"Had a tremendous week in Black Cat cottage."
It was very peaceful and we found some lovely walks, that were dog friendly. Rosemary Topping is well worth a walk up for the views but be adventurous and don’t just go straight up/straight down.
Will definitely return for another week of unwinding.

"Black Cat Cottage was a fantastic property and was simply beautiful."
We all fully enjoyed our stay and the owner could not have been more accommodating. The property also forms the perfect base for exploring, not to mention our dog loved the under floor heating, and seems quite affronted that we do not have it at home, We will be going back.

"We like North Yorkshire and love walking."
We have 2 working dogs that come with us and you have to plan accommodation that can cater for wet dogs returning. This cottage fitted that bill. You have moors, beaches and woods to choose from as well as flat or hilly. Plenty of places to choose from to eat/rest at. Our hosts were perfect and clearly want you to have everything you require. Indeed on chatting we were given contact details of locals we would have an interest in speaking to. The buildings are beautifully converted and there is nothing cheap about the fixtures or fittings here! We are smallholders and this farm has cattle and horses and the farm is also beautifully kept as are the grounds. Hard work going on here but this makes it very relaxing for guests. We knew the Bilsdale transmitter was down after a fire and went prepared. (You can see the transmitter from the property) We were therefore able to go prepared and use the wifi to watch tv programmes on a tablet and use the mobiles via wifi to talk/send messages. The photographs do not do the interior justice. The sitting room and kitchen diner are vast areas with everything you would need and the work to convert has been extremely well done. Feels more like a home than a holiday let. We loved it.
So happy you enjoyed your stay - Thankyou Property Owner

Set in an old barn the property has a lot of character and is furnished with style. Helmsley is a beautiful village with nice cafes, restaurants and a small supermarket and it is only 10 miles away. The cottage is in a great location to explore Yorkshire. I would highly recommend Black Cat Cottage and look forward to going back soon.

It was lovely sitting there enjoying a drink in the evening. Very comfortable bed. Within easy reach of the moors and the coast allowing you to explore this beautiful area. Easy access to the cottage from the main road, the owners were friendly but not intrusive. Would highly recommend it, our dog loved it he really sulked when it was time to come home.

"Had a great week, cottage in a peaceful location and well situated for visiting Helmsley which is a lovely market town with gorgeous shops and eateries."
The Buck Inn is only 2.5 miles away and we ate there several times as food really good. Cottage very comfortable, clean and there is a nice area to sit outside in the sunshine. Our little dog was safe in the enclosed garden. We would love to return. **One suggestion is that some kind of shelf inside shower would be good as had to put toiletries on the floor.

"A stunning property."
High standard of facilities, immaculate and very comfortable. Private patio teaming with seasonal bird activity. Set in the most amazing location with easy access to the Cleveland Way. Be prepared to drive to your two nearest market towns, Stokesley and Helmsley but worth it. The walk from Helmsley to Rievaulx is a must. Our hosts were brilliant.

"The cottage is tastefully equipped and extremely comfortable and in a private position."
There is easy access to local walks just across the field, although a car is needed if you wish to access shops or petrol station etc. There is a pub serving nice food just a short distance away, which is dog friendly. We had a lovely couple of days staying here, together with our two dogs. We would definitely return.

"My family and I have just returned from an amazing time spent at this cottage, it’s an absolutely beautiful converted barn with lots of original features and a twist of modern and traditional."
It was warm and comfy with underfloor heating and a wood burner which created a lovely ambience to the living area. We did bring along our 2 family dogs who were flat out most of the time from their treks in the fields. Friendly owners and well kept farm with a range of cattle and horses as well as Piddles their lovely pet dog.
Location is between Stokesley and Helmsley approx 10 miles both way. Nearest supermarket we used was Stokesley Co-op. Would recommend nearby Lordstone a picnic/walking/views area which has a lovely stand alone cafe/restaurant/shop all dog friendly.
We will certainly be back loved it, thank you Black Cat Cottage.

"This cottage is just beautiful."
Everything was just as pictured and very clean. Veronica wasn’t in when we arrived on Saturday but she came on Monday evening to greet us and then came again the morning we were leaving to say goodbye. The area itself is great, lots of places just to park up and go on walks, which our dogs loved exploring. We went to cod beck resiviour which was a nice little walk and also followed them Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey trail which was really good too. Would highly recommend the Buck Inn in Chop Gate who are dog friendly and the Rusty Bike cafe in Swainby who are dog friendly too. There wasn’t anything in walking distance from the cottage so always needed a car ride down the main road but there was Helmsley turning right out of the farm and Stokesley turning left and plenty of other places to go for food/takeaways etc. All in all, we had a great week and would love to go back again.

"The directions to the property were to say the least inadequate."
We spent some time driving up and down the road before we could spot the recessed gateway and entrance to the farm. It would help other visitors if a mileage was given from Helmsley so that visitors knew approximately when to start looking for the entrance.
Lovely Holiday and Location, we would recommend The Buck at Chop Gate for meals.

"We had a lovely week in Black cat cottage."
The owners were a lovely welcoming couple who were about if you needed them. The cottage was in a peaceful and beautiful spot on their working farm. The interior was very well maintained and had been very tastefully designed. It was equipped with everything you needed in the kitchen with plenty of cutlery, glasses and a dinner service. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and plenty of space to hang clothes in a good sized wardrobe. There was even a good selection of books to read. In all a lovely enjoyable week. If we go back to this area we would certainly go back to this lovely cottage.

The log burner was ineffective and we had 2 days max supply of logs. Nearest place to buy more was 8-10 miles away which isn't great in winter!
On a positive note the cottage was really nicely renovated with a nice comfy bed, the owners were welcoming and set in a lovely part of the moors. (Sadly weather was misty on our visit). Overall a great holiday and good base for walking etc.
