Really well presented cottage, very clean and a homely feel. Provided with everything you’d need for a week of self catering. Washing machine proved to be very handy on this occasion. If you like exploring or visiting small towns villages then this place really does put you in the middle of it. Lots to see and do locally.

  • "This is a lovely quiet place to spend a week or short break."

Owl cottage sits alongside two other barn conversions as a small holiday complex set within the grounds of a beautiful old farm. Each cottage has its own parking and outdoor space and plenty of room for everyone. Walks are on the doorstep and Helmsley is a 20 minute drive away and has everything you need. Owners are very friendly and helpful and leave you to get on with it. There are horses, cows and ducks around and an easy place to walk the dog. Highly recommended

  • "Lovely property, nice and modern with hints of the old stables that it used to be."

There was everything that you would need for a comfortable stay, the owner Veronica came to say "hello" and helped us out with a couple of issues, it was nice that she was on site in case of any issues. I would say this property is definitely big enough for two people and one dog ! There are walks from the door but generally we travelled to do walks we wanted. The property is literally in the middle of nowhere but is only a 10/15 minute car ride away from lovely pubs, we found "Jet Miners" and "The Buck Inn" really nice (both allow dogs but you need to ring to book a table) numbers for both are in the welcome info provided in the cottage...all in all a really nice, comfortable stay. We would not hesitate to recommend this property and would definitely not have a problem returning.

  • "The cottage was nice but smaller than photos suggested."

There was limited storage for food apart from the refrigerator. No welcome pack ie milk etc. We had always had this in previous cottages. The bathroom was lovely, but no place to put toiletries whilst in shower. cooker and microwave lovely but one needed a degree in science to operate even with the instruction books. simpler models would have been better..These are not complaints just criticisms.

  • "Owl Cottage is perfect!"

Booked for a week as a relaxing, get away from it all retreat and had the most wonderful time. The cottage itself is exactly as described and set in the most stunning location. Everything was very clean, tidy, comfortable and it is such a beautiful conversion - I'm sure the other two cottages are also fabulous for larger parties. I was the single occupant but it would also be perfect for a couple plus dog, and there are outdoor wash facilities for furry (muddy) occupants. I wasn't blessed with great weather during my stay but it really didn't matter! Lucky for me I did get a clear night so got to see the stars in this dark sky area, but going to sleep every night to the sound of owls, cattle and the beck bubbling away next to the cottage was bliss. The owners are both lovely and very personable - not far away if you need them (I had no issues whatsoever so didn't) but very discreet and this contributed to the relaxing feel of my holiday. There is lots to do locally - walking literally from the door and on the surrounding moorland and forestry, plenty of bike trails (or fabulous variable gradient roads) and bridlepaths (can highly recommend Bilsdale Riding Centre, around 10 mins drive away in Hawnsby - went there twice and had lots of fun hacking over the moors and in the forest on lovely horses), historic places to visit and independent shops in pretty Helmsley and Stokesley. I didn't eat out myself but there are plenty of places about if you're driving around the countryside (anyone who takes pleasure in driving interesting routes would love the driving in this area). Am writing this review and slightly wondering if I've shot myself in the foot as the place will be all booked up for when I want to go back!

  • "We drove down from Scotland to the cottage which was our first visit to Yorkshire we found the location of the cottage with no problems the directions were clear and easy to follow on arrival we were met by the owner and shown round to the property she gave us a small tour of the cottage and left us to it ."

Once settled in we went exploring the surrounding area then back for a rest after our journey down, this area is ideal for walkers, cyclists and would highly recommend this area for a holiday, we clocked up a few miles while here but it is worth it, the only thing I would suggest is if there was a welcome pack IE tea milk , small loaf of bread and eggs just to get you started as the nearest shop is 12 miles away you don't want to go looking for food after a long trip. The owner is very nice indeed and helpful although we hardly seen her from when we arrived till we leaving , all in all a GREAT HOLIDAY WE will be back.
