  • "The overall stay was lovely."

Andrew and Emily (who live on site) were very welcoming and helpful, nothing was ever a problem. The cleaner Jane also was also very nice and helpful. Some small gripes were, the upstairs floorboards were very noisy when moving about especially for the guests below. A small TV in the bedrooms would have been nice. The games room could do with some updating. On a positive note the kitchen was fully equipped and we didn’t need to bring anything apart from food. Hair dryers were provided, plenty of towels , hand wash and toilet rolls. The welcome box of chocolates, a bottle of wine and eggs was a lovely touch. Tea, coffee and sugar was also provided. The beds were very comfortable. The swimming pool was a big part of why we chose the cottage and facility didn’t disappoint. The kids really enjoyed it! Regrettably on a negative note, on one occasion whilst we were using the pool, shortly after entering we were told (for the first time) that swimming lessons occur on a Tuesday afternoon and that we would need to get out. This was the first time meeting the owner. She did apologise but it was very awkward. We were very disappointed (as anyone would be) but especially because one of our family members who has a terminal illness (unbeknown to the owner) to our surprise had gotten into the pool that day very shortly before and for the first and only time during our stay, so to be told to get out was a real disappointment to him and naturally to all of us! We were polite despite our feelings (even though our disappointment would have been clear) however that was the only time the owner spoke to us although we saw her a few times afterwards and we were the only guests on site. Wasn’t a deal breaker but did leave a bitter taste in the mouth. A notice on the door would have negated this.

Hello Thank you for your feedback. Just to update you, Emily is also an owner, and I think you met her on several occasions! The pool situation was a shame, but there is a notice in the file with all the information, stating that on Tuesday afternoon the pool is used by local children for a couple of hours. We also keep the pool open longer on a Tuesday night to compensate! The games room is really just a place where children can 'hang out', its more like a 'den' for them, and we feel if we updated it, it would become more for adults than children.... that is not our intention. Thank you for your comments. Property Owner

Thank you. Far too much to do in the area, including a fabulous meal at Farriers, for a week so a return one day is inevitable. An oddity though. I really don’t understand why I paid an additional fee for electric car charging when a ‘pay to use’ facility was on site?

  • "Fabulous stay at the Old Barn!"

The property and ground were absolutely stunning. Going through the electric gates, driving the stone path and walking through the house, the views from the full length windows were amazing! We were a family of 7 and made full use of the pool, games room and tennis court. The house was fully equipped and we were welcomed with complimentary cleaning materials, coffee, tea, sugar, eggs a box of chocolates and wine. Will return to this wonderful accommodation suitable to sleep 8.

  • "A lovely property with great facilities, we especially enjoyed the tennis court and pool."

Only down sides were as our stay was during a heatwave it was so hot we had to have all doors and windows open to try and cool it down. As a result, we were inundated with flies as it is on a working farm. Also, the floor boards upstairs are extremely noisy and if you are sleeping in one of the downstairs rooms it is very load when anybody moves upstairs. Otherwise, a lovely stay and a lovely location.

Clean, modern, quality fixtures and fittings. Best size pool we’ve had in a holiday let in this country . Welcome pack on arrival. This is a working farm and there were some flies but fly paper and spray coped with this very slight annoyance. Would definitely stay here again.

The comfort, cleanliness and the whole setting are fantastic. The old barn could be suitable for wheelchairs if there were ramps to go over the two steps outside. We really enjoyed our stay and wish to thank the housekeeper for her perfect management of the whole place.

We really enjoyed the pool which is a good length for an indoor pool. Cleaning products left for our use in the kitchen and bathrooms were very much appreciated and we especially enjoyed the Prosecco and chocolates. We will definitely be returning.

  • "The old barn has everything a family could ever need or want."

Beautiful location it’s rural and peaceful, though as a working farm, there will be some noise from sheep and tractors, but that didn’t bother us at all. The swimming pool was a gift for the teenagers (15 to 18 y.o.). They loved it and made a pleasant change not seeing them head down looking at their mobile phones. 3 things to note, internet connection is going to be weak at times with poor signal/reception so factor that in, the location is rural so no popping to the shop for a loaf of bread or milk (though it was a lovely surprise to receive welcome eggs, milk, box of chocs and Prosecco). Lastly, as a farm, there are more flies that you would see normally which was a pity as we had good weather and it made me think twice about opening windows and french doors. Overall though, would I go back? 100% yes. Beautiful old barn we had a relaxing week reading, playing board games or spending the evening just talking to one another. During the day off to places such as Whitby, York and Filey etc. lovely!

From the moment we walked in we were amazed. The size of the rooms were excellent, the cleanliness of the property was amazing (other places I have needed to clean before we could upack), a well thought out food hamper was left by the owners which was greatly received, the kitchen utensils and crockery were immense (everything you can thing of was available) and comfy furniture and beds. The swimming pool was divided up into sessions per property because of social distancing which worked really well. There were communal times available if you wished to go then too. We will definitely return as we so loved our stay with you.

The children enjoyed the swimming pool. Overall a great place to stay. The only downside was the flies. Spent a lot of time swatting flies despite the anti-fly device that was working in the main room.

The accommodation is spacious and well-equipped and we had a very enjoyable stay. There was rather a lot of flies in one of the downstairs bedrooms but we managed to control them more with keeping the door shut and using a fly swatter. Perhaps something needs to be placed outside to detract them; my daughter has some sort of planter which does the trick.

  • "We stayed at The Old Barn after being let down by the collapse of Monarch."

The group consisted of two families totalling 6 people and were looking for all the things we would have had whilst on our original booked holiday - the feeling of luxury and, very importantly, a pool. This holiday had it all. It was superb. On arriving we were greeted with a welcome basket of different items of local groceries. The Old Barn was extremely clean and tidy and had everything we would need; if were intending to cook....NOT!...we were on our hols. We still talk now of how lucky we were to find this as a last minute holiday and are intending to return. All cottages are beautiful and all different. Would be a fabulous place for a large family get together. A great holiday!!!
