too, that made the place look like the orginal work shop, wirh ggd iriginal joiners' axw fie ghd handle, but would have appreciated a bit of a clue vwhwn first arrived, having successfully gained access to the key in the keysafe, as to how ro gain access to the KEYHOLE!!! Luckily, the lovely, local helpful Bill, who owns the neighbouring store/workshop, saw me puzzling this conundrum fr across the other side of the beck, where he lives, and shouted across instruction! Only downpoint was THE PARKING, but ime sure you'll have had many comments/complaints re this in the past..... Should have been made clearer in the info re place about the charges, ans complexity of all the different car parking options and operatives in area, and suggest that some sort of permit couke be issued/bought for hollday people staying in the village, especially if they're there for a week ir more

I would stay here again. It was good to have a pint of milk, as the butchers had closed by mid-day. I have a couple of minor niggles. The complimentary wine didn't appeal - it was one with added fruit, not real wine. The hospitality tea and coffee had not been checked for a while - the coffee was old and stuck in one big lump. The teabags in a plastic bag saying 'ordinary tea' tasted terrible. There were no dishwasher tablets, and it wasn't worth us buying some for 2 nights. We had difficulty finding out how to switch on the bathroom towel rail. When I contacted Gary the week before our stay, to ask about un-loading, he said to look out for traffic wardens, but there is a designated unloading area on the street nearby, which he didn't mention. I also enquired if there were any extra pillows or a parasol for the terrace, but got no reply to these queries. Otherwise, a great stay in a lovely location.

The property certainly qualifies as an "Amazing Space", being small but having everything you need for a self-catered holiday. The clever use of every bit of space means there is ample storage without feeling cluttered. The location is ideal for exploring the coast in either direction, and Staithes itself is a lovely place to spend some down time. If there is any down side it is the climb up and down the steep hill to the car park, but then the lack of cars makes for a sense of peace and quiet (other than the seagulls). • "First impressions were very good and on the whole were fulfilled."

However, there were three disappointments. The main one is that the mattress on the bed is of poor quality and past it’s best. This was disappointing in a property portrayed as one of high quality. We found this mattress was most uncomfortable. The second was that the cooker hood fan doesn’t work. The light worked so the hood is powered but the fan function did not. Finally there was a lot of fluff and dust behind the sofa and table when we pulled this out to use. Of the three items we have mentioned the mattress would put us off returning to what is otherwise a delightful place to stay.

We were aware of the door being opened but no one had knocked etc. The door could not be opened as we had left the key in. It was before 9:30 am so we were well before the departure time. When challenged we were told that the female whom did not identify herself "just wanted to drop the washing off". We were in the process of getting ready so we had to retreat to the bedroom and allow the female (still did not explain whom she was) to drop Two large bags of bedding/wine/milk etc. This should not happen and should be left until paying customers have vacated the property. No apology was made and we were made to feel like an inconvenience and that we had done something wrong. My wife was very upset. THIS NEEDS ADDRESSING.

We went day trips to Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, and Scarborough which aren't that far away from Staithes. Went on steam train from Whitby to Pickering costing £62, loved it. About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
