  • "Had a lovely week staying at Post Box cottage."

The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The owners had provided everything you need for a self catering stay, plenty of pots and pans, crockery, utensils etc and more. The cottage was very cosy, comfortable beds, good shower and central heating. The cottage is situated in a good location, in the small village of Dalehouse, and you can easily walk into Staithes from the cottage. We didn't get to meet the owners tho they did say if we needed anything just to knock at their door which is next but one to the cottage, but as everything in the cottage was provided we didn't have any issues . I would highly recommend staying here and hope to be back in the future.

  • "Wonderful property in excellent location Beautiful cottage lovingly restored by very welcoming owners with a farm theme throughout."

The cottage was spotless, warm and cosy with everything needed for a very enjoyable stay, nice big bedroom with comfy bed. With coastal walks from the doorstep and fishing villages to explore the cottage is an absolute gem. Recommend the Fox & Hounds just 2mins away and The Fishermans Wife in Whitby. Thanks to Elaine, Gerard & Family for the welcome pack and for the opportunity to fully enjoy Post Box Cottage. Hopefully we will return. Best wishes Erna & David ,

  • "I would recommend an upgrade to the TV."

Found the sound pretty awful.very difficult to listen to. So maybe a smart TV would be better The WiFi was very good so it’s good enough for a smart TV. We missed the use of a dishwasher which didn’t really matter. There was a washing machine but know where to hang out washing. Both toilets could do with a toilet roll holder on wall. Also the double bed mattress we found very uncomfortable. Could feel the springs. Didn’t really get a full nights sleep all holiday. Apart from all the above we had an enjoyable stay at Postbox Cottage.

Away from the hustle and bustle of hectic life. The size was deceptive - there was plenty of space and ample equipment to suit the families needs. A warm welcome pack was an added surprise when we arrived. Our hosts were friendly and available if we needed them, which we didn't because the accommodation and service was faultless. This was a beautiful and relaxing property in an ideal location.

  • "Just arrived back home after a lovely relaxing week’s stay at Post Box Cottage."

Just what we were hoping for. Everything was perfect, lovely little welcome pack of essential grocery items, and luxury biscuits, awaiting our arrival at the cottage, nice touch from the owners. Cottage was very well equipped and comfortable to relax in. Kitchen was good size, included all items you may require to create meals, but good food outlets abound in nearby pubs etc.. Double bedroom was comfortable again, given the quietness of location we slept readily each night. Two single bedroom, although we dint require them, bathroom equipped with bath / over bath shower with retractable shower screen, again all adequate. Wifi 100% with no problems, mobile phone signal is non existent, but given the contours of the area, this was expected, as we have stayed in this area previously. Although not having a phone signal helped create the peace we sought. But if required a signal is obtainable 1/4 mile up the hill. The owners who reside virtually next door are on hand if you require anything, but with everything been perfect, this was never the case. Without doubt we shall return to stay Dalehouse in the future, big thanks to the owners for the perfect relaxing stay at Post Box Cottage. Kevin & Lorely.

Dalehouse Farm Holiday Cottages

Staithes 0.5 miles. These two, pretty, stone semi-detached cottages, are quietly tucked away in the small hamlet of Dalehouse, just a few minutes’ walk from the charming fishing village of Staithes. Set on the owners’ farm which has suckler cows and sheep, and where they breed Cleveland Bay horses, the cottages overlook fields and countryside and are in the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing holiday, with an abundance of walking tracks and cycling trails in the area. Originally the milking parlour, they have been converted to a good standard and provide comfortable accommodation with a traditional feel running through them. Both cottages have L-shaped open plan living areas, with leather sofas, electric stoves and family dining areas. The larger cottage offers the flexibility of a ground floor bedroom and wet room, enabling the less mobile to stay, while both have family bathrooms and first floor bedrooms with views of the lambs skipping around in the springtime. With both cottages having off road parking, guests can leave their cars safely behind and walk into historic Staithes, with its narrow cobbled streets and cottages that tumble down the bank towards the picturesque harbour, with a feeling of stepping back in time. Wander around the quaint shops, partake in tea and cakes, or enjoy fine fish and chips in one of the local inns. The Captain Cook's Museum is well worth a visit, or blow the cobwebs away with a bracing cliff top walk along the Cleveland Way long distance trail, that follows the coastline for miles. This special corner of North Yorkshire offers some superb countryside, with the North York Moors on your doorstep and delightful inland and coastal villages to explore, including Runswick Bay, Saltburn and Danby, with attractions such as the Danby Moors Exhibition Centre, the steam railway at Grosmont and the interesting mining museum at Skinningrove. Two well-placed cottages for wonderful family holidays.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
