"We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely area."
The cottage is on a working farm which enhanced our enjoyment, and the owners, as well as being very welcoming, were as helpful as they could be when we needed to call an ambulance. We all agreed that we would aim to make a return visit here and see even more of the surrounding area.
-
"A brilliant holiday cottage, thank you so much."
The cottage had everything we needed and was so spacious and beautifully presented.

"We had a lovely stay at Mistal Cottage."
It's spacious, clean and comfortable, and the owner could not have been more friendly or helpful. It's also very well placed to visit the local area - we enjoyed trips to Robin Hood's Bay, Falling Foss, Helmsley Castle and Sutton Bank. Would definitely recommend.

"Excellent location, Very modeern barn conversion with every facility you would need- a complete home from home."
The owners were very pleasant and helpful. Remember it is siutated on a working farm.
-
"A very spacious and comfortable well equipped cottage."
The underfloor heating was excellent making the cottage very cosy. One of the nicest cottages we have stayed in. The location was very convenient for the A19 giving easy access to York and lots of other places. We would certainly recommend this cottage and plan to stay here again.
-
"This was our second stay at Mistal Cottage and it was just as lovely, clean and welcoming as ever."
We love the area as there is so much to see and do and Mistal Cottage is the ideal base for this.

"We really enjoyed staying at Mistal cottage."
Very spacious, comfortable and extremely well equipped. It was easy to find and situated very close to areas of outstanding natural beauty and many places of interest both natural and historic. We did speak with the host but were surprised that we didn’t meet the hostess until we knocked on their door to say goodbye. Previous visitors had remarked negatively about the ‘farmyard’ smell which was quite strong at times as the farm has a herd of cattle. However, if you choose this accommodation, this is totally acceptable and posed no problem for us at all. We would recommend Mistal Cottage.

"The cottage was beautiful and very clean."
Beds comfortable. It had everything we needed! The owner was friendly and welcoming. Fresh flowers were a lovely touch! We enjoyed our stay.
-
"Lovely spacious cottage in an ideal location for visiting Yorkshire."
The cottage is well equipped, spotlessly clean and the beds are super comfy. The hosts were helpful and welcoming, we really appreciated the fresh flowers and milk on our arrival. Would highly recommend staying here.
-
"A lovely cottage well appointed and spotlessly clean with pleasant and helpful hosts."
For those wanted to dine in the property would benefit from some new frying pans as the ones provided were very old.
-
"Very clean property and well maintained, very well equipped - has everything you are likely to need (i."
E kitchen equipment, toiletries), very comfortable stay, hope to stay at this property again in future

Jonathon and Katie very welcoming. Would definitely stay there again.

"Great location for visiting all surrounding areas"
-
"We were amazed at the size of the property."
Ideal location for walking and visiting tourist attractions.
-
"Lovely spacious holiday home."
The owners were very nice people. We had an horrendous journey there on the A1 and they kindly sorted our shopping delivery for us. My wife is disabled and it suited us, although if you are permanently in a wheelchair the doors would not be wide enough but it is NOT stated wheelchair accessible. The setting is ideal for touring the North Yorkshire moors and other places. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay helped that we had blue skies and sunshine.

"Fantastic cottage on a working farm."
Highly recommended.
-
"Mistal Cottage proved to be an excellent choice for a quiet week away from it all."
Spotlessly clean, comfortable and equipped to a high standard. Although the cottage is in a quiet location there is lots to do in the area with York and the coast being within easy driving distance.
-
"Mistral Cottage is delightful."
Due to Covid restrictions, we didn't see much of the owners but they live next door and emailed us beforehand to let us know to contact them if we needed anything. The cottage is very well appointed. The two bedrooms both have en suite facilities and were kitted out to a high specification. There is a titled floor throughout (take your slippers) but it meant the cottage was thoroughly clean when we arrived. The cottage is on a working farm and so you really feel as though you're in the middle of the countryside - fabulous. The village of Husthwaite is a short walk away and there is plenty of walking and lots to do in the surrounding area. Highly recommended.
-
"The solid tiled floor throughout the cottage I felt was more suited to the South of France than north Yorkshire, as it was very cold to walk on without shoes."
We would have preferred the TV to have been more on eye level with the seating, than so high on the wall.
-
"Lovely comfortable cottage."
Great location for touring around the area. Close to York if you fancy a day trip. Cottage was well equipped if you just want to settle down and chill out.
-
"Great location and friendly owners, the cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed and more!"
Loved it x

"We had a lovely week at Mistal Cottage."
Our young children enjoyed seeing the farm animals (especially the meet and greet with one of the chickens!) and learning about the farm and we all enjoyed exploring the local area by foot and by bike. The owners are lovely and extremely helpful. The cottage was just what we needed for our week in North Yorks.

