  • "Absolutely fabulous accommodation set in a beautiful landscape."

It was so peaceful, it was actually very hard to leave after our week there. We all felt so relaxed. The owners were lovely too and always there if we needed anything. We will definitely be going back.

Thankyou Karen and very much looking forward to seeing you again Property Owner

  • "Over all cleanliness poor, on arrival I was disappointed, I understand self catering as I have a holiday cottage that I let, however when you open a jar which had previously stored tea bags to find only 1 in a dirty pot and not even to be left a pint of milk I feel overall poor, towels clearly dried outside which is good for the environment but could be fluffed up, dirty cotton buds on floor from previous guests, no hand soap in bathrooms, a basic requirement I think."

we had to hunt round for any information, ie how to turn heating down or off, which we only found on 2nd night.

Thank you for your feedback I pride myself on all guests having a great stay and therefore explain to guests on arrival if they require anything at all or if anything goes wrong during their stay, to please contact me straight away as I live nect door ( my contact number is also in the property ). It is a shame that you did not contact me regarding the teabag and cotton budthat were found as I would have dealt with this straight away. It is a self catering cottage and since covid I have no longer provide milk etc on arrival. There is an information booklet in the drawer in the kitchen, but I will leave out moving forward. Thank you again for your comments Property Owner

  • "Fabulous stay at Witches cottage, was really cozy and warm despite how cold the weather was."

This cottage has been designed and decorated to an extremely high standard with absolutely everything you would need for a self catering stay. Owners were very helpful if you needed anything and plenty of information on local pubs, restaurants, shopping etc for you to read on arrival. Lovely walks from the doorstep if you don't want to drive anywhere. This is a working farm but that only adds to the charm of the place. Highly recommend a stay here. Tim and Wendy Jarred

We have used Sykes many times, and never before has there not been a pint of milk ! Rather surprising, as everything else about the cottage is fantastic.

We have not put anything into the cottages since covid advice - we will again hopefully! Property Owner

Little bit awkward to find if travelling north from Helmsley as the farm name is only visible if you are travelling south towards Helmsley. After driving around the area for 20 minutes, had to pull over and phone the owner for information. The owner is very pleasant and helpful and the cottage is stunning. A few minor niggles /suggestions for improvement which we left as feedback on departure. Overall a wonderful stay and we wouldn't hesitate to return in the near future.

  • "As I am a James Herriot and TV "The Yorkshire Vet" fan, Witches Cottage was ideally situated for my pilgrimage."

The accommodation was a beautifully converted barn, very comfortable and warm. I don't think I've ever slept in such a comfortable bed! I did have a slight privacy issue with the bathrooms as the windows were clear glass and occasionally guests at the other cottage passed by. We had to either keep the blinds permanently closed which made the room very dark, or remember to close them each time; sometimes a problem with a weak bladder! Also, for those who live on their phones, the signal is non existent and the wifi also dropped out from time to time. Fortunately this was a welcome break for us. On the whole though a very pleasant stay.

Thank you for your feedback. The owner is pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time at Witches Cottage and that you found the beds to be comfortable. With reference to your lack of wifi signal the owner has advised that the property is located beneath the main Billside mast and this is something that guests do not usually have any problems with. Perhaps it was an issue with your phone rather than wifi signal or a possible carrier signal? If you had advised the owner during your stay she would have been happy to look into this for you. With the property all being on ground level there is a blind in the bathrooms for privacy, the decision to not have frosted glass in it is a personal preference by the owner , apologies if this caused any inconvenience. Welcoming host and a very well equipped cottage, peaceful but scenic surroundings. The underfloor heating and stove burner make for a very cosy atmosphere. We only stayed for 4 nights but crammed a lot into our stay, visiting Helmsley, Rievaulx Abbey, Eden Camp, Thornton Le Dale, Thirsk, Osmotherley, Codbeck Reservoir and Helmsley Castle. Would recommend visiting them all. Would definitely stay again and have already recommended it to a number of friends.

  • "We drove up a lovely drive and turned the corner to a beautiful gravelled garden with tables and chairs all set out."

When I walked into the cottage I was stopped in my tracks because it was just so outstandingly beautiful. There was a comfortable area for the lounge with an amazing kitchen at the other end. The tiled floor was heated underneath and so welcoming. Everything you needed was provided to an extremely high standard. The light hanging in the kitchen with the glasses and crystals was just so amazing and even more so when switched on. We then went into the bedrooms, the first was a good size with a comfortable double bed and plenty of cupboard space. Next to this room was a lovely bathroom with a brilliant walk in shower. Everything was just so clean and sparkly. We then went into the bedroom at the other end of the cottage, and WOW!!!! What an absolutely beautiful room and ensuite bathroom. (I chose this one straight away) Again everywhere was so clean and fresh and everything we needed was provided, The bathroom was so clean and even toilet roll provided. (This may seem a strange thing to mention but some places do not provide these things) The bed was so luxurious and comfortable giving us a week of very good sleeps.. What a beautiful, clean welcoming cottage in such an amazing place. We went for a local walk up to the mast which gave some lovely views of the moors and valley. We went to Pickering and on the North York Railway which is such a great day out and I would recommend it to everyone. Locally again we went to the Revieux Abbey which was stunning and they provide and audio guide which gives you all the history and interesting facts. Another local day out was to Great Ayton and we walked up to Captain Cooks memorial. That is such a lovey walk and not too strenuous and at the top you have an amazing panoramic view of the moors and right across to the sea. We could even see the mast that was near the cottage. Another fabulous day out was to Whitby. There are 2 routes you can take and we took the longer route through Pickering and across the North York Moors which gives stunning views. Whitby is a beautiful seaside town with so much to do there. Walking up to the Abbey and a trip out to sea on the replica of Captain Cooks ship made the day even more perfect. The boat trip was only £3.50 per person so a definite bargain. Shopping locally, I would recommend Stonely because there is a lovely butchers and bakery next to each other in the high street with delicious local treats. But what made all these days even more special was to come home to the beautiful witches cottage. Our dog Gruber was made so welcome with plenty of dog bowls provided and he also made a friend with the resident dog Piddler. I would recommend this cottage to everyone, it is just so amazing and in such a beautiful part of our countryside. I told my husband that I didn't want to go home and it was a sad moment the day we had to pack up to leave. Thank you for making our weeks holiday just so perfect
