High Ewecote Cottages
Helmsley 10 miles. These outstanding stone barn conversions lie amidst stunning scenery in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Set in a quiet, rural location, on the owner's working farm with racehorses and cattle, they provide a wonderful tranquil retreat from which to recharge the batteries, but are within easy access to the pretty market towns of Helmsley, Stokesley and Thirsk. The cottages have been sympathetically converted to provide award-winning accommodation of the highest quality, with them being awarded the National Parks Authority Design Award for 2016, and Witches Cottage has been given the award of Best Barn Conversion. Great care has been taken to offer exceptionally comfortable and welcoming holiday homes, with limestone flagged floors, exposed stone walls and aged timber beams. Elegantly furnished with fine attention to detail, they exude quality but remain homely and inviting. Every care has been taken to ensure a memorable holiday, including Smart TVs, underfloor heating in two of the cottages and first class furnishings. Outside, Owl Cottage and Witches Cottage share a communal gravelled garden, with the River Seph running along the margin and beautiful views of the North York Moors foothills; an idyllic spot to sit and relax with a glass of wine, whilst Black Cat Cottage has private use of a patio garden. There is an interconnecting door linking two of the cottages, Black Cat Cottage and Owl Cottage which can be opened on request to make a larger property that will accommodate up to six guests. Guests can also have access to outdoor kennel facilities if required. The surrounding area is a walker’s paradise, with footpaths and trails leading through the wonderful scenery and both the Coast to Coast and the Cleveland Way long distance walks nearby. There are historical and cultural opportunities to savour, in the guise of Castle Howard, Rievaulx, Byland and Fountains Abbeys, or take a day further afield to discover the Yorkshire Coast, spanning from Saltburn to Bridlington. Within easy reach of the triangle comprising of York, Harrogate and Ripon, these properties offer an ideal base for a varied holiday.

Lying in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley is a prestigious market town with a spacious market square surrounded by houses, hotels and shops. The area is important historically - Helmsley has its own 12th century castle and English Heritage’s Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard are close by. Helmsley also boasts an arts centre showing films and plays, and an outdoor swimming pool, which is open during the summer. There is excellent walking on the doorstep - indeed the Cleveland Way starts in Helmsley - and the surrounding North York Moors with their hidden dales and villages are pretty in all seasons. York is less than an hour's drive south, as is Scarborough, Whitby and the east coast, whilst Pickering and the beginning of the famous steam railway line (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) are a little over 20 minutes' drive.