"We enjoyed our stay at Mistal Cottage."
Very quiet and peaceful. A very welcome cake, fresh milk and flowers were waiting for us on arrival. Everything about the cottage was first class. Perfectly situated for exploring the Yorkshire Moors and Dales and surrounding towns and cities. Would definitely recommend.

"Property itself was very comfortable and clean inside and the owners were very friendly and welcoming and that part did meet expectations."
What did not meet expectations is that the garden is shared with the holiday property and the owners however, the entrance doors to both properties lead in from the back garden, therefore there is a lot of coming and going by the owners. The owners have two primary school aged children and two dogs. The garden being shared means that when the children are at home they are playing in the garden along with the two dogs, therefore there is very only privacy inside the property. The garden is enclosed by walls on each side, so even if you could sit out in private, you cannot see any fields. The two properties are joined and the owners use a bedroom over the master bedroom of the holiday property. From approximately 06.30am, onwards each morning, you can hear the children moving around and playing in the room above. As per the details the property is on a working farm. What is not made clear is that the cows are all enclosed in sheds and not let out into the fields that are directly behind the sheds. They are just there being fattened up for the meat market. You see the cows looking out and then the lorry arriving and them being herded on to it to go off to the abattoir, which for some can be very disturbing and upsetting. As the cows are directly enclosed behind the property, there is a continuous stench of cow manure lingering in the air too. This would not be so bad if the cows were allowed out into the fields. If the above would bother you, this is not the property for you. In relation to the above, i would not choose this property again.

"Owners were extremely welcoming and hospitality."
Made our stay very enjoyable.
-
"The cottage was in excellent condition, the beds were very comfortable with good sized bedrooms, very nice shower room and als the other bathroom which had a shower as well."
Good sized living space. Lovely warm welcome from the owners, also there was a nice lemon cake, milk, flowers teabags, coffee etc there on our arrival. I would definitely recommend this cottage as it was ideal for myself, my wife and our little four year old grandaughter as a lovely cottage to stay in and a good base for exploring areas of Yorkshire which we had not been to before.
-
"Nice and comfortable cottage in an excellent location to access Yorkshire Moors."
If you love real countryside and farmers this is the place to be. The cottage has a very nice kitchen with an excellent cooker and American style fridge. Although the cottage has two spacious high standard bathrooms, the rain showers were quite disappointing due to the low water pressure. The bedrooms are spacious and extremely quiet and dark during the night. Although the beds are very comfortable, the synthetic bed sheets made sleeping unfortunately a rather sticky experience even at the cool nights when we stayed at the cottage.

"Lovely location within driving distance of lots attractons."
Cottage was was equipped with everything required and more .Would recommend and would love to return.
-
"The owner is very welcoming, kind, friendly and helpful and Mistral Cottage is lovely: well furnished, very comfortable, superb master bedroom with exceedingly comfortable mattress for anyone with back issues, beautiful bed linen and the whole house was extremely clean."
It is a great place to relax. It was just what we were looking for and we are glad we chose it!
-
"Beautiful property with everything you could possibly need."
-
"The cake and flowers when we arrived were a lovely touch after a tiring journey from Norfolk."
Warm welcome from Mrs Dennis who was very helpful when we asked throughout our stay. Very good location for visits etc. around North Yorkshire. Plenty of good information supplied on places to visit, walks, restaurants, pubs etc. Facilities were excellent and in line with those informed in the website which was very important when making our decision to book. The only minor problem was that the sofas were a little bit narrow for a 6ft+ frame - quite important at our age with the usual aches and pains. All in all though we are so glad we booked with you and chose the Mistal Cottage. Richard and Jehan Sexton

"Excellent accommodation and very welcoming owner."
A fantastic place to stay. Our first experience of staying on a working farm. The accommodation was close enough to get sight of daily operations but had its own entrance onto the road so you weren’t having to fight with farm vehicles. A well presented property with everything you required for a great stay. A comprehensive briefing pack, local OS map available and plenty of information on what to visit and see locally. A host of magazines and books catered for the curious mind.

