  • "A Really lovely property with a lovely heated indoor pool ."

The owners were lovely and invited us to the lighting of the beacon on the village celebrating the platinum jubilee which was very enjoyable.

  • "We had a lovely stay in these beautiful barn conversions."

The pool was large, beautifully warm and amazing for us to swim in during a cold, wet, windy half term. The games room was fun too. Bedrooms spacious and comfortable, though memory foam mattresses I think, which aren't my cup of tea, though I know many like them. The kitchen was perfect, as good as at home, the welcome milk, eggs, wine and chocolate were a lovely touch, and fast WiFi and streaming TV also went down well with kids. Only a short drive from the coast and in the beautiful rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds, it really felt peaceful.

  • "The cottage was very comfortable, clean and well appointed."

We enjoyed the sitting room/kitchen arrangement and used it for our big family gathering. Although the weather was poor, the pool and games room kept all ages busy. We all wished we could have stayed longer.

Weather amazing, accommodation was superb, swimming pool was the ultimate plus, the cleaner was the nicest person, wifi excellent, everything just ticked every box. We normally go to centre parcs but I think they have been blown out now

  • "So about a 10 days before our holiday I received information by email about how to access the property."

It also contained information about our designated private swimming times (due to Covid) in the pool - 12.15 - 2.15pm. It also contained a telephone number which I rang. I got through to Anthony at Yorkshire Coastal Cottages. I told him that one of the main reasons for booking Cartwheels was so that we could swim, and that giving us a slot in the middle of the day would be pretty useless to us as we, like most holiday-makers, would be out all day on most days. I asked if he could enquire whether we could maybe change our time to something more sensible e.g. 3 - 5pm, or 4-6pm, or even 6-8pm. He said he would get in touch with the people and ring me back. I heard nothing. About 2 days before we set off, I telephoned again. I hang on for over 30 minutes just to get through. Then I spoke to a young lady and said I was still waiting to hear back from Anthony. She said words to the effect of: "Oh, we only ring you back when we have heard from the owners so if we haven't been able to get in touch with them we wouldn't ring you." So my whole working life has been spent in front-facing jobs where I was expected to meet and exceed expectations (you asked the question!). I don't call this good customer service. I was just left wondering if anyone had bothered to make a call. Someone could at least have rung me back to say they could not raise the owners. If I am paying roughly £300 per day for a self-catering set-up, I have high expectations as I think this rate is at least towards the top end of the market - and let's remember what I am disappointed with is that no-one had the courtesy to ring me back AT ALL. The swimming times were not changed, we never heard anything, we never saw anyone to ask at the property. There were 3 spotlights not working in the open plan upper level of the barn, the large curved tap for the bath leaked fast and caused much water to go all over the floor before there was sufficient water drawn, and the lever to work the plug in the sink was jammed solid. These things should have been checked. I left a note for the housekeeper of these things as we left to inform her. In addition, the flies were TERRIBLE in our bedroom. I know that's not their fault whereas the previous points are maintenance issues, but maybe they should provide a second fly 'zapper' for downstairs??

  • "We were happy with the cottage and liked the layout."

The swimming pool was great; the only disappointment was not being able to use the games room. We thought we should have some refund because of that.

  • "The property is lovely and just as advertised - except one important detail which really affected our stay."

The advertising states clearly that Cartwheels has 3 bedrooms - which comprise one double and two twins. This is not the case. Cartwheels has two doubles and one twin. Neither of the doubles are zip and links so they have to be configured as double beds. This created a real problem for us since the two rooms we thought were twins were intended for our four teenage children. As you can imagine, two teenage boys, aged 14 and 15yrs did not want to share a double bed so we had to get a blow up bed to accommodate one of them. The staff on site were quick to provide us with bed linen and duvet so we could make up the blow up bed. But for this reason the property did not meet expectations. The problem is easily solved by changing the advertising on the website to make clear there are two double bedrooms and one twin room. Aside from this problem the property is excellent. A god size and well equipped. The pool and games rooms are great and well used by us, as was the tennis court. Everything was provided that we needed and the drove to the great beach at Hunmanby Gap (much better than Filey beach in our view) is just 20 minutes away. We really enjoyed our stay at East gate farm.
