  • "We had a brilliant week at Wood Cottage."

It is perfectly located to explore North Yorkshire and the cottage is well equipped and beautifully decorated. The cleanliness was incredible and it was a cozy comfortable spot to have lazy evenings after busy days. Jo and Rob who own the cottage on their working farm were so friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble and they were great to allow our daughter to help feed the sheep and cats. Highly recommend Wood Cottage to everybody it is great!

  • "An amazing cottage with all required amenities and just so clean."

Easy to find and it is out in the countryside but not far away from townships of Stokesley or Helmsley. Plenty to do for a young children nearby or walkers for those interested in hill walking. For the children I recommend, Woldie lavender farm (lavender farm but has numerous activities for children, such as a maze that contains activities and much more), Bird of Prey Centre at Helmsley and Monk Park Farm. Cannot help but enjoy the holiday on this working farm.

Robert and Jo, the owners, were so welcoming and helpful, the cottage was comfortable and spotless, we could walk straight out onto the moorland from the back door. We'd be very happy to go back and would recommend the place unreservedly.

  • "Wood Cottage is spotlessly clean, well maintained, and very comfortable."

It has quality and charm. Robert and Jo have put a great deal of thought into the cottage and equipped it as they would want to find a holiday home if they were renting. Despite being very busy on a working sheep farm just coming the end of the lambing season they made us very welcome, without being in any way intrusive. We really appreciated the extra touches, a basket of Yorkshire treats and fresh flowers in every room. It was peaceful, quiet and the perfect place to relax. Unlike a previous reviewer we had no problems at all on local lanes, and nor did we have any problems whatsoever with the track through the farm leading to the cottage or the parking area. The track is well maintained and there's ample space in front of the cottage for parking. In all, one of the best holiday homes we've ever rented. Thank you both!

The cottage was beautiful with everything we needed and more, I love the little touches, things like that make your stay that little bit extra special. The beds where very comfortable, we are now buying new pillows and possibly a new mattress as we sleept so well. The owners were very welcoming and accomadating, taking time out of there busy day to show us around the farm and introduce our girls to the baby lambs.....big hit they've not stopped talking about Bingo and Wriggles. Thanks again for a wonderful stay, we hope to return again after such a lovely break.

  • "Lovely cottage, a great place to escape to if you want peace and quiet."

It would be fun to return to when the farm is at "work", sheep and lambs etc. Even watching the turkeys pottering about (being silly birds) over morning coffee was fun! Cottage was clean and comfortable, and the owner, Robert, was always on hand to help or just chat. One minor point. The mats on the twin bedroom floor were rather slippery, and could be a hazard without special care.

As ever, a very warm welcome from Robert, complemented by the vase of fresh flowers and welcome basket of goodies. Despite having a working farm to run, Robert never failed to prioritise our comfort and well-being and checking that all was well. The cottage has been a huge contributor to a lovely week’s holiday.

  • "What a fantastic view from property."

The main thing that hits you is the total silence apart from the odd animal noises. The road to and from the farm is narrow single track with passing places, we are from Lincolnshire so used to it, the track to the cottage is bumpy and I found that turning in farm fard and reversing through cottage gate was the best way. If your from less rural areas should slow down and enjoy views from lefthand side road when out traveling and be prepared to give way to farm vehicles. The walks are hilly, some are close by and some 5-15 minutes away they are rewarding though , the pubs are local 4 between 1/2 and 6 miles, a little pricey but good but rewarding resting and the real homebred locals are so friendly,

Enjoying spectacular views of the amazing North Yorkshire Moors is this picture-perfect stone cottage, resting on a working hill farm close to the village of Chop Gate, and within the North York Moors National Park.

Providing an idyllic retreat for four guests who want to be within natural surroundings and on the doorstep of their outdoor adventure, this homely and reverse-level dwelling is the perfect choice.

Wood Cottage, so named because it stands next to the gate leading to the wood, is a lovingly renovated 200 year old barn and makes delightful living accommodation.

Once here take in the extraordinary views of Raisdale and Bilsdale before stepping inside to discover the ground floor, home to two bedrooms, including a pretty twin room, and a lovely double bedroom, with king size bed, both with delightful bedding and furnishings to make you feel at home.

Also resting on this floor is the bright and spacious bathroom, where a bath with a shower over is housed for you to freshen up in, with a cloakroom next door too for added convenience.

Move upstairs to find the heart of the home within the first-floor open-plan living space, where the beautiful fabrics and furnishings have been carefully selected to keep the cottage light and pretty.

From here you can take in the fabulous views of the surrounding countryside or relax on the sofa in front of the stove-effect fire.

Ensure the group enjoys a hearty meal after a day of walking on the North York Moors by rustling up a fabulous dish in the amply-equipped kitchen, complete with an electric oven and hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, with a country-style dining table to sit around and tuck in.

Make use of your own patio space and garden outside with seating so you can rest and relax within this divine location, surrounded by magnificent scenery.

Enjoy views across the open countryside which includes a field barn, the only one in the area, and the stone-walled fields so typical of the farmland hereabouts.

A short walk in any direction provides a site for a picnic; making this the ideal base for a family holiday, romantic break, get together with friends or just the chance to unwind and get away from it all; or put on your walking boots and begin discovering the expansive North Yorkshire Moors in all their heather-clad beauty, where many routes coincide, as well as the 110-mile long Cleveland Way running close by.

Enjoy fabulous countryside leading through woodland, fields, hills and dales over towards the Wainstones and beyond.

Chop Gate, 1/2 a mile from Wood Cottage, offers a pub that serves local food.

For guests willing to travel a little further, the village of Great Broughton is 4 miles away and offers several local pubs with restaurants and just 7 miles away is the market town of Stokesley with a traditional high street, a weekly market and monthly farmers market.

There is also an excellent leisure centre with swimming pool and gym, and a 9-hole golf course, driving range and crazy golf.

Travelling from Wood Cottage in the opposite direction brings you to the picturesque market town of Helmsley in the Ryedale area.

You can stroll around the market and grab coffee or lunch in one of the many cafes, or hotels and even try out the local ice-cream and handmade chocolates or visit the stick man who made Nanny McPhee's magic walking stick.

Discover the delightful village of Great Ayton, or head over to Whitby where a host of seaside attractions await as well as a beautiful beach, with the fabulous Whitby Abbey overlooking the town and reached via the challenging 199 Steps, perhaps travelling here by steam train from Pickering, 45 minutes drive away from Wood Cottage, with the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway.