"The accommodation was first class and the people were really friendly and helpful"
-
"This was a lovely cottage."
Finished to a very high standard and with everything you could possibly want or need, right down to tea and milk on arrival. The owners are lovely and very helpful. The cottage is actually bigger than it looks in the photos and it feels very spacious. The only downside was the outside smell. This is a working farm and you expect some smells and noise, but this was quite bad and we couldn't sit outside in the lovely little seating area. No problem inside though. It's in a really great location for touring the North York Moors and Dales as it's just off the A19 which connects you to most places. There's a great selection of pubs in the local area to eat out at, all of which are listed in a very useful info binder that the owners have put together. Overall, a really lovely place to say, shame about the outside smell.
-
"While the information does state this is a working farm and attached to owners house following points: Very close to owners house with shared outside area and little privacy."
Waste bins directly ouside accomodation surrounded by flies which entered property whenever door opened. Worse was the awful stench from cattle and surroundings.Warm weather and unable to sit outside or open windows or door because of stench and flies. While we spent a lot of time out of property when returning the stench pervaded everything and made it impossible to enjoy the setting.Stayed on a neighbouring farm previously and had privacy and No smell ! so was really disappointed by this experience. XXX OWNER RESPONSE XXX We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay as we pride ourselves on giving every guest a great holiday and always have fabulous feedback. The website does state that the property is on a working ‘livestock’ farm as not all farms have livestock and that there is a shared lawned garden and private patio with furniture as shown in the photographs. We did have exceptionally hot weather during your stay and we are sorry that you had issues with flies during this time and we would certainly have moved the bins for you had we been aware.

"Lovely cottage."
Delightful owners. Great location. Plenty to do and see in the area.
-
"Lovely cottage."
A delicious freshly made sponge cake was waiting for us on arrival with fresh flowers and a warm welcome from the owners. The cottage was in a good location to access the North York Moors, Castle Howard and York. It was very comfortable and was well equiped.

"We really enjoyed our stay at mistal cottage."
The cake and tea was a lovely suprise when we arrived. The owners were very friendly but not intrusive. The accommodation was immaculate and had every we needed with young children. We would defiantly go back.

Owners were very accommodating without being intrusive. The welcome cake was delicious and very much appreciated. Would definitely visit again.
-
"Fab location."
Very welcoming. Owners very nice, made lovely cake for us. Really enjoyed staying on the farm. Very high standard, garden was beautiful and quite private.
-
"Mistal Cottage is a home from home especially for us as a farming family?"
! The accommodation is beautifully decorated and has everything you could need to self cater whilst on holiday. The photos don't do it justice! It is well located to visit York,Scarborough and the North Yorkshire Moors. The Carlton Inn is a must for Sunday lunch! I would recommend this property to anyone. Kate and her family were very welcoming. We had a wonderful week here?! I would like to think we'll be back again one day.
-
"My husband uses a power chair and an off-road scooter."
He was able to access this property in his power-chair which was great! There was also an under-cover area where we could store the scooter and the trailer which saved me having to cover the scooter every evening. There was a power socket in this area where I could charge his scooter too. The cottage was lovely and the owners welcoming. They even left a cake for us.
-
"Excellent property in a convenient location for visiting a wide range of attractions in this part of North Yorkshire."
The property is very spacious and is furnished to a very high standard. The owners made us very welcome and the large sponge cake was delicious. We would certainly visit this property again.
-
"Spacious rooms."
Would suit a 4 member family. The owners and their 2 young children are delightful friendly people. Location is great for visiting York, Harrogate and lots more. The National Trust properties are all good and child friendly.
-
"I knew from the description given on your website that the cottage was rather smart, but my friend and I were bowled over by the position, the size, and the quality of the place, which enabled us to have a very comfortable week."
On our arrival we were greeted with fresh flowers on the table, a tea/coffee kit (with milk in the fridge) and a delicious homemade sponge, which, after a grim journey, was very welcome. The owners of the cottage were extremely friendly and very helpful; nothing seemed too much trouble, and they were interested to know our opinions in case we thought improvements could be made. Always a good sign I think.

"Great property, spacious and comfortable and spotlessly clean."
Great location.
-
"Really nice well equipped cottage in a beautiful rural setting."
Owners really friendly. Great base for visiting lots of local towns and national trust houses. Would book again as so much to see and do.
-
"Very nice , clean comfortable cottage and because of no steps and wet-room would be ideally suited to be advertised for the ' less mobile'."
-
"Warm, comfortable well resourced place."
Very near lots of walking as well as cities and other places to visit.
-
"Lovely cottage."
-
"We enjoyed our stay at Mistral cottage."
It is a working livestock farm so you need to accept animal noises (sometimes early in the morning) and and farmyard odours!! It is suitably situated for exploring the North York Moors and also the eastern end of the Dales.
