  • "We were disappointed with the description of the property, primarily that there was an enclosed "garden" which turned out to be a very small patio with uneven steps as this was not good for us or our elderly greyhound."

Also, the step between the lounge and kitchen, although noted in the property details was much higher than expected; the owner did make an intermediate step out of wood when we mentioned this to him. Furthermore, there was an ongoing issue with the central heating, the owner told us that he knew about this and although he did respond immediately and provided oil heaters it wasn't ideal in October - we went to bed at 8pm on our first night just to get warm! On the plus side, the sofa and bed were extremely comfortable, the latter with thankfully a high tog duvet! Also, the cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We would like to thank Keith for the welcome pack which was much appreciated and his help whilst we were there but we did leave a day early due to both the cold and our dog becoming increasingly nervous of the patio steps after injuring her leg on one, by Thursday she wouldn't leave the cottage at all and we had to carry her out to the car :'(

Thanks for the positive comments in your review. I'm sorry you were disappointed in any way by your stay at Wayside Cottage. I have amended the property details on the listing to make it clearer that there are steps down to the front door and that these and the step into the kitchen may make the property unsuited to people with restricted mobility. In terms of clarity for potential guests reading your review, I think it only fair to point out that there had been a previous problem with the heating, which I believed had been resolved. The problem you experienced was not on your first night, but on your second night (Saturday). You chose not to contact me until the Sunday morning and I attended within 30 minutes, got the heating going again and left some back up electric heaters in case the problem recurred. Had you contacted me on the Saturday evening you would have received the same service and not had to spend the evening in the cold. I spoke to you on the Tuesday of your stay and was told all was well, the heating was working and you and the dog had been out for the day. The next I heard was on Thursday evening when you left me a voicemail saying you were going home a day early because the dog wasn't well and you mentioned the heating had gone off again but didn't say when. I'm truly sorry the cottage fell short of your expectations. Had I been aware of the problems earlier, I may have been able to resolve them to your satisfaction. An engineer has since visited and carried out a repair to the boiler and as I say I've amended the property description to prevent any further misunderstandings for future guests. Property Owner

  • "The cottage had been very tastefully converted to modern standards without losing any of its character and coziness."

The surrounding area is beautiful with bird-watching from the cottage window and lots to do and see within a few miles. We had some initial problems with the heating, but this was very quickly sorted by the owner, who was very friendly and easy to contact. Overall, we would not hesitate to recommend Sykes as a company and this very well equipped and comfortable cottage in particular.

Many thanks for your positive comments. I'm glad you had an enjoyable stay at Wayside Cottage. Property Owner

  • "Really enjoyed my stay."

It was just unfortunate that the views (or lack of them)was obscured by the bushes/trees of the neighbouring land, which cast a shadow into the cottage. Not enough to prevent me going back though.

Thanks for your positive review. Sorry you felt the views (or lack of them) were disappointing. The cottage is surrounded by woodland which I don't own so there isn't much I can do to improve that I'm afraid. Hopefully it didn't spoil your enjoyment too much. I look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner
